This is a proper lightbulb moment for me. I’ve put off buying an e-kit due to the awful samples, but with this software and the superior drummer software, I think I’m finally going to take the plunge. Do you get any haters for using an e-kit live? I just got one. The EZD samples are from the best producers and best recording studios around the world.
Surprisingly very few, because as you said the EZD samples sounds so amazing that people think the e drum kit module produce the sounds, besides for small venues you got the sound pressure level so much controlled, for me is easy to mix with the rest of the band, acoustic drums are awesome but they need a complex mic technique, if you set the E-drum module in the right way the results are so natural when you play

Awesome - Thank you for showing how to change the default setup of the kit. I've been trying to use the Timpani from EZDrummer 3 Expansion Classic Rock ( the John Bonham kit ) for a Classical orchestral type part. And now the possibilities are endless to create new custom kits.
Thanks Nick. I've been frustrated with getting my kit to integrate with EZdrummer3. This helped me tremendously, and it's by far the best video on EZdrummer3 that I've seen. God bless ya.
Great, easy to understand presentation, Nick. I've been using this to record our album in Logic pro. It's also great to as well as record using MIDI from my Roland kit to trigger the kits in EZ Drummer, to also take stereo lines out from the brain and record the audio at the same time. Before using DAW, I spent so long editing my Roland to build my perfect kit to the music we are creating, it's interesting to hear them both in comparison.
Great video! I'm entirely new to electronic instruments, despite tinkering with computers all my life. Very humbling to not know at all what I'm doing! At first, I was just interested in plugging into the computer for the good, full speakers. It's nice to see I've got a ton more options after that.

Another awesome video by Nick. However, I like to point out that there are differences between the standalone version and the plugin version in the setup instructions. I am using this with Ableton Live 11, but this should apply to all or most DAWs. When using the plugin version (which I think is really a call to the standalone version passing a parameter that places it into a "plugin mode") there is NO OPTION in the SETUP tab to select AUDIO/MIDI setup. Instead it only shows EDRUM/MIDI IN. Selecting this brings you to the PRESET selection screen. From there you do the same as in the video to select which kit you have and the section optimizing the HiHat instrument. At this point there is no option to select a buffer size in EZDRUMMER 3. Instead you can bring up a screen that shows buffer sizes, but this is from the ASIO driver, not EZDRM 3 and it won't allow you to change that buffer size because it's in use by the program. This may be an Ableton thing, but I have no way to verify that. So this may only apply to Ableton, your mileage may vary. BUT, there is no need to change any buffer size as it all seems to work just fine with absolutely no latency or delay of any kind (at least on my PC which is a mid level unit, not a gaming machine and I am using a Roland TD27 kit). Everything else follows the video exactly. One more problem I ran into. I am using the internal interface of the TD27 module, so the resulting audio goes back to the TD27 and I use the headphone output from there to monitor the sound. When I strike a drum or any trigger on the kit, I hear not only the EZDRMR 3 sound, but the sound coming from the TD27 kit. So there are two sounds coming into the headphones. There is no way to use the triggers on the TD27 without having a drum kit selected. This really had me stopped for a while. I fixed this by noticing that there is a special button on the TD27 called "kit volume". By selecting that on the TD27, was able to set the volume to "-INF" which is essentially 0 AUDIO output, the trigger output still comes out to the PC. Problem fixed. You can pick any drum kit in the TD27 and do this as you are not going to use the synthesized drums in the KIT anyway. So I hope this extra bit of info helps anyone having trouble integrating their electronic drums in a DAW using the PLUGIN version. And thanks, Nick, for a great video. Joel

Hey Nick what cable are you using to connect your module to your computer and what laptop would be a good option get that will work well with the td50x. Thanks for any help
Excellent overview Nick... You actually sold me on the Alesis Striike Multipad. The problem I am having is I am unable to hear playback recorded from my Alesis Strike Multipad MIDI drums in my DAW (Protools Version 12.7.1) . I am using a USB (not 5 pin) connection connecting the Multipad to my computer. I do see the recorded MIDI in Protools, but I can only hear what I recorded in my DAW using headphones plugged into the Multipad, but when I listen to the recorded track in my DAW it is silent. What settings should I check in in the menu on the Alesis? Very frustrated. Instructions don't cover details. Thanks.
hi, how come the sound that comes out on my amp/speaker is the sound from my drum module but when i click the drums on the laptop, its the ez drummer sound?
I want it!.. the TD 50 and EZdrummer 3. or Superior drummer 3. I'm still on the old Td25 and Td 11 linked together with 8 mesh pads, 8 roland cymbals. double bass pedal. bk125 snare. all I worry about is latency with these programs. It has to be as minimal as drum module for me.
So you need to have an audio interface? I was hoping I could just send the output from EZD3 to TD27v2 and hear it through headphone connected to TD27v2...No??
Hey, Mark. Thanks for your interest. You don’t necessarily need an interface. You can connect via USB to your computer but your headphones have to be connected to your computer since that essentially becomes the brain and the output. I hope this helps. Will this have better response then my drum module. My module lacks sensitivity and I have to hit the pads too hard to make a sound especially ride cymbals and hi hi hat. I’ve quit playing my e drums cause they just don’t jump. Will this help that?
Hi, thanks for your interest! If your module has USB-MIDI connectivity, you can certainly use it as a controller for EZ Drummer. You can also customize the velocity curve within EZ Drummer, which will allow you to trigger “louder” drum hits with softer strikes. So, if the issue is simply that you’re not getting the punch and volume that you want out of the sounds in the module, it’s possible that EZ Drummer could help. However, if the pads on your electronic drum kit aren’t responding at all when you hit them, they also wouldn’t send MIDI info into the software to trigger the EZ Drummer sounds. One thing you might try before purchasing the software is to connect your module to your computer, and use a free DAW such as GarageBand or Cakewalk to test whether the pads are sending MIDI notes. If that works, EZ Drummer may be just what you need. Feel free to contact me directly with further questions, and thanks again! Caleb Lowrey, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1620, caleb_lowrey@sweetwater.com
I noticed that for certain parts in my e-kit like my snare and cymbals the volume is kinda low no matter how hard I hit it compared to how it should sound.
Hi I just got it but how can you ad inputs? I mean Im pluging a td3 and td9 at the same time and the drum kit has 6 toms and 7 cymbals, so how can I set custom sounds to each of my pads??
How well does EZ3 "interact" with the Roland PD-140DS? As it has different playing zones I am wondering how well EZ3 does work with these as it does with the different sounds at the Digital HiHat. Does it translate without any lack of sensitivity?
Looks like a great program, but you can't edit which virtual drums/cymbals are displaying? I want the drums to be in the same position as where I set up in my e-kit
Yeah, poor design on that. Just let me set the default! Takes way too much time when you go in to edit sounds. Surprised they messed that up. Otherwise, a top product
Hello, in my computer my cpu is a AMD Ryzen 5 5500U with Radeon Graphics, BUT in the toontrack page it says: "Systems requirements: macOS 10.10 or higher, Intel or Apple silicon processor" Does it mean I can not run the software on my computer? :(
There's something you don't talk about in the video... how do I plug my eletronic drumkit on my computer ? I need that to make EZdrummer work with my drumkit right ? So which cable do I need ? And where to plug it ?
Hello, Toxic’ TTV! All e-drum kits are different, but most nowadays have a USB port that transmits MIDI to your computer over the USB connection. If your drum module does not have that, it likely still has 5-pin MIDI ports which could be connected to your computer via one of these: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/UMOneMk2--roland-um-one-mk2-usb-midi-interface Thanks for the interest! Hey, Potenza Designs. Thanks so much for your interest. You can save it with these following steps: 1. Set up EZdrummer 3 the way you want to have it, including the MIDI In e-drum preset. 2. Save an EZdrummer 3 project (Menu/Save as…) 3. Find the folder where the Default Project is saved. 4. Take the EZdrummer 3 project file you saved in step 2, rename it to DefaultProject and replace the file in step 3. I hope this helps. I cannot get this to work for my TD-25KV. I updated the Mac drivers, and I have EZDrummer running in Studio One. ATOM SQ triggers the drums fine, but when I go to MIDI/E-Drums and select my TD-25 I get nothing. USB is connected from my TD module into my Mac. My EZDrummer Settings screen looks nothing like this at all. No sample rate options, for example. Not sure what I am doing wrong. I will submit trouble tickets to Roland and EZ Drummer I guess.
Hey Nick i hope you have time to reply this, could you mention about the Requirements to run this program? Sorry for my broken english, It isn't my native language 😢
Hey there! No, you can’t save them into your TD27 directly. You’ll want to setup those sounds in Ez Drummer and save different presets there. From there, you can easily access those sounds within the software while you’re using your kit to trigger. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to chat through that setup a bit further! A single headphone and single speaker option that's easy to switch between kit and vst would be a dream. Or is it possible to just get the VST to 'push' to the kit?
Hey UtwoBed, I hope you’re well. You can set it up both ways. The best way to do it is through the TD50 because the headphone amp and DAC will be better than what most computers have. I'm sorry, i'm brand new to this. I have the alesis strike pro se. I don't understand how the kit is physically connected to the computer. Is with midi cables or LR main outs? I just need to know what cables i need. LOL... this is embarrassing.
Hey, Tyler. There are a number of different ways. The easiest way and best way is via USB. It's just a straight connection. You can use midi as well, but you will need an interface with midi. If you’d like to use the main outs, you can. But you will also need an interface. Again, the best way, especially with EZ Drummer, would be via USB. You need to turn the ‘local control’ inside your td27 (under midi) to ‘off’. That turns your internal sounds off while using a VST
The simplest thing is to turn off LOCAL CTRL as noted below.

I'm using soduku drum..but in preset doesn't have...I tried others but still drumm doesn't triggered...
What is the best driver to install 🤔 to used this
bright room is fantastic. there is a drum preset similar to IN UTERO
Does anyone know what Roland Kit Nick is playing here? Also Nick is the best, I miss him
I have an efnote and it isnt on the drum kit options. Any ideas how to do this?
Great video !!Very helpful !!!!
Does this work with Avatar SD61-6?

Big Thanks for this amazing tutorial !

I'm having issues . Just purchased ezd3 . I bought a new laptop to run it. I'm getting a big time delay . The lowest buffer size available is 244.
I noticed that for certain parts in my e-kit like my snare and cymbals the volume is kinda low no matter how hard I hit it compared to how it should sound.
What kit?
Hi I just got it but how can you ad inputs? I mean Im pluging a td3 and td9 at the same time and the drum kit has 6 toms and 7 cymbals, so how can I set custom sounds to each of my pads??
i have a atv ex5 but i cant find a driver for that module
Toon track is top notch stuff.I love it
How well does EZ3 "interact" with the Roland PD-140DS? As it has different playing zones I am wondering how well EZ3 does work with these as it does with the different sounds at the Digital HiHat. Does it translate without any lack of sensitivity?
Hey where’s the Roland TD-07? Just ordered one!
Hello, in my computer my cpu is a AMD Ryzen 5 5500U with Radeon Graphics, BUT in the toontrack page it says: "Systems requirements: macOS 10.10 or higher, Intel or Apple silicon processor"
Does it mean I can not run the software on my computer? :(
There's something you don't talk about in the video... how do I plug my eletronic drumkit on my computer ? I need that to make EZdrummer work with my drumkit right ? So which cable do I need ? And where to plug it ?
Hello, Toxic’ TTV! All e-drum kits are different, but most nowadays have a USB port that transmits MIDI to your computer over the USB connection. If your drum module does not have that, it likely still has 5-pin MIDI ports which could be connected to your computer via one of these:

@@sweetwater wasn't expecting to get an answers but that's a welcomed surprise, thanks for the help!
If you create a custom kit in EzDrummer, how would it save so we could use it later?
Hey, Potenza Designs. Thanks so much for your interest. You can save it with these following steps:
1. Set up EZdrummer 3 the way you want to have it, including the MIDI In e-drum preset.
2. Save an EZdrummer 3 project (Menu/Save as…)
3. Find the folder where the Default Project is saved.
4. Take the EZdrummer 3 project file you saved in step 2, rename it to DefaultProject and replace the file in step 3.
I hope this helps.

What is the difference between EZ drummer and Superior drummer ?
J'aimerais savoir Quel ordinateur que tu utilise et quel ordinateur je peut utiliser pour pas avoir de probleme de latence. ca va fonctionner pareil avec un roland td 11
Good day sir! Are you using interface here? Or you can just connect it thru midi bluetooth?
Where can I learn how to install the driver?
Hi! Hey I have a question, how I need to conect the drum set if I want to sound in the monitors but with the extra plugin for drums.
Hey, NoMore. Thanks so much for reaching out. It depends on the drum. In most cases you will want an interface to use with these. Depending on the drums, you can also directly connect to your computer via USB and the computer to your speakers/mixer.
I hope this helps.

What if the Kit is not on the list
This was awesome! Is it possible to multichannel out of the interface to a live console ! So electronic drums +superior drums + interface + audio console ? Hope this makes sense!
Hey, Derek. Thanks so much for your interest. Yes you can. As long as your interface has enough outputs to send out to a live console.

Make sure your USB cable is 2.0. That was my problem.
EZ DRUMMER alongside of the MPC X... this is going to be fire lol. ✌
Hey Nick i hope you have time to reply this, could you mention about the Requirements to run this program?
Sorry for my broken english, It isn't my native language 😢
Can you save the sounds form Ez drummer to your Roland TD-27 Module?
Hey there! No, you can’t save them into your TD27 directly. You’ll want to setup those sounds in Ez Drummer and save different presets there. From there, you can easily access those sounds within the software while you’re using your kit to trigger.
Feel free to reach out if you’d like to chat through that setup a bit further!

Can you do this with drum designer in Logic Pro?
Hi iam from indonesia, thank for your sharing video are very usefull, i want to ask How to adding tambourine to snare hit in ez drummer?
I recently bought Aeroband Pocket drums 2 to mess around with my limited space. Can I use EZ drummer with Areoband drums and can you make a video trying it?
Sweet vid! Just ordered a vad507, new to all this but looking forward to tinkering with sounds!
What's everyone's experience rigging up inputs/outputs between drum module and laptop?
A single headphone and single speaker option that's easy to switch between kit and vst would be a dream. Or is it possible to just get the VST to 'push' to the kit?
When monitoring with this setup are you listening with your headphones plugged into the TD-50 or the audio output of the laptop??
Hey UtwoBed, I hope you’re well.
You can set it up both ways. The best way to do it is through the TD50 because the headphone amp and DAC will be better than what most computers have.
I hope this helps.

nick. what driver would I install for a Mac Big Sur? I cannot find this info anywhere. I've got everything set right on DAW and module but I can't find what driver I need to install
THIS IS SO COOL AND EASY
I'm sorry, i'm brand new to this. I have the alesis strike pro se. I don't understand how the kit is physically connected to the computer. Is with midi cables or LR main outs? I just need to know what cables i need. LOL... this is embarrassing.
Hey, Tyler. There are a number of different ways. The easiest way and best way is via USB. It's just a straight connection. You can use midi as well, but you will need an interface with midi. If you’d like to use the main outs, you can. But you will also need an interface. Again, the best way, especially with EZ Drummer, would be via USB.
Thanks,

A tutorial about how to set this up to record with a DAW like Cakewalk would be very helpful.
Can I use EZ drummer without a drum module, and just use drum triggers on an acoustic kit?
Hey, Neal. Thanks for your interest. You will still need a trigger module/interface to connect to your computer to use the sounds.
I hope this helps.
