  • Just a rant about my frustrations with troubleshooting my power window problem.
Car is '02 Mitsubishi Galant 2.4L ES, year ago fog/power mirrors stopped working randomly. Next year my driver door lock stopped working. Eventually the driver window stopped but the other windows were fine. Then everything quit, passenger accessories randomly would work seldom.
Tons of information about replacing window switches and motors/regulators and voltage drop test ect. None of that helped or concluded anything. This master window switch is near impossible to find, no local auto store sells it. It must come second hand to the best of my knowledge. I discovered poking around at the junkyard the Mitsubishi Lancer/Endeavor use the same switch. Wasn't the switch that caused my problems but it's nice to pass this information along. My problem was the entire driver door wiring harness and this video describes my symptoms leading up to failure and many people telling me it's my window motor or switch... glad I didn't jump the gun. Note: Voltage drop test couldn't be completed. For some reason when I activated the switch, instead of a voltage drop I got a voltage increase. I was at a loss for words and no one could explain why, everyone had a voltage too low problem. I advise to always fact check common problems and symptoms as I could have wasted a lot more time and money tossing new parts in only to have the same problem. This car has been so hard to find parts for, go ahead and buy parts while you can if you have the money, just stock up from the junkyards.

That's crazy... Everything works but my passenger power window and I changed the regulator and motor and it still wouldn't go up and down .. I traced it down to thinking it was a ground on the passenger window switch...

But yeah I had the same problem it's been driving me crazy... So you think I'll be better off just changing the whole thing rather than finding the short?

Most likely a broken wire inside that boot that connects between the door and the frame. Those wires get flexed back and forth every time you open or close the door. So 1 or more is most likely fatigued.
