I just read up on the oil, apparently it is a very pure (99%) mix of 70% ethylene glycol and 30% glycerine. So it will be extremely toxic if you ingest it, but it will be water soluble I think so you can wash it off tools etc with water. I wonder why the colour filters are dome shaped?
I had a 1996 Magnavox that started getting blobs on the picture. I was told it was a form of mold because that coolimg gel went bad. Half the cost was in disposal. I gave the TV to a friend. Has anyone heard of this issue?
That could be similar oil to that stuff this Austrian company "Kreisel" is using to cool batteries for electric cars. The results are amazing, like 18 mins charge time etc.
may be that little metal piece that is housed on that plastic housing that connects to the end of the tube, there's a little wire that comes from the flyback and connects to it, the wire usually tears appart and the metal piece is rusted, just a piece of sandpaper and cutting re connecting the wire may fix it (or it may be something totally different who knows)

I am concerened about the oil too. Sylvain, take care. Wear gloves.
Why is there oil anyway? To cool down the CRT?
The oil is for cooling and optical coupling. It is not toxic, unless you ingest it!
