    Wanted to mention some things I didn't hear you say regarding functionality. I just activated my system this week, btw....
    1. Once you activate monitoring you get 3 days (72 hours...exactly) in a sort of practice mode. So if you trip an alarm or something, SimpliSafe isn't going to bother you. After that period, any alarms are going to be treated as real-world.
    2. By default, all sensors are set on a 30-second delay before they trigger an alarm. You CAN change this. You can individually set motion and entry sensors to "instant trigger" at will via the app, the web, or the keypad and they will set off the alarm the second they catch something or are tripped.
    3. On SS3 systems (the latest version for 2018), both the keypad and key fobs have panic buttons (so not sure why they sell you ANOTHER panic button as an option). Maybe this was the case with older versions...don't know. You can customize panic behavior on each device. So you can have the panic on the keypad be medical or fire, and the key fob can be alarm, for instance.

    • @zolartan4442
      @zolartan4442 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The separate panic but is to place close to sleeping areas or other places. Through their website you can change the function of the panic buttons to be Fire Alarm or Medical Alert buttons. MA mode would be great for elderly or disabled folks.

    I actually like the 30sec delay! For every false alarm they charge in my city. If an intruder wanted you to cut the alarm off within the 30sec window you'd just enter your duress code, that's exactly what it's for!

    • @jasonhans864

      That is true for every city I have ever lived in so I think that is pretty standard for sure.

    I've had Simplisafe for 3.5 years. I really like this system. I just upgraded from Gen. 2 to Gen. 3 and Simplisafe gave me a 40% discount to upgrade and return the old system. What was going to be over $500 was $321. I consider that a bargain. I've never had a false alarm other than what I accidently set off...but forgetting the alarm system was on and going outside, thereby activating the alarm. I immediately called the dispatch center and stopped the dispatch - no harm done. Love this system. By the way, the new key fob works just like the old one except you have 4 buttons instead of 3: off, home, away and panic. The old system fob had off, away and panic buttons. The new fob works just like the old one except you have 4 buttons instead of 3: off, home, away and panic. You don't have to worry about anyone getting a hold of your fob unless you are careless with it. I never lay my fob , house or car keys anywhere they can be stolen; even at night they go with me to the bedroom where I have a firearm at hand and would have it ready before anyone could get to the fob or my keys.

    I like my Simplisafe system. The thing about notification lag isn't a big deal in my mind. You can set the ALARM to trigger immediately or to set it to any delay you want. I think the startle effect of the siren going off is probably the most important feature of any alarm system. Most "Bad Guys" will panic when they hear it. Smart burglars aren't that common and frankly smart criminals are not likely to be doing a burglary. We have more to worry about the dopes with very little impulse control who are likely to walk through a door because it's unlocked out of curiosity. Even a FAST response time for the police to arrive is 15 - 20 minutes so the LOCAL response to the local alarm is what will keep you safe.
    I have the auxiliary alarm because I worry about the the alarm going off when I'm in the shower without my hearing aid. I worry about the headline in the paper reading, "Fat, Wet, Naked Veteran, shot by police in own home!" I have the 25 dollar/month monitoring. It's still cheaper than almost everything else and offers cloud storage for the SimpliSafe video cameras and the SS Video doorbell.

    30 seconds is just about the right amount of time for me to grab my Sig Sauer 9mm. No need to wait for the police.

  • @nickl8830
    @nickl8830 6 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    That 30-second delay is the same for ADT and likely others. The reason for that delay is to reduce false alarms or at least from what I've been told. If a burglar breaks into your house, my suggestion before that were to occur is get a Gun or a Shotty. If they get into your house and you have a shotgun with "double buck" rounds. I guarantee when they hear it cocked they will either be dead or know they really f'd up. The alarm system in such a case like that; could serve as a tool for logging the events. You are a Brit here in the US with a second amendment right. Make good use of it. Also excellent video - thanks

      I live in Boise, Idaho and the City requires that all commercial and personal alarms to have a :45 second disarm timer. They also require all audible alarms to 'go quiet' at 14:59 minutes. They also require a 2-call backup system. In other words, the City requires the monitoring company to call a minimum of (2) contacts before dispatching police. I realize why the City imposed these requirements, but it seriously wastes too much time. The only exception are 'panic' or 'home invasion' alarms, which can be activated immediately.

      SimplySafe stinks because you need a subscription to get any ALARM notifications on your phone even with WiFi. Ring does do it. But ring motion sensors will stop working correctly. And people will not check that they work after time. 5 brand new ring motion sensors would not sense me 2 feet away! The specialist over the phone had me do various resets with no resolution. I returned it all for refund

    In my opinion, I think 30 seconds until the police are dispatched is a little long. We, meaning my parents and I, since I live with my parents still because I am in school getting my degree, have an alarm system by DSC. This alarm was already installed in the house, from the previous owners. We have accidentally set off the alarm a couple times, and it takes at least 10 seconds for them to call us. The alarm is also cellular, instead of landline, which makes sense, because most systems are that way at least I think.

I want the ALARM to sound IMMEDIATELY, seconds count, that and OUR "RIGHT" to SELF PROTECTION (I am a REGISTERED HOLDER OF a...GUN, SORRY IF THAT SCARES many of you). I have spoken WITH the County Sheriffs and THEY AGREED with me.If I'm in bed and ANYONE opens a door/window.. Hiding it away in a cabinet is a bad idea. Base station is not particularly loud in its siren mode. a roommate left late at night without disengaging the home mode... I was asleep and the siren didn't wake me. Didn't wake the kiddo in the house either. It does make me question if the siren tone was triggered. Police ended up being called because DnD on my phone was misconfigured and didn't let SS call get through(I saw them in the morning). SO the alarm did legitimately trigger.

    Was burglarlized 2 weeks ago. I live in a great area, so it will happen to you at some point. They did it in broad daylight, too, and worked fast, so clearly they are experienced burglars. This will not happen again. I bought a system for myself and one for my mom. Some dipshit in the comments mentioned they dumped the NRA, too, so that's another reason to buy this system.

      No it's not required, it uses it as a backup to the cellular network. If there's no cell reception at your cabin either it might not be able to reach the monitoring service, but the siren would still work.

    • @rick15666
      @rick15666 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rodger Booth this statement is much different than your previous one, which claimed the sensors don’t work at that temperature. Now, they do work, but they lose 1 foot of range. I have a much better time believing the accuracy drops about a foot at low temperatures, than I do believing they stop working...

    • @rodgerbooth1064
      @rodgerbooth1064 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to understand the English language and how to read. What I said was that with the temperature drop down to 0 degrees the detection distance was reduced to 1 foot from the advertised 40 foot detection range distance and I would imagine that they will not work at all below that temp. In short! when the room temp drops they do not work as advertised! You want to depend on them then you go right ahead! PLEASE STOP BOTHERING ME!!!@@rick15666

      I just ran into this while setting up my system. I strongly suggest using the supplied screws to hold the sensors in place as a curved surface really minimizes the amount of double face tape that affixes the sensor to the trim. I hated to screw into my oak trim, but I think it's a small price to play to ensure the sensor will stay in place.

      @Roberta W I am pleasantly surprised at how well SImpliSafe's sensors work. We've had some false alarms, where my kid forgot to lock the top of our dutch door and the door swung open with the alarm armed, or when my mother in law didn't realize the system was armed and opened the door. I received phone calls, if I don't get to the phone, my wife gets the call...It's happened a few times and SimpliSafe seems to be right on top of it. I installed 8 cameras inside/outside the house as well. If the alarm goes off, I immediately look at the cameras (through the app on my phone) and know immediately if there is a problem or not when I get the call from SImpliSafe. I've had their service for a few months now and I'm quite happy with them.

    • @tonyr2360
      @tonyr2360 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Roberta W I bought the cameras from Z-Modo, not from SS. We pay the $25/month for monitoring. I don't know anything about the sim card. I have no cell phone service at my house without hooking up a cell phone booster. AT&T, Verizon, nothing works without a booster. (gotta love cell phone companies. I live in a rural area, only 4 miles from the center of the city and have no service!!) I own a Verizon booster as all of our phones are Verizon and have not had any issues with SS. Seems to work just fine....

    You have a code to put in for a silent alarm if they grab you and tell u to disarm it so your wrong there. Also all alarm companies wait to call the police u have a window to call and cancel and for them to call you I had ADT AND ALERT 360 they do the same. Also you have the option of allowing them to use your camera in a alarm event and if they see anything wrong they call the police right away so your wrong there seems to me before you review something you would get the facts first
