Where I live here in Japan, some of the vegetables they serve in their lunches come from vegetables grown by the kids in their school farm. The kids harvest them, and they are taken to the school kitchen where the lunch ladies cook everything from scratch. They don’t use frozen, pre-cooked food. It’s a way to teach kids about growing what they eat. I love that part. ❤️

@@esteemedcharacteractressma58 Same in Sweden. We have plates and glasses, to me it looks so strange eating on a tray with different compartments. To me that looks like airplane food. We get the milk from those... I´m not sure what the word for it is, perhaps milk dispenser (?), it´s like a square cooler with milk inside and a tap at the bottom, and you push your glass against a thing and get milk.
It was back in the mid 1940s it was decided that all kids should get a real cooked meal at school, paid for by the taxpayers. Since the 2000s, there are always two choices, like one vegetarian meal and one with meat/fish/chicken. If you want to know how Swedish school food looks like google "skolmat", some looks good, and some less good.

You can thank Michelle Obama for that! The school I went to use to cook food from scratch (like fried chicken and pizza) but thanks to Michelle's "healthy" lunch programs all that got removed and we weren't allowed to have seconds. Eventually the cafeteria ladies realized growing boys need bigger portions (I'm assuming they at least based the portions on the amount girls ate, though they may have been under feeding girls too, but it clearly wasnt made with boys in mind) and started letting us get seconds. The fact that the nutrition standards Michelle championed didn't take into account the metabolism rates of growing teenagers shows how much the 2008-2016 administration really knew about food and health
