- A compilation of all the deaths (normal and hidden) in the 2014 remake of Shadowgate by Zojoi. Some of the deaths are redundant, such as repeating the same text for jumping out certain windows. I may have missed some variations on specific deaths (i.e. attacking a monster with X weapon instead of Y), so if something big was missed please point it out.

Can I just say I enjoy the fact the developers anticipated players wanting to throw themselves out of every window in the game? Every single one? I mean, this is a game known for its many ways to die, so it fits right in,

The only thing that would make these deaths more epic is to have Talimar laugh evilly every time you die just like how Morpheus did in good old Return to Zork, another adventure game just like this one :)
Definitely, but I would prefer slipping in an old man asking "Want some rye? 'Course ya do!" repeatedly. And maybe some creepy vultures.

Hey CrankyTemplar, I am surprised that you can't die in the game by using the Silver Orb when it has an elemental in it, except for the Lightning elemental. I see that the lightning elemental fries you to a crisp, but imagine if the Fire elemental death says that it cooks you, or the Ice elemental causes you to freeze solid, or the water elemental floods the room causing you to drown. The Air Elemental would probably blow you into a chasm or strip you to the bones. I feel that those are kind of missed death opportunities in the game.
Fire Elemental: You use the silver orb with the fire elemental on yourself, it ignites and catches you on fire, the pain causes you to try to desperately put out the flames but that only causes the flames to get more oxygen, eventually your blood, tissues, and organs are cooked and you are burned to a charred husk and you die.
Ice Elemental: You use the silver orb with the ice elemental on yourself. As you freeze to death you realize that this was incredibly stupid, eventually your body is frozen solid and some time later it shatters into a million pieces.
Water Elemental: You use the silver orb with the water elemental, unfortunately this causes water to cascade and flood the room, you cannot swim forever and you can't hold your breath for long and water fills your lungs, you die in excruciating pain before you mercifuly pass out and death takes you.
Air Elemental near pit: You use the Silver orb with the air elemental on yourself. Unfortunately it has the force of a hurricane, the air elemental blows you away and since you are near a pit, cliff, chasm, whatever, you fall a very long way to the bottom, the landing breaks every bone in your body and reduces all of the other parts of your body to paste.
Air Elemental anywhere else: You use the silver orb with the air elemental on yourself. As you release the air elemental it rushes towards you, unfortunately, it has the force of a hurricane, the wind is not only very strong, but also very sharp. It strips your flesh and all of your soft tissues off of your bones, you feel sharp cutting pain as it are reduced to a bleeding screaming skeleton and as you pass out, you die. The Grim Reaper now has another skeleton companion to keep him company.

Eh, the game was four years old when I put this up and its appeal is to a smaller audience (for comparison, the hidden deaths video I put up at release is at 30k+ views), so that's likely why. I'm quite content with how it is and if folks enjoy it then the time investment was worth it!

In the older PC versions, there were unique deaths for using consume on certain monsters.
Thank you so much for this!! I spent so much time in the NES version as a kid trying to find all the ways to off myself. At the time, even censored as it was, it was pretty extreme for the NES. "You thrust sword into your chest. Blood begins to flow. Suicide won't help in your quest! The Warlock Lord will surely triumph now!!" I like how this one gives snarky warning messages.
My two favorites here have to be: first, blowing up Yorick in the Goblin room. That should have been a hidden death: Suicide Bomber. Taking it nothing special happens if you try it by the Warlock Lord? Also, suicide in front of the Warlock Lord off the cliff. That literally had me lol. Just imagining the Warlock Lord a decade or two after his conquest sitting there scratching his head over it still. ;)
Yeah, destroying Yorick has no other real effect on other creatures. I also tried suicide bombing Lakmir to no effect.
Let's not forget the hammer thru the chest lol. That one was ridiculous

MC apparently missed science class that day.
In the older versions there's only one shield so as soon as it noted the shield was wooden I had to try it for some laughs. :)

Even metal shouldn't save you. Ever heard of heat conduction?
(I remember reading some sort of fantasy book, can't remember the title off the top of my head, where someone tried to block a dragon's flame with a metal shield and still got burnt into crisp due to heat conduction as well as the shield not protecting his arm and legs.)

Falling into the EPOR room, getting killed by an experiment in there, smashing the glass mirror that cuts you into ribbons, the acidic fountain...
Some of them are exclusive to the older PC versions or the NES versions. For instance, the glass mirror only kills you in the NES version to prevent an unwinnable situation - in the older PC versions your hammer is destroyed (which makes the game unwinnable if you didn't already break the center mirror).
I find it funny how epic they made this remake. Even though this i clearly very well done, the original was so quaint, and I think I preferred it that way.

The crypt in this remake doesn't have a slime monster, unfortunately.
@@CrankyTemplar Yeah, that's too bad. I always thought that was one of the funniest deaths. "No pain. No nothing. You were slimed". Oh well, at least we have the tar pits which are also hilarious. Thanks for uploading this compilation!
You forgot to use a lit torch on the Water Elemental
It's been a while but does that do anything besides extinguish your torch? I remember using the torch on all sorts of things that put it out but that results in the same death by letting it burn out.
Just tested it. The Water Elemental just extinguishes your torch. This doesn't kill you but moving to another room will very likely result in death, as with any other means of extinguishing the torch or letting it burn out.
What key is that for djinn?
It should be the key found in the catacombs with the cracked mirror and some books.
@@CrankyTemplar thank you I found the key and long after the djinn and figured that was it. I havent tried it but the key i found in the catacombs is called the disconcerting key. I assume its the same as the one you are talking. thanks for the quick reply.
Hey, I am going for these on Xbox and no matter what I do there is never any water in the moat despite gears combinations. Do you know anything about this or do you think its just glitched on console?
It is probably related to the difficulty settings. On difficulties easier than Master some puzzles (and deaths) are removed. Hidden deaths cannot be found except of Master difficulty (back in beta some hidden deaths could be done in Journeyman, but that was changed for release). I think they changed the difficulty settings around a bit a while after release, but that is likely the reason.
As the gear puzzle and water levels changed on Apprentice/Journeyman/Master. Apprentice only required the combo for the waterfall, Journeyman the waterfall and sewers, and Master the waterfall, sewers, and moat.

The artwork is terrible for this game, but the dialogue is quite good. My favorites are when you basically taunt Talimar into obliterating you in annoyance, and when he looks at you bewilderedly as you chuck yourself into the chasm.

They don't all read the same as there is different text for jumping out certain windows. I included ones that have different death text.
