      I told @mrmickmars this very thing when I met him in Denver in 2014. He never came out and told me who he was. He told me his name was Bob Deal. I hadn't read @Nikkisixxpixx 's books yet so I didn't know I was staring Mick in the face. I told him that in felt Motley sold me out when they went back to the original lineup. @johncorabiofficial

      It wasn't motley Crue lol ....Crue fans were Crue fans for a reason ....When you completely change the sound and singer you can understand why they lost interest...It's like You go to buy pizza and get served cake...Well I ordered pizza? Well this is still pizza ...? Anyway I agree a new name would have helped because a new fan base is what they needed ..

      @Jax Teller For a long time, I thought the same as you. I loved Motley Crue's original lineup and thought I was a loyal fan by hating the single when it came out and ignoring the band till Vince came back.
      In truth, I never even listened to the single because it didn't sound like Motley Crue nor did I get the album. Now, many many lifetimes later.....I've matured past the blind fan stage, listened to the album, and find a lot to enjoy in it but it isn't Motley Crue. The Crue should have changed their name for this and toured as a new band. It failed because a lot of fans were like me which is long time Crue fans expecting to hear Vince's imperfect vocals which are perfect for the band Motley Crue. The let down was too great. The songs have to be written with Vince in mind and sung by Vince, if you are putting a Crue tag on it, which is what happened on Saints of Los Angeles. Written by Nikki Sixx and James Michael (Sixx AM and everyone else lol), the album was presented to the rest of Motley who decided to record it and once again Motley Crue began to rise. It gained a following because Vince was singing, no offense to Corabi and all his talents. In fact, the only person that Motley Crue doesn't need is Tommy Lee and that has been proven. He is a great drummer but their are others who can emulate his style. We've discussed Vince. Nikki is, well, Nikki lol. As for Mick Mars, although there are guitarists who can imitate his style and play the songs just like him, they can't WRITE riffs like he does.
      Sorry so long, but, I love pontificating on the Crue.

      Why wouldn't they call it Motley Crue? They still had 3 out of the 4 original members. Crue was already an established name and brand. If they called it something else they would have had to start over from scratch.

      They had just signed a $25M dollar contract with Elektra Records. I very like "Dr Feelgood" and the rest of the stuffs but the MC 1994's album was more dramatic, louder, perfect songwriting and sonicly superior than all the rest of the discography ! for me John Corabi is one of the best singer of the 90's and still to this day !! Vince was MC but this 1994 era is for me the best, no offense to the MC with Vince Neil of course ! Maybe the band could have changed the name of the band....

    This lineup runs laps around the Vince Neil version. Corabi brought a whole new dimension to the Crüe sound, & in my opinion, the classic stuff sounded exponentially better. Corabi's a singer/writer/musician. Vince is just a frontman. A shame that this version of the band wasn't given a fair chance.

    • @johnbruce4003
      @johnbruce4003 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not given a fair chance? The label hated it, radio stations hated it, the fans hated it. MTV hated it. The Tour absolutely tanked. You can't say Vince was just a frontman when he was the biggest reason for their success in the early days. Ego drove Motley Crue apart, and John Corabi destroyed what remained. You can like that record, I do too. It just wasn't Motley Crue. The few who heard that record said it sounded great. Damn well better, it cost $3M to produce. Better sound freaking fantastic! That's about $7M in today's money.

    Man, what a fucking bruiser of a show!!! This was a fantastic album and a fantastic version of the band even if didn't resemble the old Crue very much. It's ridiculous and sad than Nikki keeps shitting all over it (and Corabi). Hell, even Vince is on good terms with Corabi. They should have taken the same approach as Sabbath w/Dio and brought it back under a different name and kept it going. The world wasn't ready for this album in '94 but we could desperately use some more like it in 2021.

    • @DigThis
      @DigThis  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Nikki's a legendary dickhead. Everybody in the band aside from him loves John. Tommy didn't even want to continue the band without John, but stuck it out for one album. That's why he quit after the Gen Swine album. He said with Corabi, everything was new and fresh. But when they brought Vince back, it became old and stale.

    • @Downhuman74
      @Downhuman74 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@DigThis Yeah, I was aware of the history with Tommy quitting because Vince was brought back. I saw them twice on the Gen Swine tour but the vibe was super weird. It didn't feel right at all. The beef between Tommy and Vince was still a thing when they tried to re-unite the band for the Resurrecting Motley Crue doc in 2005. And it was even still a long time after that before they were on something approaching good terms again. It's also super weird/sad/hilarious/infuriating that they completely left all of that out for The Dirt movie and pretended that everything was A-OK immediately after Vince rejoined.

    Interesting takes guys, it seems that many fans to this day prefer the “party train wreck” aspect to MC much like most HS n College students go to football games to socialize and party vs paying attention to play by plays. What is in display here with this lineup is a complete band with all members writing and performing at the top of their musical abilities. This however jars the majority of the fan base which only hungers to consume the circus of musical and visual chaos that a Vince Neil fronted MC dynamic brings. In short Corabi MC version is a serious legit hard rock band and Vince Neil is a party rock band. Most “fans” want the party band. Awesome convo!

    After the 6 times Platinum Dr Feelgood album, this 1994 Motley album went gold, Generation Swine went gold, New Tattoo didn't sell at all, and Saint's of Los Angeles went gold. The future draw for Motley was the original 4 members. Personally, in hindsight, I think if they would have called this album something else, maybe M***** Crue or Motley, C***...using slightly different words, similar to how people called Van Halen, Van Hagar...maybe, just maybe. But, who knows. For the most part, this music died with grunge.

      I agree with everything you said 100%. The Corabi album is a great early 90s album. It has a grunge-meets-Aerosmith feel to it. But it's not a Motley album. Vince is not a technically proficient singer, but he has a unique voice that fits the Motley sound perfectly. You know it's him when you hear him. Vince's solo albums sound more like Motley than the Corabi album. What made Motley work was Nikki writing lyrics over Mick's riffs, with Vince's singing. I agree Tommy is the most dispensable member of the Crue. Nikkie even said so when Tommy was threatening to leave a 2nd time some years ago. No disrespect to the guy. He's a great drummer and a great performer. But I didn't mind the alternative lineup with Sam Maloney on the drums. In fact, I thought she was cute as hell and added a sense of freshness to Motley which at the time seemed like a dinosaur band. I saw the "New Tattoo" tour in 2000 and thought it was the closest they had been to being the real Crue since the "Dr. Feelgood" tour. I do kind of wish they had kept Corabi as a 2nd guitarist and part-time singer. Then they could do songs from the 1994 album live while Vince gives his voice a rest. In fact, I would have no problem with a Crue lineup of Nikki, Vince, Mick, John, Sam, and the background singers. It's also obvious "Saints of Los Angeles" is really a Sixx AM album with Vince on the vocals. DJ Ashba recently admitted he played all the rhythm guitar parts on that and that Mick was in the hospital at the time.

    Great lineup, and I loved John Corabi when he was in The Scream. This should had gone by a diffrent band name. This album had rich musical substance, and let's face it- all things Crue by Vince after Theatre Of Pain is a cheap whore that got lucky.

    The Corabi MC is so much heavier and better than anything VN did. Neils voice was and still is awful. He was always the weakest link. You can hear how great these songs are live with a real singer. This is MC at their best.

    This certainly seems at least as good a show as they ever did with Vince.
    Except maybe the very early vids you can find on here from the starwood and so on, before they made it big.
    But this is great in a different way. It's just pure, it's more musical. It's more intelligent
    And of course, Corabi is a better singer than Vince ever was, especially now. See the vids of Corabi on his motley album tour from a couple years back, he's still just as good as he was here, if not better.
    And my oh my, what a fucking stomping album this was as well.

    In the beginning, i did not like Coraby's vocals due to very different than Neil's..the 2nd times...Motley Crue's Self Title album + mini album Quaternary..they began my favorite albums of The Crue after Decade of Decadence..
    MOTLEY CRUE is still my alltime favorite Rock/Metal Bands since 91-end of time.❤❤❤❤❤❤

    This was the last time they've had some sort of artistic relevance, to me. A great album, still incomprehensibly overlooked. After this era everything went to shit. Nowadays they are a joke. Should have called it quits 20 years ago. And for good.

    If they had changed the name of the band for another, this lineup in my opinion was still making music, my opinion their mistake was to be called Motley Crue

    If they'd put Crue to bed (until the eventual reunion) and called this band Brides Of Destruction, I think it would've been huge! Great album, absolutely solid, but NOT Motley Crue. Crab smoked Vince.

    If anyone wants to know why this lineup didn’t work, it’s because for the first time in Motley Crue’s career, they lost money. Say what you want about Vince Neil, but he was a rock star. John Corabi never will be.

  • @Skoora
    @Skoora 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For better or worse it’s only Crue with Vince. This sounds like a decent rock band but with Vince Neil it sounds like fuckin’ Motley Crue. Same with Anthrax and John Bush/Joey. Decent band with Bush but only Anthrax with Joey. Once you get used to or immediately love a voice with unique character like Vince, Joey or even Axl Rose it’s just too big a part of the sound of the band. Corabi and Bush while having solid, traditional rock voices with not a large range are to me cookie cutter and a dime a dozen. Especially in the 90’s.

    • @TheNewBerser
      @TheNewBerser 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anthrax sounded great with Joey, John or Dan, and that's because unlike the fucking douchebag Crue has for a frontman. Those 3 mentioned did respect the fans enough to stay in shape, take care of their voice, and be able to put a performance with the band.
      Dude you can't keep a straight face and tell me that crue sounded well on these last couple of years. Corabbi is almost the same age as Vince and he can still fucking hit the high notes he hit in the 90's without running out of breath.
