The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy helping a local Secret Santa give $1 million to deserving people in eastern Idaho this holiday season.
Twyla is a very creative and compassionate person who is committed to building community wherever she goes. She teaches art classes to students of all ages -- from preschoolers to retirees -- and volunteers for many organizations. She is genuine and generous.
Nine years ago, Twyla started a holiday tradition with her three young sons called "Cocoa for a Cause." They sell hot chocolate and homemade treats to raise money for others in need. Many individuals and charitable organizations have benefited from their generosity, such as The Family Crisis Center, International Rescue Committee and several food pantries.
Twyla is a wonderful cook and shares her talents with everyone. Unfortunately, after baking thousands of goodies, her overworked oven died a few days ago. After all of that baking, maybe it just finally gave up. But Twyla didn't give up. In order to continue the tradition of giving, she's resorted to using other people's ovens.
Secret Santa asked the East Idaho News elves to surprise Twyla and there was a twist! Check out the video in the player above.

I agree. The grief was so raw. I’m not sure if much is given offline that the viewers never see. If so the families of the young couple should have been given offline. It was so distressing and sad.

Can you imagine being lucky enough to have a job where you are paid to bring joy and happiness to others? Nate (and his team) are very fortunate.
They are very lucky, but I think they sacrifice a lot to make it happen. This is very, very time consuming, and they never let on how exhausting it must be to squeeze in these trips, some of which are a couple hours each way.
Let’s not forget the horrific things Nate and East Idaho News has had to report on these last several years…. Vallow, Daybell, the 4 students. I am happy they get to do some heartwarming reports as well! Bravo Team EIN!!!

you can tell theyre great people because theyre not clearing shelves, they needed to be given extra time because theyre not in a rush to get the most out of it. What a sweet heart

That nate guy is so cool. He was literally helping them fill the shopping carts.
I was like wow! Look at him load their carts too! Even at the end, he asked what their favorite candy bars were and put the entire container on the belt!
Now, after that tough tough one from this morning... this was just what we needed. A really fun bunch of gifts for such a wonderful couple. That shopping trip was a joy and they were being so courteous and not grabbing everthing. Super one to watch and when you gave that extra £1,500 at the end that smile was so worth it.

I was laughing as I watched Nate filling in her cart. This was such a joyful and fun Secret Santa Surprise.
Same! I was smiling early on as Peggy was picking up extra bits for the husband's trolley in the first two minutes, then ended up fully laughing as they broke all the rules by extending the time, then giving up with a timer, all while Nate was loading armfuls of extras into the trolleys for them! 😂
It says a lot about them as a couple, though, doesn't it? That they had all that extra time and help, and still spent less than half of the allocated amount. Clearly not greedy people, making this even more deserved 💕

I agree. Some of these Secret Santa stories are heart breaking. A few months ago Nate was covering the Chad Vallow/Daybell trial (murdered children) so he deserves a little break from the more serious stories.

This was one of my favourite secret Santa gifts! I loved how Nate was grabbing extra stuff for them. It shows what kind of people they are in that they were seemingly being polite and selecting just a couple of each item they wanted.

I just commented something very similar regarding the fact that they were not taking a whole lot of items even though between the two of them they could have probably covered the entire store and emptied a lot of shelves but they definitely seem to intentionally take less rather than more

You give me hope!! I’ve been living in my Honda Civic since August and don’t have a job yet. I watch you all the time and I just know 2024 will be better. I never give up and recently had a seasonal job with Operation Christmas Child in Atlanta for four weeks. I try to keep giving even when I have needs. I’m a widow and the last year has been challenging. God is my helper and Secret Santa brings me joy!!! Keep up the work of the Lord!!!

I love that they only grabbed a few of each meat they wanted. They were considerate of others and practical in their choices.

How was not grabbing a lot of each item being "considerate of others?" Would others have to do without if they took a lot? The store would just refill the shelves. They spent too much time running from place to place instead of finding a spot and loading up on they could store and easily add to cart (spices, tuna fish, peanut butter, chicken breasts, canned stew, etc). Two people running around for 3 minutes and only getting $1,478 isn't very good. They had the total bumped up, so it worked out ok. If they didn't do so poorly I doubt the station would have bumped up the total.
@@walte153 there is not always stock available to just put some things out on the shelves. There is also no reason to grab hundreds of dollars of meats and frozen items that you will have nowhere to put them when you get home. Take what you need, not what you want. It says a lot about someone’s character when they display this as a normal behavior.
@@brucew7062 Nope. I don't think they brought them to a store with near empty shelves. The store is being paid for what is bought. Who said she had to only grab meats and frozen goods... or any at all? How about pet food, razor blades, tuna fish, spices, corned beef, cans of ham, and more. No freezing necessary. Sometime realism should enter the picture. They could be "nice" and next week wonder why their kids are hungry again.
