listen far be it from me to defend james corden, who has given people _many_ valid reasons to criticize and dislike him, but people are purposely misrepresenting what happened. the cast were ready to perform, but could hear the audience reacting to the football match as it was going on. they -- as in the cast, crew, and stage manager, not solely james corden -- realized that the audience would likely be on their phones checking for scores or even continuing watching the match during the play. this is distracting to not just the person with the phone, but to people around them and to the actors. so they decided to delay the performance for ~10-15 minutes and just watch the end of the match with the audience. again, i don't like the guy, but i dislike people being willfully ignorant even more.
