Overall, I think it is worth it. You are blessed to be able to assist and take care of a total of seven (7) family members. Myself having lived in 6 different countries for a total of over 18 years. The one that was my best liking was the Philippines When I was station at Clark Air Base, Philippines. Even back then, what I would do was find stores that had prices labeled before I bought anything there. Of course some would call it discrimination for them to raise prices on foreigners. Even though, it is correct, it happens in America too. So, the blessings of being a American and able to afford even a little mark up is understandable. My future plans is to retire there too in the future in about 4 years, since I am getting close to retirement age soon . From US American Air Force Security Police Military Veteran who lived at Clark Air Base, Philippines. GOD bless the Philippines and GOD bless our country America to being able to afford to live in places like the Philippines.
I'm married to a Philipina as well & we live in CA. We are also planning to move to my wife's country when we retire. She already has property & we will be building a retirement home. I have about 17 or 18 years of working left. I have been there before & the cost is so much cheaper than the US. With social security, 401k, & cash saved we should be in good shape to enjoy our golden years.
No problem with me. I have a great wife & a wonderful 20 year relationship. I trust her fully & she will be inheriting everything I own when I pass away anyway.
I live in the Philippines on Camiguin Island, lots cheaper here than where you live but that's the case in the province. I also live more of a Filipino lifestyle. I live in the Philippines 6 months a year and travel the other 6 months.
You are so right about being taken advantage just for the color of your skin. I’m a Filipino native but grew up in America. When I come to visit, my cousins tell me not to speak too much because of being fluent in English. This way I don’t get taken advantage of. They do all the negotiating for me.
LoL! Lol! “People take advantage of me because of the color of my skin.” Did a lightbulb just turned on? Wow! Imagine being beaten, put in prison or murdered because of the color of your skin. And you think your skin color is a problem? ..something you had nothing to do with creating. I wish God would take responsibility for this discrimination and hatred because of skin color since He’s the one who did this to us.
One time I was on the phone at a local market in a small town speaking english and prices for commodities are higher till I spoke in a local dialect then prices deflated hahaha same with a taxi in my hometown, the driver must have thought we are foreigners so we took a long route which didn't me as the ac was good and it was really hot outside, our bill came to 400 peso and I gave the driver 70, I said if you don't like it then bring a cop here which he didn't because back then it was the going rate, now the meter starts at 40, back then it starts at 20, I dont mind giving a tip when drivers are honest or helpful.
Once house and cars are paid off and debt-free, you cannot beat the lifestyle in US especially if retiree planned and saved for retirement. If retiree is only relying on SS, then Philippines is a good option. Quality meats, groceries, clothes, shoes, cars, appliances, meds, household goods and electronics are much cheaper in US if you know where and when to buy. It is also more comfortable and convenient to retire in US. Govt transactions are fast and can be done online. Cars can be bought online, everything can be ordered online.
@@paengguin9381 with $2000 a month, you can get someone to drive you, cook for you, clean your house, do your laundry, all you have to do is eat and sleep. Can you do that in the US, if so, how much does it cost?
@@eric95209 I hope you are also paying their SS, PhilHealth and other benefits which are required by law in PI now. I value my privacy and do not want people in my house daily that I also have to feed and increase my utility costs. Did you calculate those costs? I did all the calculations line by line and added all the costs, I actually save more money in US than PI. Also, be careful who you trust in PI. I have a gardener in US that comes weekly. I can hire the sane 2 maids 2-3 times monthly in US and I can order cooked meals for delivery, eat out or cook it myself. I would rather drive my own cars which I enjoy doing and maintaining myself. Gardener and maids do not have to live with me which by the way is a waste of money adding benefits, utilities and food costs. I can just hire them when I need them and they have been helping me for years. I can wash my clothes in my high tech washer and dryer. Inactivity will kill you quickly, I prefer to move around so I do not get clots in my body and die of a stroke or a heart attack. High tech and beautiful appliances and cars in US make life so easy. I get stressed and paranoid every time I go to PI due to starving people that would do anything to get money. You have to be street smart and be a bit paranoid so you or your family do not become a victim. It is OK to take vacations in PI for 3-4 weeks but not to live there permanently. Non-stop lockdowns, masks and face shields make PI not fun. China will invade Taiwan soon and PI will be in the middle of WW3.
When I lived in Metro Manila, I didn't want to live in the center of Manila. We found nice areas in Bacoor, Cavite. There are many subdivisions like Rosewood that are quiet, not congested, safe and relatively inexpensive.
the walking ATM thingy.. theres a quick way on countering that ill give you a tip, learn tagalog and speak it at least the basics, once theyve recognized you speaking the dialect, youll see the difference.. and about the traffic the only way to get above it is to accept it.. organized chaos i believe is the term hehehe.. goodluck and stay safe
What's the difference? You'll be a walking ATM that's speaks Tagalog, cibuano, papaciente, or any other indigenous dialect. Now look, he's taking care of the whole clan instead of enjoying his retirement 😂🤣
First time viewer here, great presentation. I've got to admit I also look for price tags/makers of course. It's too easy for them to just make up a price. So I first ask about where are the price tags? Then I'll explain why I'm not buying it, no price tags no purchase. I understand I'll need to keep in mind where I'm at and temper my response. Just one of the many adjustments like eating fish and rice I'll need to make transitioning to PH. Thanks
You keep it so nice and real and honest. I was directed to your channel from another TH-cam or a couple , she is a big German-american build and she is a smaller Filipino man
Try Tagaytay Meat Market. You may need to acquire a freezer box to haul the goodies home. But wait until you have visited the meat market once and know what size you might need.
Thanks for the honest opinion... I’m looking forward to retirement and moving there as well.. though it’s still 10 years away , I have already made up my mind.. ✌🏻

I’m binge watching folks like you living/retiring to the Philippines. I’m Filipino-American. My hubby is American born and mother is Australian mother. Us moving to the Philippines we’ll be close to Australia to visit his mom. ALL my family is here in the US Cali. But I’m ready for a change. 🥰
Philippine is a nice place and you can start turkey / chicken free range farm, plant vegetables and many more. you can live organically and live longer life without toxic chemical like in usa ....!!!!!!! pick a land that have natural spring water, watch dexter world or Jigger Villacorta
First Philippines 🇵🇭 is one of the hottest weather on the planet put that in the consideration. Some places on the mountains side could be cooler like Baguio. I know it is hot

Hello I just left the Philippines in October back in the us I was there for 2yrs and I miss it already the people are so nice my wife family are the best so I cant wait to go back and finish our new home in magsaysay.
Good Day, I'm an American living in the Philippines for 8 years with my Filipina wife. We live in Batangas, I like you channel. You both seem like good people and are happy together. We wish you well. Thanks for your video. God Bless !
1st time to watch your channel. A very different take on living in the Philippines than I have seen on other channels. I have been in and out of the Philippines for years but have not lived there a long time. I like Dumaguete and some other province towns. Have a Magical Day!
Great video guys. 😊 I have a girlfriend in the Philippines. We just bought condo, which we are going to stay in when I’m there. We are now in the process of buying a piece of land. I can’t wait to start building our home. 👍
I am tired of working for someone else! I want to do my own projects and travel in paradise. I have been to the Philippines 4 times for a month each time. I went traveling the philippine islands spending around 3k each month having the time of my life. I am doing my best now to pay off my current house so that I can rent it out to fund my philippine new life free from working for someone else. I am hoping that the rent I can charge for my current home that I have paid off ($1200 monthly) can give me and my now Filipina wife a decent quality of life. I'm not sure if it's going to work out but I am planning to give it a good college try.
Have you ever been to New York City? Every car there whether it is new or not, has a scratch or dent. It is very densely packed in NYC. California is the opposite.
My base is Chiang Mai, Thailand but enjoyed your vid, PI would be my other choice..lots of similarities but think Tland has better infrastructure, medical, and.....food. This only my opinion. PI is better for proximity to beaches (compared to CM) and speaking English..anyway, Happy Belated New Year 🙏🏻👍🏻✌🏻🕊

Electricity costs in Philippines is about 21-24 cents per KWH which is more than double what I pay in the US. The reason your bill is about $80 is because you use far fewer kilowatts than you did in America. Don't tell people electricity is cheap.
Electricity in the Philippines is expensive compared to the US. I used my A/C only at night and it cost me $150. While my bill in the US(24HRS) is less than $200.
Electricity in Philippines is very expensive. People rejected a nuclear power plant in the 1980s. Govt spent billions (USD) to build it but it was never used. Pres. Marcos had the foresight to get it built but activists and other politicians stopped it from operating, let them suffer now with power outages and sky-high electricity bills for their stupidity.
@@JJason406 $ 13000 for a 5kwh system? Wow, that's quite expensive. I've installed my own (20 panels, kwh), for a total of €2500 (about $3000) What made is that expensive? Materials/man hours?
Your appliances and electronics there run on 220V not 120V. So unless you want to have a transformer for every device you bring over which takes up space then you may want to reconsider bringing that stuff over. In addition your US warranty would not cover you there unless it is a worldwide warranty and even then parts might be a problem to get. While stuff there is more expensive you can still easily find good quality brands such as Panansonic, Samsung, Sony and others. As far as Filipino cooking goes I recommend going to Jerrys a few times to discover some tasty Filipino dishes that would not be difficult to cook at home. They are in most major cities.
normal 99,95% all world ewery countrys uses normal 220V system, only some idiot old cavement brains country has stay old stupid 120V system, same imperial dimension system ewerywere not used normal today anywere only some old cavemen country has uses today idiot systems.
New subscriber from Canada. I am originally from Sta. Rosa Laguna but immigrated to Vancouver when I was 18. In 1983- My Canadian husband and I will be retiring early and planning to start building on lot we purchase at Nuvali . Batangas I think is close to Sta. Rosa. Thank you for information you provided about expenses. It’s great to know the current cost of living there. For sure I will need to get familiar to traffic and driving there when I return. Hopefully, will get some ideas of the cost of building a house thru your vlog. I will start watching your previous vlogs. God bless and stay safe.🙏
Nice to listen to your story and wish you both the very best in the Philippines. My Filipina wife is from Mindanao and we purchased property there and soon, God willing, start building our retirement home. It is definitely different than living in the US, but the culture and Filipino people and family-oriented culture are what set this country apart. God bless and stay well!
Really appreciate the video. My wife is Filipina and our plan is to retire in Manila where she’s from. We’re still 20 years away but it never hurts to start collecting information early.
According to "Grandpa Vlogger", you can reimburse your medical expenses when you're back to US...that is if you go back in fort between US & Philippines. I hear you, they do treat foreigners even Filipinos who are married to Americans or just retired from the US or other countries. Even the relatives do the same. They come to you with all their problems and expect you to solve it for them & trying to give you the guilty trip...So slime. They also borrow from you with no intention to pay.
I was with my Filipina wife and they wouldn't give her senior discount because she was with an expat. She told them that expat had mo money. They finally gave her, her discount.
A lot depends on how close you are to a City. In the provinces many items are not available even in small towns and ordering online may take 3-5 weeks to deliver. A work around is to have more than you need and think ahead. Which ironically is the opposite of my behaviour when living in UK. There, I have only what I need since can order virtually anything and have it delivered next day.
I have to tell you my first visit to cebu then the bus ride to dumaguete was disappointed in the garbage Internet service is why I decided no and look for to Thailand for a little better infrastructure I wish you guys the best and if it was me I think I’d pick up Tuk-Tuk
aircon with solar capacity - LOTS OF COOL WEATHER PLACES IN PHILIPPINES ---->>>>> live in negros occidental - valencia town - tagaytay - silang cavite - mt banahaw foothills - baguio
Im retiring in the Philippines next year. Coming back after 35 years of living in the US. First thing I told my wife. No relatives in the house. Maybe ill make an exception of her Dad. He could be useful when I go on vacations he can stay and watch the house. Extra relatives always lead to troubles.
when i went to military school there back in 87, i learn how to drive there back then and it was a 69bug. I grew up in the bayarea and now live in las vegas, when i retire, I will be going back and forth from makati to vegas. i have couple properties in vegas as investment. thanks for your insite on your experience. we have couple of properties there, one in pampanga(commercial) and couple in palawan(commerical and residential).
Also, if you live in Tagaytay, you have no use for aircon. We rented several different places before we built our house here and never used the aircon even once. If you have a fan in each room, you're good to go. We built our new house and it has NO aircon. We have never needed it. That's the main advantage about living in Tagaytay. I know guys who live in Cebu who run their aircon 24/7 and their electric bill is north of 10,000 pesos per month. That's the main reason I never wanted live in Cebu. If you gonna pay $200 per month for electric, you may as well live in the U.S. Our electric bill here averages $30-$40 per month -- and we have 2 large TVs and 2 large refs.
Just saw your channel n subscibed👍🏼 interesting topic. I would say this, you are blessed to have each other. I can see how you both love each other and accommodating each other and that’s a good thing😊. Your wife was right to say that people treating you according to your skin color is not just in there but everywhere, she is right. Hope you will be happy together there🙏
I think your like my husband . He's been there only once. If we can helped it, and our kids, I don't think they will like to live anymore in Phils, maybe only in emergency. But my husband lost weight a lot. And Texas and Phils it's too far too visit with my kids here. Now I'm comparing between Greece and Phils. But I think your rent and food budget is on the higher side, if we live in Cagayan de Oro or Cebu or bukidnon maybe it'll be a lot cheaper. With your budget in food and rent, I was looking at Greece it's a difference .400-500 in rent and maybe adjust in food for my future thinking for my husband and I. Thank you for your videos. I'll let my husband watch it.
Please try to see it aside from the budget. As a Filipino I can say that we can show you the true hospitality of the Filipino. Anyone who speaks English will be understood here as most Filipinos speak English. We are also multi-cultural so any foreigner should be able to meet people from one’s country and / or culture. Infrastructure is quite developed, transportation is available in most areas. Aside from buses, we have Jeepneys, Tricycles and Motorcycle rides w a driver, Light rail transits, trains, ferries, and soon subways. Planes are available to go to most parts of the country as our Airports are very well constructed and world class. Our sea ports are highly maintained. I could go on and on. Please do check out the channels of “The Hungry Syrian Wanderer” or Basel Manadil, Dasuri Choi, Joshua Cho, “Happy Reactions”, “Puting Pinoy”,.
so , starlink is a self positionable internet connection device, locatable anywhere! Tesla makes it, 500bucks for a dish and 100bucks a month .. this would solve the internet problem , anywhere !!
You will find the cost of a good health insurance policy is not cheap in southeast asia. Once you hit over 60 years of age. It's expensive and filled with pitfalls. The cost of a health care policy could be around $350.00US a month and won't be as good as a Medicare policy. These companies selling these policies can't sell these policies in the advance countries of the world. They are filled with pitfalls like not covering pre-existing conditions and caps on payouts. They can even drop you. Once they see your health going down hill.
Hi, I’ve two thing’s to say, 1st, I agree that there are people the world over that will take advantage you especially where money is concerned. And 2nd, it doesn’t seem and cheaper to live there than it does in the west which I’m surprised at, how do the locals survive.
It depends on where and how you want to live. Most expats, including myself although I haven't permanently moved there yet, live easily off of $800 to $1,000/mo.
Victor, the things I see cheaper are thing like property taxes, and services like private schools and general overall labor related items also my water and electric bill is less expensive. Again I have a family of 7 with 2 kids. Anything to do with electronics like appliances are more expensive with less of selection.
Just stumbled across your channel... good chat.. I"m in AZ too.. the only difference is we have a couple of properties in the province with a home we built for the wife's family 30 years ago.. I have a friend here in United States, when her mom got here, her mom automatic got the Medicare care as soon as she get here ,and her mom is 67 years old .I think as long as your 65 years old or older, you’ll get it if you are immigrant in United States. Her mom doesn’t need to wait for years to get the Medicare insurance. She got it right away!

Thanks for the vid. Might consider tossing in some examples of the things that you are describing. For example, walking ATM, what exactly does that mean? What do you get quoted versus what a Filipino pays? I spent some time in Mexico and got ripped off a bunch. A popular café charged me almost $9.00 for breakfast when the same thing cost natives $1.80. They even had two different menus. I will not retire in Mexico.
I know this vid was made a long time ago.... Have you done one more updated and someone prob already mentioned this but your mic because it's attached to your recording device is picking up all background sounds and your voices are faint. So if I up my volume all the background sound will overpower your voices
Really great walk through of your reasoning! The Philippines certainly seem like a great place to retire, especially with English being so prevalent. I'd love to spend an extended amount of time in the Philippines (as travel is my main passion, and what governs my financial journey/travel hacking) so videos like this are always so enjoyable to watch. I can't wait to see more. Just subscribed, keep it up!
Good luck in Lipa. Recently subscribed to your channel hoping to learn from your build. Thinking of building there too, not in Tiera Maria but in another part of Lipa where I own a piece of property. I’m currently in Washington but born and raised in Lipa, left in 1971. Hoping to go back to Lipa whenever the COVID-19 crisis is over.
I have a small affordable farm land with a nice big house in San Juan, Batangas. Price is only Php 6M. If you adapt her kids (under 18 y. o.) then they should be instantly converted into an American citizen.
We are in AZ also moving to the PH in the next 2 years before retirement ... just want a simpler life.. we’ve already built a home so less cost when we are there
I lived in the Philippines for 2 years. I would not want to retire there. The People are awesome. It's not a bad place to live if you're a Foreigner with money coming in, but it's the little things we take for granted. Not speaking Tagalog and spending 90% of your time around people who don't speak your language or understand sarcasm takes it toll. So does having the Internet drop everyday, and a Government with mood swings that will straight shut down an entire town just because it's Mayor said something the President didn't agree with. People fail to understand the difference between visiting somewhere and living somewhere.
Dark Legacy, I can you that you have a good handle on life here in the Philippines, your comments hit home the Philippines has so much potential to be such an awesome place I just wish the government would take better care of the people here, thanks for your comments.
That is why I am retiring in sunny Southern California(SoCal). I was born and raised in Philippines until 18 and moved to San Diego in 1987. I am now 52 and will retire from a US govt job in 5 years. QUALITY groceries, cars, electronics, appliances, shoes, wine, house utilities and clothes are CHEAPER in US than the Philippines. Can't beat the convenience in US and I have been to many countries. Govt and business transactions in US are more efficient, most of it can be done online. I get stressed and paranoid for my and family's safety when we are in the Philippines for vacations. I would take vacations there for 2-3 weeks tops and in other countries but SoCal is where the home/heart is. Being in SoCal is like being in the Philippines(Filipino stores and restaurants abound) with better weather, environment and efficient systems.
@@paengguin9381 I find it hard to believe that the cost of living is cheaper in south cal than in the Philippines! Numerous expats tell of their cost of living in PH. Much cheaper then southern Cal. Cost of housing, taxes, crime rate and corrupt politicians would make it impossible for me to live in California, or anywhere on the west coast.
@@suzintru1 It is cheaper in SoCal once house and cars are paid off. I compared prices of utilities, cars, electronics, groceries, appliances, shoes and clothes. Labor, dentist and other services are cheaper in the Philippines but how often do you really need those ? In US, there are plenty of sales and competition is stiff amongst all stores, that is why prices are low. You have to know when and where to buy. I am able to save lots of money because I am debt-free. I am fully insured so healthcare and dental/vision/pharmacy are very affordable. Meds are much cheaper in US now.
Star Elise, if you have a good butcher you can recommend please let us know. The Manila area has some great places to eat at but i have not spent enough time there to know the best shops.
Regarding Health Insurance....get a Pilhealth, it's cheap and at least will cover a portion of your health care cost than nothing, I believe around 30% then save around $100 or any amount that you can afford every month just try to stay healthy at least for a couple of years then you have that money that you can use in case of medical emergency and if you stay healthy for a longer period of time much better because you have more buffer. Healthcare here is still cheaper than in the U.S. even if you go to a world class hospital in Metro-Manila like the Asian Hospital, St. Luke Hospital, or Makati Medical it is still affordable. This is better option than buying a healthcare insurance outside which may cost you $800.00 to more than thousand dollars a month specially for a family coverage. We always go to St Luke Hospital in BGC for regular consultation and it will cost us around $17.00 dollars still not bad considering the quality of service they provide which is comparable if not better than any major hospital in the U.S. Most Doctors and Specialist there are U.S. educated or had experienced working in U.S. hospitals. These hospitals are excellent if you need critical care.
EVERYWHERE YOU GO OR RETIRE IN THE PHILIPPINES THERE'S ALWAYS UPS & DOWNS....I MEAN THERE IS A GOOD ONE & A BAD THING....SO, IT'S UP TO YOU / TO INDIVIDUALS....SEE/RESEARCH/LOOK/FIND OUT & LOOK AROUND YOU IN YOUR AREA/TOWN/CITY....BE EXTRA CAREFUL & DON'T BE AFRAID OF EXPERIMENTING...??? YOU'LL LEARN A LOT....TAKE THE GOOD ONES & THROW AWAY THE BAD ONES....AVOID IT,....Just HAPPY & BE CONTENTED....AT THE MOMENT I'M STILL HERE WORKING IN THE UK, ENGLAND....Planning to retire completely to the Philippines once I cannot do or help myself alone (hehehe)...Of course, I love to live & stay in the Phils.
I believed you guys can get Philhealth. It doesn’t cover a whole lot but it’ better than nothing. Enjoy you guys retirement over there I’m a bit jealous in a good way😊.
Thank you, I might of missed it but what area are you building at? I have 3yrs before I make the final move and I want to start everything before I do retire… Great videos

It’s like that in Mexico they don’t have special cuts of pork. You pay for bone and all per pound. You are in kilo system.
For 7 people that’s reasonable rent I guess.
Yeah Bahamas has an 80% duty tax. And you can see a lot of iPhone users there. I seen a girl drop and spider the screen on her brand new phone.
You are so right about being taken advantage just for the color of your skin. I’m a Filipino native but grew up in America. When I come to visit, my cousins tell me not to speak too much because of being fluent in English. This way I don’t get taken advantage of. They do all the negotiating for me.
best way
So you in pilipines only fir cheap pricess.
Not true!
LoL!
Great video! Thanks. My wife is Cebuana and we want to move there. I've been 5 times but never for more than 3 weeks. This is really informative.
For retirees life is slower and more chill in the Philippines. And everything in U.S. is more expensive. You made the right decision Sir.
Need to consider health insurance snd safety price commodities
Once house and cars are paid off and debt-free, you cannot beat the lifestyle in US especially if retiree planned and saved for retirement. If retiree is only relying on SS, then Philippines is a good option. Quality meats, groceries, clothes, shoes, cars, appliances, meds, household goods and electronics are much cheaper in US if you know where and when to buy. It is also more comfortable and convenient to retire in US. Govt transactions are fast and can be done online. Cars can be bought online, everything can be ordered online.
definitely!! ive lived here for a yr. way better here!
Lots of good info... will check out your other videos. Hopefully retiring to the PI in 2 years
When I lived in Metro Manila, I didn't want to live in the center of Manila.

Installing solar panels is cheaper though. In NY i got a price qoute for 13k for a 5k system in the Philippines it was half that
@@JJason406 However, the quality of PV panels available in PH is significantly inferior with shorter service life.
@@JJason406 $ 13000 for a 5kwh system?
Wow, that's quite expensive. I've installed my own (20 panels, kwh), for a total of €2500 (about $3000)
What made is that expensive?

We learned to say no those that never paid back are out of our life
I was with my Filipina wife and they wouldn't give her senior discount because she was with an expat. She told them that expat had mo money. They finally gave her, her discount.
Thanks for sharing this video. You touched on some very important things when someone is thinking of planning a life abroad.
I live in the country side in Texas. Takes about 1 week to get stuff delivered
I have to tell you my first visit to cebu then the bus ride to dumaguete was disappointed in the garbage Internet service is why I decided no and look for to Thailand for a little better infrastructure I wish you guys the best and if it was me I think I’d pick up Tuk-Tuk

@@NethFaulkner I agree. Even with it's flaws, The Philippines is truly a Hidden Gem.
Cool guys!!!
Thumbs up!

Star Elise, if you have a good butcher you can recommend please let us know. The Manila area has some great places to eat at but i have not spent enough time there to know the best shops.
There's a lot in Metro Manila.. In big supermarkets especially the high-end ones and Monterey shops.
In quezon city and ortigas center complex
As far as being a atm you get that here in USA if you are truck drivers
Do a video on buying a home there and what happens if you were to go to sell your home to move back to the US how hard is that
Regarding Health Insurance....get a Pilhealth, it's cheap and at least will cover a portion of your health care cost than nothing, I believe around 30% then save around $100 or any amount that you can afford every month just try to stay healthy at least for a couple of years then you have that money that you can use in case of medical emergency and if you stay healthy for a longer period of time much better because you have more buffer.
Thank you 😊
