  • We did the VIP Tour of the Elephant Retirement Park in Phuket, Thailand. We experienced the joy of playing with, feeding, and bathing our baby elephant Pinky.
    Many of these elephants were rescued from trekking/riding parks and were brought to the safety of the Elephant Retirement Park, where they treat the animals with honor and respect. We booked the VIP/honeymoon experience which means we got a private tour, our own guide and elephant, a mini-cooking class, private lunch, and nearly 300 photos taken by our own personal photographer.

    I am supposed to be going with my sister to Thailand in October, but right now it is all up in the air. I hope we get to go. I love that you went to a place that is a sanctuary for elephants. I made a whole video rant about why people shouldn't be supporting 'ride an elephant' establishments.

    • @ELECTRIC-DNA
      @ELECTRIC-DNA  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! We did a lot of research to ensure we were supporting a rescue and not an elephant riding place. If you go to Thailand, check out Koh Lanta. It’s a little island that’s just stunning with super nice people and amazing street food.

    Concerned about the well-being of elephants since 2015, The number of tourists who help to nourish the elephant life at the Elephant Retirement Park in Thailand has been decreased.

      @CowboyJojosAdventures 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why is this? Can you please elaborate as we are going to Phuket and are thinking of going to the Sanctuary.

      @@CowboyJojosAdventures :
      Past statistics indicated that those who visit elephants in Thailand Most of them are tourists from Europe and America. Which may be due to the poor global economic situation, Causing such tourists to decrease too.
      If you have a travel plan to visit the elephant treatment facility in Phuket in the near future We, the Thai people, as the host would have a warm welcome. Which is currently open for service, We and these elephants are always waiting for you.

      I think it was around $150 usd per person, well worth it. Check out our website for the link to the park website and even more info. Many parks have similar names.

    To me it is not a sanctuary - the elephants have ropes around their necks and why are they still kept in an enclosure at times, why do they not roam freely?

    • @ELECTRIC-DNA
      @ELECTRIC-DNA  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aimee here. I spent probably 3-4 hours researching ethical elephant parks before we went to Thailand to ensure we were not supporting animal abuse.
      The ropes are to help their handlers guide them, since they are still giant animals they have to have something to lead them around the park. Also let’s be real - if the elephant wants to run away a thin rope is not going to stop them. It’s mostly to guide them, like a bridle on a horse. Some of them do roam freely but most of them are in pens for their own protection.
      As we drove around Thailand we saw elephants literally chained up in what looks like a jail cell on the side of the road. Those places are the ones to avoid. You can Google to see the differences but be ready for the graphic images.
      Just a tip - anywhere that offers an elephant “safari” or “trekking” is generally elephant riding which is extremely harmful to the elephants but still very common.
      I hope this helps. Many of these elephants were rescued from trekking places and are living the rest of their lives at the sanctuary. If you go to one of these, please do your research on TripAdvisor to read real people’s reviews first.

      You can see in the photos these animals are also in enclosures at the park you mentioned, so it seems very similar. They do that to ensure they eat (since they eat a lot) and get medicine.
