Lovely video! I came across the same problem when I tried to adapt a pentax lens on my canon eos. I knew nothing (still dont) about flange distance. but i figured if I hand held my lens to the camera, I could get infinity focus. So I broke the glass of a cheap UV filter and took it to a local optics shop (for spectacles) and asked them to fix a negative spherical dioptre of 0.5 value. It worked!!! But had a few artifacts. So I built an adapter by shaving off a cheap body cap of my camera and supreglueing it to the pentax k-mount. It works even better. What you explained here reflects a lot of my 'not-so-scientific' findings. Just wanted to share. Cheers!!
Thanks man! One of the things I love about your channel is how much I can learn about optics. The anamorphic game really exercises that muscle. DOF adapters too.
Ha! I was waiting to see if someone would comment. I shouldn't be surprised it was you! The lighting is absolutely the same, but I'm testing a new camera and the colors are mindblowing. More on that subject soon! :P
Thank you for this video, from a Canon EF camera user, which in this case includes the Canon C100... I have a definite desire to begin shooting with anamorphic lenses -have learned quite a lot about anamorphics from this channel, and some info from others as well... but has been frustrating to see Canon left out of this anamorphic mini revolution going on...I will take up the advice from this video, and will email Sirui requesting the possibility of a Canon EF budget anamorphic cine lens... for the most part I know such an email will mostly be another " drop in the bucket " for such companies.HOWEVER especially for the many users still out here, of EF cameras like the Canon C100 Mark 2, I definitely think that aomeone creating an anamorphic lens for EF would be a good seller
Amazing video as always! I was so disappointed when they didn't bring their 35mm out for Fuji mount, would love to see even a mount kit you could buy to convert it. Wonder if the mount from the 50mm would work even.
This is awesome man! I actually reached out to them before this video about ef anamorphic lenses. I don't know how reputable the news is, but they are in the process of developing ef anamorphic lenses!!! Well, that's what they told me anyways! #excited
8 am bummed out... Bough it for the gh5 to put it on a speedbosster and did not know it was efm. Good bye wiede angle. It is just too narrow at 35mm on mft. Almost a zoom, when it should be super wide. We need ef now!
You could make an adapter that focused the image of the MFT lens onto a ground glass plate (or fiber optic relay plate) and then use a macro EF lens to image the plate... it would "work" but would lose 3+ stops of light (or more) have a crappy image, be heavy, bulky and annoying... but it could be done... Not that I would WANT to... definitely more of a stunt than a practical idea... (if you use a fiber optic relay plate you should have much better light throughput but worse resolution....) that's a big "nope" for me! I'll just wait on a proper lens! :D
Ef wold be perfect, almost universal, you can put it on a speedbooster x71 and would work in a mft sensor rigth? super35 image and anamorphic 1.33 is the cheapest FF (almost) image. 1.2% crop factor if my calculations are rigth. 50mm x 1.9 (mft crop) = 95 x 0.71 (speedbooster) = 67.4 / 1.33 (anamorphic compression) = 50.6 mm Plus the stop of ligth. im theorizing about this and dont undestand why they choose not to make a EF mount. Saludos desde uruguay!
Great explanation! This is the first time I've felt like I've ever understood this. I just saw Vazen announced a full-frame 1.8x anamorphic lens with switchable EF and PL mounts. They are about atlas orion anamorphic prices at $8000 but I guess that's still progress. If Sirui could do the same and keep the prices low I'm sure they would sell like hotcakes.
another thing worth noting about the FD adapters that they add a crop, of around 1.3x. So in case your cam has a crop of Canon APS-C 1.6x, you suddenly have a crop like MFT. But a lens that corrects MFT to EF... well I kinda think that would become "a bit" longer even
Can you start a petition and add it via a link to this video. I would happily sign it. That way you can get the credit and we all get the lenses we want 😀
Hey man thank you for your insights! I would love to get a good quality anamorphic lens/adapter look on a Canon EOS R body. (For a reasonable price) are they any lenses or adapters you can recommend that cover a full frame? EF or RF.. I would love to use an adapter on FD lenses as well.. thank you!!
could you compare a Full Frame vrs 4/3rds with 1.33 and 2.0 anamophics. It would be interesting to see the range width differences between those variables
None would have autofocus to begin with. Sirui said they're releasing the lenses in RF mount soon, but in the meantime you have to rely on MTF Services to make the conversion. See my video about it: th-cam.com/video/UFI-Ri6JvsM/w-d-xo.html

Hello Tito, sorry for my poor English. Is possible to put the anamorphic Sirui on the Bmpcc 6k? if there was an adapter that places the lens inward, would you have focus problems?

Tito I was looking at Lens Mod video last night with Duclos Lenses. He was converting Leica Rs and was saying EF mount in cameras with no mirror for eyepiece (bmpcc6k etc) it's easier to adapt mirrorless
Easier, yes. But this example, impossible. For example, many Contax lenses have a lever in the back that would hit the mirror on a DSLR, but won't be an issue on mirrorless. So adapting is easier.

Tito, couple Gh5 users wondering if the 35mm will work on a speedbooster since the canon ring adapter is coming out. What are your thoughts?
The Canon Ring adapter is for EF-M, not EF. So, nope. No space anywhere for a speedbooster.
