For long distance touring, remember the Sun Tour VGT Lux?

While it’s not a road bike, it would be interesting to hear a little about the original brazed Schwinn “Paramountain” sent around to bike shops for feedback and then the 1987 Black, Red and Yellow frames with rollercam mounts. As I know these USA built. If any one knows of a story or link please advise.

New subscriber here, restoring vintage Chicago Schwinns at present. I appreciate your channel and videos. This whole Waterford trip was eye-opening for me, and you are a great informant. Thanks, John!

I spent a lot of time in Oscar Wastyn's shop on Milwaukee Ave. in the 1980's; purchased a few bikes, lots of accessories - he had some great stuff that was vintage back then! He offered to build up and sell me a gorgeous Eisentraut for very fair price, but I passed due to a lot of other expenses at the time, and I've always regretted it. Great people. He would show me all the cool bikes in the basement. Really enjoyed hanging out there, and hearing all the history. Ordered a new Waterford 1200 in 1994, and never looked back - such a special bike. About to build up my second Waterford, a new RS-22.

That's awesome. I called on Wastyn's shop on Milwaukee Ave from 1989 till ? I worked for Wisconsin cycle. He once told me that it was Illegal to put Shimano on a racing bike. LOL. Id love to have an Eisentraut! Im always looking for one in great shape! I am lacking a Waterford bike in my collection. However I do have three Waterford paramounts.. Do they count?

@@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage I'd say they count. They should anyway.

I love this stuff. Also, Jean-Claude Killy and Billy Kidd. I remember those guys and days. Schwinn is a classic himself as well.

My 1975 Paramount p15 was all campy except the rear derailleur. I guess campy derailleurs could not handle the big gear.

The Nuovo Record derailleur that most came with can only handle a 27 tooth FW. The campy equivalent of that day didn't shift that well. Thats why they came with the Shimano Rer der.

Not just back-in-the-day. Not that long ago I was at a "raduno" put on by the people of GIOS-Torino at their showroom in Volpiano, Italy. It was raining and I noted a bike with fenders, leaning over to (son of founder) Aldo Gios to say "Well, someone is smart, they have fenders on their GIOS." He replied that he didn't think they were very smart, noting their GIOS had Shimano components on it! Some things never change!

I have seen several Schwinn bikes on Facebook marketplace but they look totally mistreated to the point I just say heck no, on the other hand your bikes look beautiful.

I used to joke and say that everyone did a drumroll on the top tubes with steak knives before they sell thier bikes on line. LOL
