You know *exactly* what you were doing when having the climax of the story relate to the good boy. You got us all, hook line and sinker.
Violently slaughter and disembowl as many human characters as you like, doesn’t bother me, but so long as the good boy lives.

    • @KenzieSFT

There's an old werewolf movie that does that trick. The werewolf even throws the golden retriever out a window and you assume he's killed or injured. Then a few moments later he's in the doorway, pissed off. The last 10 minutes of the movie is the werewolf desperately trying to escape from the dog.

“On the third morning of the wanderers’ stay in Ulthar, Menes could not find his kitten; and as he sobbed aloud in the market-place certain villagers told him of the old man and his wife, and of sounds heard in the night. And when he heard these things his sobbing gave place to meditation, and finally to prayer.”
So as a freshening wind springs up from the East and blows the rain away and the stars come out one by one, pop, pop, pop, pop they go; we wish everyone a bright and happy evening take care and for those of you for whom it isn’t already far too late, stay sane.

love the last line - oh, so true. but don’t all of us get a touch of insanity on our way through? some get lost, some go on in peace, but no longer childlike, and some of us still wander in and out, in and out. . . 🌷🌱

Well done Ian. Without hyperbole, one of the best short tales I’ve heard. I feel as though your talent grows more and more with each passing year, not just as a narrator but as an author. Your writing, despite the often macabre or even haunting content, is often suffused with an unspeakable warmth. In its characters and their wholesome self awareness or humble bravery, or in the descriptions and prose or period accuracy. It’s all so inviting and soothing and best of all transportive.
I loved this story last night, listening on headphones as we put our daughter to sleep, bathed in darkness. I hope to hear more of your works soon.

Great job, Ian! A very action-packed story! Like many others who’ve commented here, I was greatly relieved that the dog and the other animals were safe. But now I really must ask you to please do something to calm down this annoying hurricane that seems to have been named after you! My daughter has friends from the UK who went to Disney World on a long-awaited vacation, and now they can’t even leave! The storm is supposed to move on up towards Atlanta, where my daughter and I live. So some weather control would truly be appreciated! (Only kidding, of course! I know you’re probably not a wizard, though perhaps I could be wrong?!) Anyway, thanks once again for a fantastic tale! I’m greatly looking forward to more!!😬❤

Hi Ian! You’ve out done yourself! What a talented guy you are. A word of warning tho... caffeine can be deadly for dogs. Keep the Boss mug for him but skip the tea.
What a tale man. You really had me going. I’ve sent this to a bunch of appreciative folks for them to enjoy. Thanks

Thank you! As for the tea-drinking dog thing, that's a reference to my mother and her dog... She's terrible!

Based on his previous works I know this is gonna be good! Amazing artwork too, here we go, whooo!
That did not disappoint! It could have come straight out of Weird Tales.

This is my first time hearing this particular tale, and it is captivating. Celtic lore has long fascinated me, possibly in part due to my ancestry, and I hope more such spooky material will be forthcoming.
I wonder whether the horrible apparition in "Lovely Molly", or the demoniac being in "Horsehead" [ameritricious trainwreck of a movie in my opinion] are Nuckelavee inspired.
