Hi there... Thank you for the tips... great ideas... but what should I do about the water based ink when the ink bleeds though to the inside of the shirt? Is there a way of preventing this?

That happens sometimes, it just depends on how thick the material is. If you are printing on a table top- to prevent the ink from getting on the back of the shirt you should place a piece of parchment paper inside the shirt before printing. If you are using a press, it’s ok if there is ink on the platen when you lift the shirt. You can quickly go over that with a heat gun or just carefully load your next shirt onto the press and it will be fine.

How do you prevent ink buildup on back of screen and causing smudging

Make sure your screen is really tight. This will help make sure that you get a thin and even layer of ink. Use a screen rolling tool to push the cording back in: www.pigskinsandpigtails.com/a/screen-rolling-tool

I am having difficulty with getting the screen to release the shirt even using a screen printing station. What am I missing? TIA always love watching your videos!

Do you have any tack on your screen printing platen? This is what helps hold the shirt in place while you screen print with your press: www.pigskinsandpigtails.com/a/super-tack

What if your ink washes away in the wash even after setting it and waiting 48 hrs?

Your ink needs to dry completely before you heat set it. If your ink is washing out, either 1) it didn’t dry completely before heat pressing or 2) it wasn’t heat set properly. A few things to try: make sure your ink is dry, a heat gun or fan can help speed this up and make sure your heat press is accurate. I had an heat press that was telling me it was at 320 but when I used a temperature gun, it was actually not getting that hot. I hope that helps!

My ink is still bleeding. I’m only doing 7 shirts but for some reason after the 2nd or 3rd shirt too much ink is getting on the back of the screen.

And I’m not using a ton of ink or going over it too much. I even have a press. Do I just need a different ink that’s not water based? I was looking into your course but I don’t think I need all of the info included besides the type of ink maybe?

I use water based (Speedball) ink in these videos! You may need to check the tension of your screen (it should be tight like a drum).
