Northern CA resident here. I was lucky to get missed by the fires but know many who were devastated by them like yourself. I've heard a few stories like this of people replacing lost possessions and donating or offering help to complete strangers, it's what we need more of in this world. Best wishes to you in your rebuild!
TBH i don't think that line is correct. Think about all the depressed mussicians, painters and poets that have made master class art. I mean just a hand full are Kurt Cobain, Vincent van Gogh, Syd Barrett, Cody from Cody's Lab and Thom York.
Ohhh now i see where your mushroom inspiration came from. This guy got me into it too a few years back, i use my own technique to get sterile samples for growing mycelium. I made a cheap glove box, then i just dip the knife in alcohol without wiping it on anything, getting sterile stuff from inside the stem of course. The alcohol is normally dried off because it kills it i believe, but i found that it doesnt kill it completely. This way you risk less contaminants, of which i had o issues with. just drop it on some agar and youre good. There's sterile rye berry jars for sale online. I grew pink oyster mushrooms that way. Pleurotus djamor, probably spelling that wrong.
I remember this changing my perspective in 2018. Coming back to visit this 6 years later, highly needed to rejuvenate all the knowledge and wisdom. These conversations are powerful.
This dude is extremely well spoken and able to communicate long and complex stories in a way that is impressive for anyone, let alone someone who used to have a stutter. Very cool.
hes not well spoken. he uses a lot of words incorrectly, out of order and contradicts himself may times over in his stories. The stories aren't complex. There's really nothing here. He tries to make them complex so you don't realize there is no real story here because he hasn't accomplished anything. He blames his unnecessary use of vocabulary as a way to help with his stutter
Been taking Lions Mane for one week. I discovered a benign brain tumor 4 years ago. It has caused Neuro degenerative and cognitive problems. This podcast quite literally saved my life. I started taking Lion's mane and wow. I feel like before my first seizure. At the 44 minute mark or so Paul talks about it. I may have beaten this horrible albatross on my brain. As I type I tear up. I'm a 30 year old man and I thought I was doomed forever to a life of unhappiness. Thank you for spreading your wisdom. As a JRE fan I'd love to talk about it sometime if given an invite with Paul even though I'm an average guy. Thank you to JRE for bringing these guests on. This one without any sort of exaggeration could have saved my life. I suffer from brain tumor, memory issues, GAD,PTSD (non combat),and epilepsy. All of these things are invisible and I suffer because I look pretty normal and even healthy for 30 years old. This man is a good man and I learned a lot from this podcast. Thank you Paul, Thank you Joe.
adamgm84 Still have some partial seizures but overall a healthy mix of Lion's Mane, GABA, L-tryptophan, cannabis, exercise 2 to 3x a week and a diet with proteins and veggies seems to be the key for me. Still have day to day issues but this allows me to manually manipulate my neurotransmitters. Hope this helps anyone that's at their bottom from a Neuro degenerative condition. It's possible to recover. I'm no doctor just a good student and willing guinea pig to myself.
Billig Jones i use Host Defence drops and capsules. The immune support which has about 10 different mushroom varieties, Amazing and supports Paul's work !
1:45:00 Portobello mushrooms contain a large amount of agaritine, which can be made in to hydrazine. Two parts hydrazine mixed with one part NH4NO3, creates a powerful chemical explosive, making this a National Security Issue. Paul’s hint was when he referred to this as an “Explosive Issue”.
While there is some truth to the chemical properties mentioned, the statement exaggerates the practicality and immediacy of turning portobello mushrooms into a security threat: Portobello mushrooms, like many other types of mushrooms, do contain a naturally occurring compound called agaritine. Agaritine is a hydrazine derivative, which means it has a chemical structure related to hydrazine. Hydrazine Production: Hydrazine is a compound that can be synthesized and has uses in industrial and aerospace applications. However, converting agaritine from mushrooms into hydrazine is not a straightforward or practical process for individuals without advanced chemical knowledge and equipment. Chemical Explosives: Hydrazine can be used as a component in various chemical reactions, including those that produce explosives. Ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3) is also known to be used in explosives. However, the specific mixture and process to create a powerful explosive from these chemicals require precise conditions and handling, making it highly dangerous and impractical for casual or unauthorized use. It is more likely that he is referring to agartine’s reputation as being carcinogenic as he has been on record stating such concerns.
Joe's face at 38:46 cracks me up every single time, just the way Paul is deep into explaining his story and it just silently cuts to Joe's flabbergasted expression lmao
IKR just watched it and still trying to wrap my brain around some of the shit!!! Think I found some shrooms in my backyard so been doing a shit ton(no pun intended) and came across this and man glad I watched!!! Big fan of the JRE as it is hope Joe don’t get censored over there but pretty sure he won’t let that happen I hope!!!
As a physician…. It’s grotesque that we haven’t already been using this for patients. Our current system is failing people. never in my life did i think i would listen to another human talk about mushrooms for 2 hours. I was glued to the screen paul seems like a fungi. he reallly grew on me!
I would just like to remind everyone that Paul also helped isolate a certain variety of oyster mushrooms that actually *eat waste petroleum/oil and metabolize them into harmless compounds.* When he says fungi can save the world, he's entirely serious. I only wish he was a household name. Him saving the bees would be a greater accomplishment than Edison's improved lightbulb. People could eat dinner by candlelight. People can starve to death with the lights on though.

I love JRE Podcasts, but this, this right here is what I live for. These are the interviews that keep me coming back. Now excuse me while I go lay down for awhile.

@@eachday9538 I heard they had to do it ten times... . The story of stuttering was fake.. What happened is that after 9 takes Joe beat the crap AND the stuttering out of Paul....
I noticed that also. I think there are studies that when people are using a lot of effort in their thought process they blink less. Their pupils dilate larger as well when their brain is putting out the effort. However, it is not clear how much effort he is actually manufacturing because many of these points have been made by him over the years in various forums, etc.
@@silverhopeful it probably has more to do with the fact that during active thought/conversation you are rapidly moving your eyes which keeps them moist and that's why you have less need to blink.

Started microdosing after i watched this podcast 2 years ago. Now i also take a a variety of mushrooms. Helped me quit smoking weed, helped me manage my autism and so much more. Thanks Paul! Your insights changed my life for the good!
Have you tried Lions Mane? I read that it had many positive effects and was consider trying it until i came across a subreddit named LionsManeRecovery, where people describe extreme depression and anxiety after daily usage of supplements containing LM. Thanks in advice for the feedback!

One of my absolutely favorite JRE episodes. Paul Stamets is effortlessly intelligent and expressive about mushrooms in a wide variety of topics about the subject. I've learned so much in such a short amount of time. Joe must have Paul on again soon !
Amazing that someone who has a stutter can speak so eloquently, no Ums, no pauses, amazing vocabulary. This man knows things we don’t and he’s out here to share them. It’s clear. He could be making millions and millions and be monopolising this medicinal mushroom market. However, he’s shared HOW to extract it yourself, he’s allowed you to grow it. This man is here to help us, we should listen to him
tstoneami It’s his business and at the end of the day he needs to make sure it’s sustainable. When a guest is doing a good job he lets them sustain it by sometimes I feel he will cut people off but I don’t think it’s with the malicious intent some people think he does it with.
This is amazing. I realize this podcast is several years old, but I just watched it for the first time and it solidified something for me that I’ve been wondering about for a couple of years but only just now has become absolutely concrete for me while watching this episode. A couple of years ago, I tried psilocybin for the first time. I consumed three full albino penis envy mushrooms one day while I was at home. My experience lasted about seven hours, but peaked at around three hours in. One of the most profound experiences I had during that session was while I was sitting on the toilet, looking down at my tile floor, I observed this extremely vivid, yet shifting, elaborate black and gray filigree pattern on the tile floor. My tiles were plain white with no patterns whatsoever yet I could see this elaborate smoky black filigree pattern all over the tile floor. I also noticed a dark gray shifting smoke that seemed to be, coming up from under the bathroom door as I looked toward the door while I was sitting on the toilet. In the moment I couldn’t figure out how or why I was seeing this hallucination, or at least what I thought at the time was a hallucination. Another thing I experienced while sitting at my dining room table looking down at my hardwood floors, it seemed as if the surface of my hardwood floors was merely the surface of a vast and deep pool. I felt like if I were to dive into the floor I could have literally dove through the floor swimming down into the floor. It’s very hard to describe, but basically I could see that the floor had extreme depth and I had never seen anything like that before. The next day when I was completely sober and sitting on the toilet again, I looked down at the floor and remembered the experience and then decided to get down on my hands and knees with my face really close to the floor, and I noticed something profound. The tiles of my floor had an ever so slight texture that I had never noticed before and upon extremely close examination, I discovered that there was a slight buildup of dirt in the crevices and valleys of the texture on the surface of the tiles because I hadn’t mopped the floor in a couple of weeks. I noticed that the filigree pattern I was observing during my psilocybin experience was that I was observing the extremely light amount of dirt trapped in the tiny crevices of the barely noticeable texture of the tile floor. I understood at that moment that what was happening during my trip was that my visual, acuity and depth perception were enhanced significantly, that I was literally seeing like I had Superman vision. Upon getting down really close to the bottom of the bathroom door, I noticed that what I observed as shifting, dark gray smoke coming up from from under the bottom of the bathroom door was an imperceptible, minute amount of dust that had collected on the bottom, half of the surface of the door. During normal consciousness, this extremely light layer of dust was completely imperceptible, but while experiencing psilocybin, my vision was enhanced so significantly that the fine layer of dust stood out in stark contrast to the beige background of the door like a sore thumb. For the past couple of years, I’ve been wondering if the whole experience was just all inside my head, but after hearing the guest’s story about the gentleman who could hear the ants walking on the deck during his experience, absolutely confirmed for me that what I experienced was real visual acuity enhancement. It was an amazing experience.
I don't think I've witness Joe being so silent in ANY other interview as he is listening to Paul talk. It's fascinating stuff and a real solution to so many of the issues caused by man.
Just watched this and got into this subject for the first time, I don't yet know its extent, but I do already know this has changed my life forever. Thank you Paul.
For anyone wondering @1:44:00 when Paul comments oddly about the Portobello mushrooms. He is doing so because Portobello mushrooms contain hydrazine agaritine which is a known carcinogen that has caused cancer and tumor growth in the lab. This is a highly controversial subject and Paul probably does not want to create a media frenzy which could have a hugely negative affect on his livelihood and the publics perception of mushrooms. He is basically the voice for mycologists and has the potential to harm societies perception of mushrooms heavily. A lot of hard work goes into getting the legislation loose enough for scientists to really study these mycotoxins and more negative press could make it even harder..
Hmm not sure about this explanation. He's explained this many times before openly about various kinds of commercial mushrooms and there's no secret, just look it up. However this silent refrain is for me at least pointing towards something far more nefarious..
Dude this was absolutely mind blowing and mind opening. I think I'm addicted to joe rogan interviewing people like this. Psilocybin, extra dimensional experiences, neurogenesis... Damn thats some good shit.
You left out a part...struck by lightning. He blames the loss of the stutter on shrooms but here this whole time he just simply got it zapped out of him. They actually used to use electroshock therapy to cure stuttering back in the day. XD
@1:44:50 This conversation became tense but they handled it with such respect. Nice to see that there is a respectful way of refusing to answer a question and accepting Paul's wishes by Joe.

jelmervd2l Edgar Allan Poe, Chris Cornell, Marilyn Manson, etc.

Hey Kyle do you have an update on this experiment?
adamgm84 Still have some partial seizures but overall a healthy mix of Lion's Mane, GABA, L-tryptophan, cannabis, exercise 2 to 3x a week and a diet with proteins and veggies seems to be the key for me. Still have day to day issues but this allows me to manually manipulate my neurotransmitters. Hope this helps anyone that's at their bottom from a Neuro degenerative condition. It's possible to recover. I'm no doctor just a good student and willing guinea pig to myself.

“Explosive area of conversation”
Thanks for the explanation.
Yes it makes fuel for rockets and it should never be put in a citizens hands and it is a very serious threat because people use it in the wrong way
So a simple chemical reaction that every single chemist with a phd knows about is somehow "secret knowledge"?
While there is some truth to the chemical properties mentioned, the statement exaggerates the practicality and immediacy of turning portobello mushrooms into a security threat:
Portobello mushrooms, like many other types of mushrooms, do contain a naturally occurring compound called agaritine.

The reason you don't see him blink is because you are part of the same fungal network and he only blinks when you blink

However, it is not clear how much effort he is actually manufacturing because many of these points have been made by him over the years in various forums, etc.

Bring him back on the show! Think about everything he’s learned in 3 years!🙌😆
Exactly...

This dude is a literal wizard. I suspect he is at least 300 years old.
'Actually, its all just science. You see-' 'SILENCE, WIZARD!! GIVE ME YOUR SECRETS!!!'
LMFAO
Yeah, that story probably happened in 17th century.
In time he will become yoda
I'd say he is more like a Druid, Circle of Spores to be precise.

That shook me 😂
he actually meant that he himself is a genius because 2mins later he tells a story of how he outwitted his supergenius brother :D

What if eating the psychedelic mushrooms is how the mushrooms communicate with us.
duh
I mean...that's Terrence McKennas concept, which they mentioned.
Broken Wave I missed that.
Correct.
Fungus facilitates communication and harmony with everything that exists in nature
Talk about going DEEP! This coulda run 3hrs+ ez.. He's gotta get back on...

Agreed. Bring him on for a weekly series if possible Joe. Thanks!
No kiddin my mind has been blown after this imma take the Lions Main supplement that the guest referred too
Anyone find out about portabello?
curios about this as well....
Thanks to Paul I discovered that chaga tea feeding my plants will deter bugs and animals .
Also nutrition and micro diversity in garden. I also diluted in spray bottle
Honestly this was amazing. Probably the best episode this year.

I agree. Must anticipation for this to come out! I reccomeded paul on a pole from joe rogans website. Happy it got through! Paul is a local idle of mine!

Wait your here?
@Jam Pop Nation It makes no sense at all to leave such a comment under this podcast. Did you even watch it??
almost every jre tbh
Hands down the most captivating and interesting podcast I've heard.
Check out the Gus and Eddy podcast, it's up there too, 500k subscribers and they get sponsored to eat as much chicken as they can, I think Eddy can eat more, probably three or four whole chickens.

"You are telling me nature is not intelligent , and yet you are born of nature using the mind to conceive the concept to challenge the idea that nature is not intelligent, when you are part of nature?" -Paul Stamets
Absolutely beautifully said.
Eh, its a pretty weak arguement. I can say atoms are not intelligent, even though I'm entirely made of atoms. I can say the same for cells as well.
@@charlesgeorge9701 Fallacy of Composition
@@charlesgeorge9701 Why did atoms decide to hold together and make/continue to make you?
@@charlesgeorge9701 idk man, the fact that atoms and particles can come together and maintain physical reality seems pretty intelligent to me
not to mention that a collection of particles can come together and somehow activate concious experience, which is how we're even able to perceive these atoms

Paul: This is not a party drug. Let's be adults in the room.
Also Paul: I ate 20 grams and climbed a tree into an interdimensional lightning storm.
Different kind of party. It's just you plus nature minus other people, if you're serious. A dash of Pranayama breathing, a pinch of Solfeggios...then you're launching.
He didn't say _interdimensional._ He said he seen fractals and geometric shapes
I think that's exactly why...
I have seen this lightning storm the first time I took k at 13 years old first drug I did. I turned into a window and watched the most incredible storm go on outside. The effect it had on the grass was incredible.
I would love to party alone in a tree on shrooms with lightening!
Paul: Mushrooms are actually ancient ancestors of ours.
Joe: Think they've ever done DMT?
For some reason I think they're actually very diverse that they can get high off themselves (DMT)
Paul: they invented dmt
Joe: woah
We are fungi =).
DMT is a tryptamine molecule, very similar to serotonine human molecule in his structure
Hahaha fr tho
i stopped smokin weed to pass a drug test for work and had crazy dreams of driving and getting into horrible accidents and totaling my truck.
Bring Paul back on the podcast!!
This is the best conversation ever broadcasted on the internet.

@Alexander Supertramp Yes definitely as important as this one. Exposing the war on some drugs and bringing awareness to the orwellian dictators toolkit the NSA is using are both critical issues
well, you obviously haven't heard Joe Rogan and Alex Jones...
I personally love Forest Galant. I also really liked the Villanueve guy
Maybe, just maybe, the fungi he ate got into his system and its controlling all his decisions to make him dedicate his life to defend fungi and convince us humans to protect it . MAYBE
What do you mean into his system? It IS the system!
I had that kind of feeling on lsd. All of a sudden after 3 tabs one night I heard a voice say "Ohhhhhhh" "Now I am in control" "feels like I just walked into an empty store" and ive felt very different ever since, better. And lsd is made from some kind of fungus.
