Shibden Hall was the home of Anne Lister in the early 19th century, Anne was the inspiration for the BBC drama series "Gentleman Jack". Other places worth visiting in Halifax are Bankfield Museum, Wainhouse Tower, Dean Clough, Halifax Minster and the Halifax Gibbet. A great real ale pub near Wainhouse Tower is the Big 6, it is in the middle of a row of terraced houses, it looks like two houses knocked through to make the pub.
James I love that Ryan asked you if he could go on your channel and you said yes and just allowed him to say what he wanted to 👏👏👏👏 fair play lad it was I resetting to hear his story respect 😊
Thank you, I wasn't ever going to do it, I've seen a few vloggers filming homeless people and I think the way they did it was a little exploitive but I think if I handle it sensitively it could really make more people aware
How very humbling was Ryan, makes you realise how lucky we all are and there are always people worse off than yourself! Fair play to you James, and yes what a lovely bloke Ryan was.All the best Ryan.
Some great countryside around Halifax James and beautiful stone houses on the hills , Sowerby bridge n Hebden bridge just up the Rd and surrounding areas have become a big tourist attraction now after the Happy Valley series

Hi James, we suggested you go to Halifax and I'm glad you did. We loved it and will definitely be going again soon. The piece hall is amazing and we love the Borough market. Next time you go to weatherspoin please get yourself some sachets of sauce for gods sake 😂😂
Lived here 20 years. It has tons of history and a tremendous lot of fantastic buildings. Since the Piece Hall was refurbished it’s become a vibrant place too. I’d have made you a brew, James 😌
The renovation of the Piece Hall and its use as a music venue has really saved Halifax and made it a popular place. The retail side of things is going downhill but that's mirrored in almost all of these sort of towns really. I watched your vlog on Sunday about Halifax.I was born in Halifax, many moons ago .The family moved when I was 14 , down to the midlands.I am now 74. 2019 ,I went back for a nostalgic visit to see what had changed, needless to say I was not very impressed.Fly overs ,streets and access to the places I knew were shut off.The largest mill there was Crossleys carpets, which are now flats. Also the old town bridge, called north bridge. That thing you mentioned, which you said was some sort of a folley is called wainhouse tower .So much as disappeared what I knew I decided that was my last visit.
You need to take Helen to the peace hall at Christmas, lovely atmosphere. I think Shibden hall was where they filmed Gentlemen Jack, but might be wrong. Have you been to Hebden Bridge, that’s nice place and a bit different. Very interesting as usual 👍
Have you been to Saltaire? Sir Titus Salt built this for his mill workers, whole village, chapel, alms houses etc. One of the mills is an art gallery David Hockney. Titus Salt has connections with Morley near Leeds 😊

Thanks for a lovely day out James. Its funny when we lived in the UK we never noticed how beautiful those buildings were , now we are older and you've took us to lots of different cities, we are in love with all the architecture of those amazing builds which will probably last for another 100 years. Nice touch talking to Ryan and I wish him all the best with his challenges. Life is not easy at the best of times but managing homelessness and mental health issues must be very tough, good on you Ryan for doing it so well. As a side note, is it just me that thought Brian Gilder (Paddy from TV show Shameless was behind you at 21:30?
Great video buddy! Halifax is a lovely town and puts Huddersfield (where we are) to shame! The Piece Hall is fabulous and as a music venue... brilliant, we've been a few times and tickets for two gigs there for this year so far!!! Adam from the band "War On Drugs' played last year, we were there and he said 'brilliant venue, the sound bounces around off the buildings'. The Victoria Theatre is also brilliant and has a host of top name acts every year. Need to watch your Liverpool Vlog - we're there for a belated weekend 60th for my partner, gig and all the usual tourist bits - love that place and the people, be so nice to go back! (would have uploaded a couple of pics from the War On Drugs gig at the Piece Hall to show you where they put the stage but not sure how you do that on here)

Not been to Halifax since about 2011 which was a Saturday night stopover after watching Sunderland play at Man City with my mates. I am always looking for places in the North I can go for a stopover with my wife and we have done all the obvious ones and some many times over and you have reminded me that Halifax is probably worth a cheeky trip. You’re a good man James, thanks for the tour of Halifax. I am heading to Yorkshire and the Lake District this week, but will maybe travel though Halifax on my way back.
James this was such an interesting video, lovely to see such a kind attitude toward Ryan. The Piece Hall looks an amazing place, especially for music, would love to attend a concert there, acoustics should be amazing 😊
I grew up around Halifax but left the area almost 40 years ago. I'm thinking seriously of going back as your video pulled my heart strings. The Peace hall used to be completely cobbled and hosted the regular Saturday market stalls, filling that area in the centre. The Halifax building society was the angular building and was officially opened by the Queen, who I saw as she arrived for the opening. The tower of Spite is Wainhouse Tower, story told when I was a kid that he built it to see over into his next door neighbours garden.... Not quite. We lived on Delph hill road, just beneath it and I've been up to the top on several occasions when they opened it to the public. Thank you so much for posting this. I particularly enjoy your solo vlogs, they are fab! ❤
Ey Up I am from Hull but always thought Halifax had a certain charm… I have a lot of family there and always enjoyed visiting Halifax Speedway at The Shay. Keep the videos coming I love em all.
sweet potato chips are hard to get crispy and not sure you would ever achieve it in a ridge monkey. we have just had roasted vegetables done in an air fryer and the sweet potato wedges had charring but the were still soggy
I did a little job in Halifax many years ago and the couple in this small holding kept Guinea Fowl and he complained about having to hunt for their eggs as they lay anywhere. 😅 I found we had all lived in Zambia around the same time. Small world. 😮
I went to Halifax a few years ago to the Victoria theatre. It was a little run down and since it had been lockdown, I was surprised it hadn’t been spruced up. I didn’t venture very far in the town but it wasn’t much different from any other town 😬
Great video, love Halifax and went to visit the Piece Hall and Shibden Hall a couple of years ago. Hebden Bridge worth a visit, lots of Happy Valley was filmed round there.
James, well done for remembering to film the blue plaque but next time, if Helen's not there to read it, could you try and get it in focus so that we can read it ourselves please?🤔😂😂
What a lovely guy Ryan was and a true reflection on the state of our country 😢 I know what you mean about 'posh voice' my wife with her broad Yorkshire accent sounds like the queen when we film anything 😂
Great tour! I only know of Halifax from "Last Tango," - it was really nice to see it IR(Y/T)L. Refreshing that the town seems to value & has maintained alot of the older aesthetic features. Really refreshing. How dear are you, James? Chatting with Ryan and letting him be heard. I'm glad he is housed and on helpful meds in this world - at least the US, Canada and UK world- where housing and other necessities are becoming luxuries. Ok, I better stop as I feel a massive rant coming on. Happy Valentine's Day to you & Hellie! ❤
Halifax was so much nicer than I had been led to believe here in the South, beautiful buildings and lovely back drop with the hills. thanks for showing me around James, David 👍

Absolutely gorgeous buildings in a similar style to Saltaire which is another beautiful little hidden gem
Use your air fryer for the chips and the fish in one shot. Saves on power and the sweet potato chips will be a lot better.
I thought the same!
Ditto 😉
Will do, but its a very small air fryer!
@@bythecurb 👍
I really struggle to get sweet potatoes fries crispy . Any thoughts ? Used air fryer and oven but they always turn out soggy

Thank you, glad you liked the video
Ey Up I am from Hull but always thought Halifax had a certain charm… I have a lot of family there and always enjoyed visiting Halifax Speedway at The Shay. Keep the videos coming I love em all.
Thank you 😊
sweet potato chips are hard to get crispy and not sure you would ever achieve it in a ridge monkey. we have just had roasted vegetables done in an air fryer and the sweet potato wedges had charring but the were still soggy
I did a little job in Halifax many years ago and the couple in this small holding kept Guinea Fowl and he complained about having to hunt for their eggs as they lay anywhere. 😅
I found we had all lived in Zambia around the same time.
Small world. 😮
I went to Halifax a few years ago to the Victoria theatre. It was a little run down and since it had been lockdown, I was surprised it hadn’t been spruced up. I didn’t venture very far in the town but it wasn’t much different from any other town 😬
Loved that trip and of course the great Debbie Harry would love to see her live ❤
Grew Up in halifax love it, sowerby is where i lived
Like a lot of northern towns and cities you can see the wealth that was once there.
love the content as per usual much love
Lock your door when you are in the van? That blue van parked very close to you. Stay safe. Loved the video and don't forget the sauce.
Great venue for open air gigs mate. You need to see the band James there. Great live act.
Losing my mind at the telly when you didn’t put the sweet potato chips in the air fryer 😂
Great video, love Halifax and went to visit the Piece Hall and Shibden Hall a couple of years ago. Hebden Bridge worth a visit, lots of Happy Valley was filmed round there.
Very much like Oxford, looks like they've spent a few bob on the place
James, well done for remembering to film the blue plaque but next time, if Helen's not there to read it, could you try and get it in focus so that we can read it ourselves please?🤔😂😂
What a lovely guy Ryan was and a true reflection on the state of our country 😢 I know what you mean about 'posh voice' my wife with her broad Yorkshire accent sounds like the queen when we film anything 😂
nice vid James
and good luck for Ryan
Great video again James .. I would imagine Buxton would be a place you might like to visit so give it a try.
Thank you, we're having a lovely valentines day. We're cooking a meal together 😊
Halifax was so much nicer than I had been led to believe here in the South, beautiful buildings and lovely back drop with the hills. thanks for showing me around James, David 👍
Thank you David
Funnily I was thinking of a tv program earlier Gentleman jack & it was filmed at Shibden Hall amongst other places 😊
