Games I played and beat: Nier Replicant, Scarlet Nexus Games I tried and dropped after a while: Soul Hackers 2, Monster Hunter Stories 2 Games I started but need to continue: Lost Odyssey Games I plan on giving a try at some point: Tokyo Mirage Sessions Good list!
With soul hackers the original one they really they really messed up their chance to remastered it as an introduction to the soul hacker series because you just can't for so many decades later make so hackers too and expect people to buy it do you have to have done is just make a game just called Soul hackers smt Soul hackers play people will actually be interested in buying it and the story behind social I mean so hackers and how very old school it was in terms of the setting sure there will be some people who would appreciate the times before social media no hackers the first one delves into that
I was a real big fan of Tokyo Mirage Sessions, didn't know what to expect going into it, but knowing it was made by Atlas, gave it a shot. Really loved it!
I really liked Tokyo Mirage Sessions. It's far from perfect but its a good jrpg to tide you through waiting for those AAA jrpgs. Give it a try, you won't regret it. 😁
I just bought Scarlett Nexus on sale for my PS4. Harvestella is high up on my list of games to buy. And I really want to give baten kaitos a shot. I finished trails in the sky SC in 2023 so hoping to finish up sky this year
@@slam-zanyBy modern consoles you guys mean Xbox Series S and Series X right? Because a lot of people fail to realize Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon are first party IPs. Do y'all think the box said Microsoft Game Studios in the bottom right corner for fun?
Putting Trails in the Sky on here feels like a bit of a joke, BUT I think it's damn near flawless and the other games in the series don't live up to it at all. So... fair play lol MH Stories 2 would also absolutely be on my list. I've always thought everything about MH was up my alley EXCEPT the action gameplay and the fact that murdering even big scary fantasy animals makes me a little sad lol. So you can imagine this was right for me. I also love Scarlet Nexus. Incredibly satisfying to play and I love the whole aesthetic. The character and enemy designs are sooo good. My choices would probably be Monster Hunter Stories 2, Cross Tails, Fuga Melodies of Steel, Grandia/Grandia II, Legend of Mana, Marenian Tavern Story, Cosmic Star Heroine/Cthulhu Saves the World/Breath of Death VII/excited to play This Way Madness Lies!!!, and the Rhapsody games. My maybes but I think they're a little too hyped in my corner of the internet: Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, Skies of Arcadia, Ys Origin, Scarlet Nexus, Radiant Historia. Underrated in a "people say they're bad but I really liked them" way: Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, Eiyuden Chronicle Rising, Shining Resonance Refrain.
I agree.. crazy a platinum games game is "underrated" but in the case of Astral it is hard to say it is not. The latest Bayonetta entry also super underrated.. these are all more action titles tho.
Radiata Stories (PS2) - Slow opening probaly made a lot of people drop it. It's a great game where you can recruit almost anyone in town. Such cool story that should be played by everyone. Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology (3DS) - Hard to find. One of the best jrpgs in the 3DS. It's loved by 3DS owners, but not much talked outside the 3DS circle. Gravity Rush 1 & 2 (Vita & PS4) - Both games are freaking amazing. I don't know how these games are not popular. They are more action with gravity power. Good histoy, good characters, power is fun to play, decent boss battles. 10/10. Blue Reflection 1 & 2 (PS4) - Looks like a cute shoujo game, but the battle is quite good. It`s exterior looks like a niche game, but there`s a lot of fun outside it`s cute nature. I started it thinking it would be all cute girls, drama and fan service. It was fun. Infinite Undiscovery (Xbox360) - My fav JRPG in the Xbox360 beside Lost Odyssey. It plays similar to Star Ocean, but better. It`s the only game I can remember right now where you can make 3 party to farm and watch them hunting in the field (And help them if necessary). Probaly on my top 10 games that deserve a remaster or remake. Resonance Of Fate (Xbox360 & PS4) - I`ll not lie. I droped this gem 3 times in the xbox360 era because I was destroyed in the battle system. It`s a A+ game with history, art and battle. World map is a little annoying and they NEVER made the fucking sequel (Game has a loose ending for a sequel). Such a good game.
Ha, amazing list, I either finished all of them or have them in my backlog already. Scarlet Nexus was amazing, the only thing I disliked was the amount of grind for the gifts to see DLC content.
Monster Hunter Stories 2 was awesome, expanded on the first and just had everything I wanted out of a Pokemon like game. Lost Odyssey is one of my favorite Xbox 360 games, I bought one because of LO and Blue Dragon. Pleasantly surprised we got more like Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean 4. Even Spectral Force 3.
I can agree with almost all the games here. The Trails series are my big favorite, and I am really glad that when I started playing the first Cold Steel game I noticed in the comments on the site I purchased it (GOG) that it was part of a long series. I was only a half hour or so in and decided to drop it to play the very first game - Trails In The Sky FC. It was the best decision I have ever made in gaming. Soul Hackers 2 is a good game. I had a LOT of fun with it. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #fe Encore is a game I could only play on a emulator (don't worry, I really bought the game). But I have to say it runs perfectly. Still - I would buy it again if a PC version would ever be released. Harvestella I also one of my favorites. I really love that game. The same goes for Scarlet Nexus. Great game and fun to play too. I still have to play Nier Replicant (although I certainly will soon), so I cannot comment ton that one (yet). Sadly, as a PC only gamer, I could not play all of the games on your recommended list, but for those I can play I fully agree with you.
all good games but I expected something more in the lines of redemption reapers for example.. less well known stuff let's say. But I agree Soul hackers 2 is underrated despite being an Atlus game. Tokyo Mirage I personally think has a rating that reflects the game - ok game, ok rating ;) Anyway talking underrated Jrpgs that came out in 2023 let me suggest Redemption Reapers, Xuan Yuan 7, Sword and Fairy .. also Soulstice - a great action rpg in the style of jrpgs... Labyrinth of Yomi and Labyrinth of Zangetzu if u like dungeon crawlers... lots of solid jrpgs went under the radar in 2023 in my op.
No, soul hackers is hated because it isnt soul hackers. This game is bland and to get the true ending is a damn grind. It isnt a bad game just a disappointing game.
Loved Scarlet Nexus. Truly one of my favourites that I platinumed and replayed multiple times. Though, as interesting of a concept it is, I almost feel like yuito's story hurt the game overall. From what I have seen a ton of people choose to play as him and don't really play a second time as Kasane. And there's just such a vast gap in quality in the storytelling between Yuito's and Kasane's story. The pacing, the themes, the drama, the reveals, everything about the story is just worse on yuito's side. Which makes it a real shame that that's the only storyline a lot of people experience.
DQM The Dark Prince was the biggest disaster ever. I was so looking forward to it, but it was an unfinished, badly programmed, awfully written garbage... The only good point was the monster taming/fusing system, but aside from that, story, graphics, endless loading screens, poor design choices, characters, and the VA partially too (not even Kirito could save it) was just not good and after investing like 50h (of which 50% was backtracking and loading screens and another 25% unnecessary grinding) and playing it through, it was definitely not woth the full 60-70$ price.
it is not unique but it's not a clone of rune factory either... it has an interesting story in the end if u get a chance try it. Not a masterpiece but a good game for sure. underrated maybe not tho... lots of people loved it.
I'll have to say I was disappointed with Nier: Replicant. I loved Automata but the original just aged poorly. the story was still outstanding, so was the soundtrack BUT! the gameplay was fucking atrocious. And I don't just mean the barebones combat, I'm talking about doing the same exact thing 5 times over to get to the true end with so much pointless running back and forth and clearing the same exact dungeons the same exact way over and over and over and over and over again. It was awful. I wished I had just watched a story summary like I did with Drakengard I + II instead. And Scarlet Nexus was also kinda crap. The characters were super boring, the combat was great when everything worked but when it didn't, it was just a slog. And then the story was just stupid and so unnecessarily longwinded where half the story could've been cut if 2 people just spoke more than 2 sentences with each other. The level design was also boring and all the side content was atrociously boring as well. As for trails in the sky - it has become my all-time favourite JRPG series and many of the individual games are in my top 10 all time and I've been playing jrpgs since the early SNES era.
Soul Hackers 2 is such a gem, fun main character, great stories and party cast. Sure the dungeons are an absolute slog especially matrix ones but still very worthy game any JRPG fan should play. TMS caught me off guard, I did not expect it to be that good. Fleshed out characters that do persona social link mechanic far better than actual persona. All its dungeons are very unique with fun puzzles to do advancing through them. Superb music of course too. Havent played Scarlet Nexus, my JRPG backlog is massive. Its by the tales devs so im interested.
Games I played and beat: Nier Replicant, Scarlet Nexus
Games I tried and dropped after a while: Soul Hackers 2, Monster Hunter Stories 2
Games I started but need to continue: Lost Odyssey
Games I plan on giving a try at some point: Tokyo Mirage Sessions
Good list!
Soul Hackers 2 is so incredibly underrated. It’s so damn good and more people should play it. Glad to see it here.
I tried it but I just can't get into it unfortunately. I hated the dungeons.
@jeremychong8541 yeah, I wanted to love it...but it's just a really BAD game unfortunately.
I had a great time with Soul Hackers 2, loved the vibe/ setting.❤
With soul hackers the original one they really they really messed up their chance to remastered it as an introduction to the soul hacker series because you just can't for so many decades later make so hackers too and expect people to buy it do you have to have done is just make a game just called Soul hackers smt Soul hackers play people will actually be interested in buying it and the story behind social I mean so hackers and how very old school it was in terms of the setting sure there will be some people who would appreciate the times before social media no hackers the first one delves into that
I’m a huge fan of the original Trails. Also, love seeing Nier Replicant on here or anywhere for that matter haha. Great list!
Nier Replicant is a really great game. And I absolutely agree the original Trails is slept on.
if u like Falcom's games I think Tokyo Xanadu could be considered underrated, try it if u get a chance u may like it
I was a real big fan of Tokyo Mirage Sessions, didn't know what to expect going into it, but knowing it was made by Atlas, gave it a shot. Really loved it!
Me too, best game I played in 2023. I had so much fun.
Great list. These are some great ones. I haven’t played Soul Hackers 2 I’ll have to check it out.
I really liked Tokyo Mirage Sessions. It's far from perfect but its a good jrpg to tide you through waiting for those AAA jrpgs. Give it a try, you won't regret it. 😁
I played most and agreed with you that they are good, except that I have never heard of Baten Kaitos! Might give it a go l!
I just bought Scarlett Nexus on sale for my PS4. Harvestella is high up on my list of games to buy. And I really want to give baten kaitos a shot. I finished trails in the sky SC in 2023 so hoping to finish up sky this year
It's a shame Lost Odyssey hasn't come out on modern consoles or even PC
I agree! That one really needs a remaster on modern consoles.
@@slam-zanyBy modern consoles you guys mean Xbox Series S and Series X right? Because a lot of people fail to realize Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon are first party IPs.

I feel like astral chain on nintendo switch should have been on this list. It's such a great game that is not talked about nearly enough.
I agree.. crazy a platinum games game is "underrated" but in the case of Astral it is hard to say it is not. The latest Bayonetta entry also super underrated.. these are all more action titles tho.
Resonance of Fate and The Last Remnant are both highly underrated.
Harvestella is a little gem. It's far from perfect. But I enjoyed it very much. Soundtrack is superb.
I am getting into the trails series and loving it, atm i am in sky 3rd chapter, in wich trails are u atm?
I’m about to start the Cold Steel games!

I'm working my way through Lost Odyssey now!
Ha, amazing list, I either finished all of them or have them in my backlog already. Scarlet Nexus was amazing, the only thing I disliked was the amount of grind for the gifts to see DLC content.
Yea I agree about the grind with Scarlet Nexus. The Game was really amazing though!
What DLC does Scarlet Nexus have?
Monster Hunter Stories 2 was awesome, expanded on the first and just had everything I wanted out of a Pokemon like game.

i want DQM the dark prince on pc :-(
Same. The performance has some issues here and there on Switch. Nothing game breaking but it would be nice to have on PC for sure.
I think we may have a very different understanding of the word underrated. These are all pretty dang popular.
I loved Monster Hunter stories 2!
all good games but I expected something more in the lines of redemption reapers for example.. less well known stuff let's say. But I agree Soul hackers 2 is underrated despite being an Atlus game. More precisely it's not ,,real'' Devil Summoner game

Im waiting for trails 1-3 to come to switch. Then i will start. I bought the rest alrdy lol. I do have the first game on pc. But ill wait for it.
Scarlet Nexus combat is so fire

I would so love to play Trails in the Sky but I don't have a PC. Just sucks. Love all the other games.
my dude, Lost odyssey is already available for the recent consoles. Just grab a Xbox Series and be happy
harvestella is almost a clone of rune factory so its not really unique
it is not unique but it's not a clone of rune factory either... it has an interesting story in the end if u get a chance try it. Not a masterpiece but a good game for sure. underrated maybe not tho... lots of people loved it.

Underrated?? kkkkkkkkkkkkkk
TMS felt a wasted potential section because of the censorship and how falsely marketed.
