Dramatic Thailand Military Draft, Why Young Men Afraid Of Conscription

- Each April in Thailand, young males over 21 years old are subjected to a lottery to determine who will be conscripted into the country's armed forces.
Their fate hinges on the choice of a black or red card. A black card means exemption, while a red card signifies mandatory enlistment.
However, why are young people so afraid of it? - บันเทิง
I can’t think of anything more gruelling than military training in Thailand’s heat and humidity. Seriously, stepping out of the airport there is like stepping into a bowl of warm soup.
It was tough but doable.
Info is wrong, they don't have to go pick the draft lottery every year between 21-30. They only have to do it once. They can deffer going to the lottery until they reach 30 if they can provide proof they are pursuing further education. Picking the draft lottery is a once in a life time event for Thai men, if you go pick at 21, that's it, you don't have to keep going until 30.
What if there's a man dreaming to join the military to serve the country. Yet, he got black/exemption card?
He must be sad
@@Dorothy0785He can volunteer. Getting Black doesn't mean you can't join. If a person wants to join they won't take the lottery, they would just apply to join.
Yea it’s not an annual thing that you attend it’s a once in a lifetime. Usually it’s for those that didn’t attend military school during their highschool years. If you don’t do that but have a capable body you’re likely to be picked for the lottery. My friend is pretty fat so he can’t attend the training and that also extend to the lottery.
Meanwhile in their neighbouring country, Indonesia, military service is not mandatory but to become a military personnel is a life long dream for many of the youth...and there's also option to serve as a volunteer reserve, if one can't become a regular personnel.
It Not Mandatory To Joint Military But It Mandatory To Give Bribe To Joint Military
Lmao... So true
is a life dream for the youth of Indonesia...
are you sure about it?
It's the same situation for NCO school and the service academies. E1 and E2 in the Thai military came from conscription and ended at E2, although there are quotas and extra points for those applying to NCO schools afterwards
When the conscription is over, Indonesian demand extended!! lol
Don’t bring cosmetics and lock the door at night … uh oh 😅
Many districts are filled with volunteers. In my district, the odds are a 200:1 chance of getting the red card. And the dude who got a red card fainted, of course.
3:34 this is literally every single Army and there is nothing wrong with that at all. I mean God forbid someone try to better you through hard work and loud words 🙄
4:27 Correction: you only need to draw the lottery once in your life. If you got a black card, you're free for life. No need to repeat the experience.
Is there a Thai man willingly join to a military?
@@chupol5659 Yes. I was one of those who volunteered before the draw. Each volunteer means one fewer red card, so people cheered and recruiters read my bio out loud. I felt like Katniss Aberdeen. I was allowed to choose branch and ship out date. I had a degree, so I could choose the Royal Thai Navy and only had to serve 6 months. Ask me anything.
@@honjokun0615did you ever get deployed
@@_Code_3 Nope. The 6 months enlistment included in garrison training and going on leave
@@honjokun0615 are you given any choice about what role you get job trained in or is it all just basic training?
Kami di indonesia, setiap tahun sangat banyak daftar penerimaan tentara, bahkan berkali-kali, belum tentu diterima kalau tidak memenuhi syarat istandar penerimaan prajurit, karena kebanggaan bagi kami bila jadi tentara
We live in a wild world
It's always the young dudes that are forced to sacrifice their lives and waste their good time of life smh
If the lottery goes out as:
“BLACK CARD!”
A guy: Yay! No need to be in the army!
Or
“RTA, first shift! 46th Military Circle, Pattani!”
A guy: *realizes* Oh shi- (or fainted)
you want red or black???
2:48 This is Cambodian army Thai army won't do such a thing.
Correction: Cambodian Police.
Decent Salary and you will get all The Soldiers needed Forget Conscription Freedom of Choice in an Excellent Armed Forces Career
Moral must be so low
In my Old country of Yugoslavia drafting is at 18 and must pass physical exam, now those going to school they could dodge it but at the end they still have to serve. After W2 service was 2 years I think in 70s the communists lowered it to one year..We had neighbour with only daughters and when drunk he would cry “I don’t have son for army” since it was an honour to serve Marshal Tito 😂🎉❤
In Indonesia, it's always my dream to become one of them (Special Force Unit), but i failed in Knowledge Test.😢😢
You can always try the French foreign legion.

In India everything about Army is good, the food is good, the training is good, the salary is good thats why every year there are many people who wants to join the Army.
Lol, the Indian military is a sad sight. Of course as an American I may be biased a bit.
Good is relative. For the poor people who can barely earn 10 cents a day, of course they would love to join army. Unlike India, country like thailand doesnt segregate its citizen, thats why conscription where not just the bottom feeder participate is done. Theres no slave there.
Yeah
.we totally believe u😂
lol no.
What if somebody want to join the army but is not selected
You can volunteer. Then no need for the lottery.
If you want to lower your career in the army, you can either volunteer yourself as a reserve force. From typically two years, it would lower down to one year (if you graduated from high school) or six months (if you gained an associate degree).
Hunger games irl
Dang theres a lot of....flamboyant boys there
This depressing cycle needs to end....
Why? Military service should be a honor for any citizen. Don't be a drag on your unit and you won't be hazed or hurt..
Every man in the world should go! At least 1 year! Makes man MAn!
@@CollinKillian Being in Thai conscript isn't honor but slavery to high ranks

Seeing this and by watching closely. This is in fact not a disturbing, rather than the option to still make a bet like it or not. Part of your life destiny. Saying that being abuse physically and mentally in the training. How much more in a real combat.
South Koreans and Singaporeans don't even have a choice. Barring disabilities or illness, all men living in the country have to. At least, lottery system, some might have chance not to be chosen.
Those getting hazed are likely the ones who refuse to train hard or adapt to military life.
Lol I'm sure their morale is high
Banyak tulang lunak 😂😂😂😂
Asians act so oddly
why so afraid?
It's a draft for enslavement for higher ranks
Oh no, they're getting drafted. Now they're going to have to learn some skills, learn to work as a team (if they don't already know how to do that) and then for the remainder of their time in the military, they'll get to be bored off their asses with regular training and really not doing much around it.
I hope they do this here in the Philippines 😊
Same here in Indonesia, i hope there is Conscription. We have too many armies already it seems. 😢
They do the same in Mexico, you don’t have a choice as soon as you turn 17 you know that in one year everyone else who’s also 17 at the time are going to see each other the day when the lottery comes,is done in the towns city hall square in front of everyone and the same thing you get black or white, ours is not as dramatic or there’s people selling ice cream or seeds for entertainment, ours is very somber because if you get drafted is that you will have to go very far away from home to do some “training” but what they really used the young ones is to investigate and do land “recognition” which is what we are told but in reality is to find cartel territory and drug crop fields and production facilities which their are deep hidden inside dessert lands or deep jungles and basically the mission success or failure depends on or if the cadets come back to base or not and I’m just gonna leave it at that.
Btw I was drafted on the same day of my 18 birthday a week later I received a letter saying an error was made and I was no longer in duty to serve, till this day I don’t know who made that happened because there was no error I was present when the black ball rolled out, I refused to be avoid drafting like that so I told my parents I was going back,a huge fight happened and I ended up promising my crying mother that I was going to stay but I went back secretly the base was hours far from home but when I got there I wasn’t permitted to even go beyond a gate that’s when one of their own told me everything and to go back home and be grateful, out the 48 teens drafted on that day 17 never made it back home, not even a body to bury.
