Colorful, yummy, and comforting ? I'm in! Haven't had tots in a while and now I'm remembering how much I miss them! So tomorrow they're on the list! Also, was thinking cheese might be a good addition, and a few seconds later it made an appearance! Delicious!
Tater Tots! Childhood revisited - now all we need is a sled and a pair of too-big galoshes which allow snow in; oh, and Mom to have these waiting for us when we return home, which is the key ingredient.
Chef John told me that if enough people make the same unoriginal comment about authentic poutine, he will personally help everyone pick out a new set of dishwasher safe/ his-and-hers diapers just in time for the long weekend
@Mark723 Do you actually live in some backwater town were people still make millenial jokes? Or were you frozen in ice 20 years ago and just defrosted yesterday? Millenials are in their 30s and 40s, old man. You're even behind the times on complaining about being behind the times
@Mark723 Please give the millennial jokes a rest. They're very tired and everyone but you is tired of them. Most of us are in our mid 30's to early 40's and have been working on our own for some time. Many of us are even caring for our children and our own parents.
That's something I do in some recipes, but not all. This recipe combined the chicken pieces with a sauce and it needs to marinate with the sauce. Having browned chicken pieces would decrease the marination of that incredible sauce.
I am soooo going to be a bad boy tomorrow. Taking my leftover taco meat, some beef gravy (with chile powder) and some cubed up Monterrey Jack to work and gonna pour that all over a fresh pile of tater tot’s from the cafeteria. Yum!
There's cayenne on the chicken @ 1:43 "we will start by seasoning a pound of chicken thighs with a mixture of salt, freshly ground black pepper, and cayenne"
I like how TH-cam always lines up Mr. Sausage from "Ordinary Sausage" with Chef John videos. A little bit of culinary whiplash for your viewing pleasure.
It's probably the French Canadian in me, but I think this would be delicious with some cheese curds too! Maybe keep the Monterey Jack in the sauce, but just before serving, top the tots with some curds and then add the sauce?
I can't eat potatoes and really miss chili cheese fries and poutine. Thank you for the sauce recipe. Using lightly breaded chicken nuggets, I now have a great substitute for tater tots...
Exactly - it's bad enough that a certain faction of the U.S. is threatening to invade Canada, it would be too much to bear to add Cayenne to the ingredient list at the same time.
Chef John, not sure if you know but youtube translates your titles to differente languages. At least to German. And I can't see the original title, but in German it says "Hühnchen-Kleinigkeiten" and it sounds kinda weird. Which would more be "chicken-trifles" or "chicken-details" in a very literal translation (just to give you a feel how wrong it sounds). TH-cams title translation is pretty bad, just wanted to let you know. Because it's activated on the channels side (by default), not the user side (at least as far as I know) Still love the video itself as muc als all of your other videos. BR
Honestly given the title I was kinda expecting like tater tots, but made of chicken instead somehow lol. I guess those would just be bog standard chicken nuggets shaped into little cylinders, though.
2 pizza bagels , 1 ham steak puck, 1 pineapple Ring grilled, crispy peperoni & Bacon , provolone, jalapenos and parmesan?. What does that make .. my gift to the world( bagel samich)
As a french canadian, I'm more offended that you didn't call it poutine. Everything here gets called poutine. I had a chicken shawarma poutine just the other day. If it has a sauce, cheese, and potato, you're good to go.
Canadian here. Absolutely not poutine, so thanks to your French Canadian friend. This looks more like a meat pie filling on top of tater tots to me. It looks delicious, Chef John!
I feel like you can call it poutine if you at least put the typical chicken/beef gravy on it. Otherwise, we just call them "loaded tots" or "loaded fries"
Tater tots meet Pot Pie, Pot Pie, this is tots. You guys are going to be great friends.
Tator Tot Tie.
Three words. Minnesota hot dish.
Don't be silly. Where are the noodles. Pot Pie needs noodles.
they are FURIOUSLY making out in the kitchen...
yeah, i'm thinking celery, onion, carrot instead of the bell peppers. very pot pie esque.

The Napoleon Dynamite reference in a tater tot recipe is why I love Chef John.
In the 10+ years I've watched Food Wishes, I've never seen a piece of food escape the pan, until today!
Chicken ala King version over tots would be good too 🥰
This is giving me ideas of Chicken Tot Pie! :)
I was thinking the same exact thing!
You are the Stephen Fry of your chicken tot pie
Oh dear I really want this now.
Congrats, you discovered the purpose of this channel. Go make it! 😊
Wow, I didn't know tatertots could be elevated, lol. Very creative.
All the best from 🇨🇦
@@lisabarr6004 they can't.
@albertprestipino3143 😆
@@albertprestipino3143 If you can act as pretentiously as you do, then tator tots can be called a high class meal.
These are all ingredients I frequently buy, so obviously I’m gonna make this.
This looks absolutely delicious, I can’t wait to make this this afternoon
Looks tasty and easy, a combo that we all love! Thank you John💕👍
I am french canadian and i approve this poutine
Ça l'air bon mais c'est pas de la poutine tant qu'à moi.
I ADORE Tater Tots and I miss them, since moving out of the USA. The onion flavor were my fave. This recipe looks yummy!
Oh man.
The comment wars are going to be legendary on this one.
Looks good though, chef.
Let’s all keep the peace folks. It’s just food
Seeing this makes me want to see Chef John make Tater Tot Hotdish
he already has!
Another masterpiece chef! Can't wait to try this one.
Looks absolutely delicious!
1:10-in and my tater tots game has already been taken to new heights
Looks like a great weeknight treat!
I do something similar with Chicken Pot Pie soup in a can. Not as good as this would be, homemade is always better. But I love the idea.
Took a screenshot of tater tots on the baking sheet to place “as shown” (01:02) per Chef John. Looks a bit tricky but will give it a shot. 🙄

I like "Chicken'n Tots" and it looks really great, especially for a couched movie dish. 😁
Just be careful and don't accidentally get "Chick'n 'n tots" 😂
Tater Tots! Childhood revisited - now all we need is a sled and a pair of too-big galoshes which allow snow in; oh, and Mom to have these waiting for us when we return home, which is the key ingredient.
The commentary is top tier 😂
Pommes de terre et pouet? Le Chef John, he is the Vida Blue of his Sacré bleu.
Chef John told me that if enough people make the same unoriginal comment about authentic poutine, he will personally help everyone pick out a new set of dishwasher safe/ his-and-hers diapers just in time for the long weekend
Great - now all the Millennials in the audience will need to run home to mommy and have her whip up this recipe so they can feel better.

That is funny
Looks AWESOME!
Looks like I know what I'm making for the Divisional Round this weekend ... can't wait!
I'm glad you started by clearing things up...
How about cutting up the chicken before cooking? would it not give more browning and flavour?
That's something I do in some recipes, but not all. This recipe combined the chicken pieces with a sauce and it needs to marinate with the sauce. Having browned chicken pieces would decrease the marination of that incredible sauce.
Yummy! I love tater tots!
As a Canadian that doesn’t like poutine, I approve calling this poutine.
Do you think placing the tots on an already heated foil lined pan would make them even crispier? I'm always wanting super crispy!
I'd try that!
Saucy meat over potatoes could be the alternate name for this channel
I am soooo going to be a bad boy tomorrow. Taking my leftover taco meat, some beef gravy (with chile powder) and some cubed up Monterrey Jack to work and gonna pour that all over a fresh pile of tater tot’s from the cafeteria. Yum!
Poutine or not, looks like a delicious creation all the same!
No cayenne or jalapenos? WTF?
There's cayenne on the chicken

This looks amazing but how does the lemon juice not curdle the heavy cream?
The part of milk that curdles is removed in heavy cream. Don't try this with milk, half/half or light cream.
Cayenne @ 1:45 for all those who missed it.
Looks great, but I think I would want the sauce much thicker.
Maybe Poulet Poutine? Or if you're very daring and don't care a fig for destroying both language and cuisine, Poulet-tine!
My name is tatertots
Is your dad Tater Salad?
Comedian Ron white, lol

The proper way to make tater tots: Use the frozen variety of your choice. :D
I can't eat potatoes and really miss chili cheese fries and poutine. Thank you for the sauce recipe. Using lightly breaded chicken nuggets, I now have a great substitute for tater tots...
I'm glad you didn't call it a poutine.. Poutine never, ever has grated cheese. But in saying that, this looks delicious
Cheese is never optional!
love you Jon!
What?! No cayenne?!?
Exactly - it's bad enough that a certain faction of the U.S. is threatening to invade Canada, it would be too much to bear to add Cayenne to the ingredient list at the same time.
I kove the reacently made up studies, they seem to be the most accurate.
5:15 You are after all, Bruce Springsteen “The Boss,” of just how thick to make your sauce.
volume seems low... but im gonna make this this weekend
Coach, I'm putting in a small splash of white vermouth or white wine in the sauce (vermouth has more personality).
Looks great. Surprised no flour was used.
I feel like “Chicken Disco Tots” would be more appropriate of a name.
Canuck and Oregon cuisine made one
Cannot remember the last time I actually went out to purchase tater tots deliberately. Apparently that streak will end.
Ahhhhhhhhhh high school me would have LOVED getting this for lunch 😜👍🏽
I think adult me would love to get this now for lunch.
Or dinner.
Or breakfast

air fryer >>> oven for frozen tots or fries or chicken tenders or...most anything frozen really
Whoa! there isnt near enuf cheese to even be considered poutin on this planet!
i hope i'm not the only one who saw chicken tots and thought of pulled chicken compressed into cylinders and fried.
As a Quebecer I would like to inform you that in my region of Outaouais. No tater tots can be found. Even at Walmart.
Honestly given the title I was kinda expecting like tater tots, but made of chicken instead somehow lol. I guess those would just be bog standard chicken nuggets shaped into little cylinders, though.
If you had put cheese curds on top, that would definitely have qualified as poutine to me.
No cayenne? This isn’t a chef John recipe…who is this imposter?
Thanks for adding Poutine between quotes.
GOOD.....

already laughing at tatter-tips... and everyone including kids will love it.
Requesting Ambrosia! 🍒🍊🍍🥚❤️
Did I miss it ? No Cayenne pepper? Chef John say it isn’t so!? 😂 Also, Tater tots might be better when done in an Air Fryer.
But wait!!! What do I do when I cant get premade tater tots??? 😭😭 how do I make them??
Also kind of an upsidedown hit dish.
My grandkids are happy with cheese, bacon, and a dollop of sour cream.
Did I miss the obligatory shake of cayenne?!
Yes 1:45
Did I miss the part where he puts cayenne in?

I feel like the quotes around "poutine" are doing some heavy lifting. Still looks delicious!
To be honest I was expecting tots made of chicken and I'm just a bit disappointed.
Do you also expect Girl Scout cookies to be made from real Girl Scouts...?
I'd use coconut milk instead ❤
well the issue is...we don't have tater tots in our country
Definitely *_not_* poutine… but it does look tasty! 😋
Just call it Foutine and dig in
When I cook tots, I have to line them up straight and in neat rows😅. Having them all haphazard gives me anxiety 😅
I’ve never wanted to be an offended Canadian so much in my life.
I live in Europe. What is tater tots?
Chopped Potatoes formed into a cylinder and fried.
We don't have the real Tater Tots in The Netherlands
😳😢💔
pre made tots from a bag WTF your a chef
Defrosting the chicken thighs now! 👍😎
Chicken Pout Pie
But where’s the Bacon 🥓 😂 looks like it definitely needs some Bacon 🥓
