What If There Were No More CDs? Autism and Perseveration

What is Perseveration? It's getting stuck on words, or an idea. In this video, Jess perseverates on the topic of the future of CDs after I tell her that CDs will eventually be phased out. Our everyday life here includes perseverating about one thing or another. This was pretty mild as far as perseverating goes for Jess.
Other things to listen for in this video:
1. Jess saying she is eventually going to get rid of Marlow
2. Calling Marlow a Dirty Garbage Bad One
3. A declaration that Jess doesn't like a name Hannah picked out for a dog.
4. Jess leaving me hanging when I ask her if she will go on vacay with me in the future after she moves out.

Jess is 33-years-old, autistic, and blind. Her favorite topics of conversation include getting a new dog, her friend Keely, her Aunt Sue, and cousin Donna. Jess collects CD’s of children’s music, cards, coloring books, and has a small collection of used up disposable cameras that she refuses to get developed. Favorite health foods include chicken and rice, chicken tenders, chicken nuggets, chicken biscuits, pepperoni pizza, and hash brown potatoes. Jess has naturally curly hair that she would rather not ever comb, brush, or cut.
Jessica’s multiple disabilities stem from brain damage that occurred in-utero, and from hydrocephalus. In addition to autism and blindness, Jess also has minor fine motor and gross motor deficits. Hannah is Jessica's sister, and Marlow is Jessica's paid support staff (and Hannah's best friend.)
Every Single. Day in my classroom. I have one kiddo who does the same. I have gotten to where I sing 🎶 let it gooooo let it gooooo🎶 When he starts I say I am going to sing he will say “ok Ms Murphy I will let it go, don’t sing”

She is just the best. The BEST. I’m sure it is taxing, to handle the perseveration day in and day out. But she is so full of childlike wonder, and curiosity, and sass, (in the best way) confidence in herself. That’s a credit to your family and how you all have loved her into being the perfect Jess that she is!

It’s hard I understand ruminating over and over. The thing Jess is that CD’s can break, and digital downloads don’t! AND even better, you’ll be able to just tell Siri or Alexa what song you want and not have to search for a CD! ❤️❤️

I’m with Jessica on this, I prefer CDs too, I’m autistic also and I was never able to get the technology concept unless my sister shows me
i have the habit of perseveration also but i am not autistic. i think we all do that whenever we like something to an extreme or are in extreme worry mode

Has Jess ever used a service like Spotify where she can voice her choice of type (like children’s gospel songs) and hear songs from that genre? I know she calls similarly.

1. they're still making vinyl records(which is what I listen to and I only buy new records) they'll make CDs
2. CDs still have better sound quality then the radio or MP3
3. some bands are even making tapes for tape players still. even new bands that weren't around when tape players where a thing.

I totally understand. I love books on CD and am not a fan of downloading because I don’t want to always have to have my phone by me. And I’ve started collecting DVDs of all the movies and shows I like because then I don’t have to worry about them being deleted on Netflix or whatever.

Some, but not often.
I think when and IF Jess.moves out she moves in a house with 3-6 other Gals to help her if needed. Sort of like a Sorority House. Sisters 💘
