This program was a must for us art hitory students in Scotland in the late 80s and early 90s. We used to meet up religiously every week. It was on after Songs of Praise which gave me time for a ciggie before it started.
Whoever came up with the idea for these programs should be knighted, at the very least. Other TV programs come and go, but just like the antiques, it has stood the test of time.
I love Antiques Roadshow! One thing I do love about the US version though, is that when they show old issues like this, they also show updated valuations. It would be wonderful if the British one could do the same...
Ooh no, I definitely would wear the Roman glass bracelet! That should be shown to anyone interested! It’s too beautiful to be saved in a box. I suppose a museum is fine, but if it were mine, I’d wear until I die and then give it to my daughter.
You can imagine the many conversations about that watch saying : _"I bet it could be worth a couple of grand..."_ Only to find out it's worth *"£50,000" !*
A plate bucket? Wow, that is utilitarian and beautiful. 7.5-8k, 😂😂😂 maybe I can afford to have one made of bamboo. That would be cool, modern made utilitarian objects. A wooden punch bowl… I love this show.. I love art and housewares, furniture, jewelry, watches, stuff. I love handmade stuff. But I also like engineering and manufacturing as well. I don’t care for brutilism, yuck, or box shaped buildings..I much prefer all the fancy artsy nature reflective works.. be still my heart when I look at Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Baroque, but I also love whimsical work and unusual, colors on old styles… evolution ❤. 1:05:04 ooh this watch, the movement is stunning.. wow…watches are amazing bits of engineering, and the artistry is indescribable. So intricate, precise, accurate. I appreciate the workmanship. What talent and dedication to the craft often by a group working as a team. And of course their are the amazing beings who can make them alone… people are incredible when we follow our passions.
@lisathomas1522 Did you recognise Lord Cholmondeley? He is know as The Marquess of Cholmondeley and During Her majesty Queen Elizabeth II's reign his father and then he held the title of Lord Great Chamberlain. he was usually seen waiting for Her Majesty to arrive at Parliament where he carried something for her. he was always dressed in that gorgeous red Jacket. The title moved to one of the other families who hold the titles in turn, Currently he is working for his Majesty Charles III in a different post. He looks very young there. but if it was filmed in the 60's that explains it. He and his wife and children are great friend with the Prince and Princess of wales.
This is a compilation of all the short clips we've seen before! You would think since AR UK has been on TV for so long a time, that they would post other appraisals?
In some of their programs, they expose the valuation and then have an update by insert, either what it's worth current, either + or - , ⬆️ or ⬇️ 😊 or 😢.
@@maricelamarquezlopez9922 Yeah this was probably 1990 or early 90's at most, before the movies. One went for $150k ten years ago, no idea if the quality compared to this one though.
@@dawnstar81 depends on the condition though. The jacket is torn in places, the sellotape and the dust marks make it less valuable. Most people read books and that looks like it was used wand loved before the films hit the silver screen.
I would love to be an expert when people bring stuff in and it is worthless. I would tell them the most in depth story, all the details and then say, ok are you ready for the value? You may want to sit as after all of this, it may come as to much of a surprise. Wait until they all happy and excited sitting down Nothing
The Roman Glass bracelet is my all time favourite item I’ve ever seen on AR!🇨🇦👏👏👏💐🇨🇦
Agreed! Love the story! Makes me want to look for more Roman glass

Wonderful insight to the importance of this programme. Thanks for sharing.

Absolutely brilliant programme I could watch for many hours ..
I used to watch these shows with my Papa who was just as fascinated as I was with antiques. Now I am one.. enjoyed immensely
Bless you treasured memories ❤️
remembered with much fondness us all sitting around the box on a Sunday evening wondering we will be shown this week ...
Wow, imagine owning Lawrence of Arabia’s watch and not even knowing it! That’s wicked cool!
The watch discovery is the most stunning for me too. That's magic right there.
The Antiques Roadshow is a treasure on it's own. Thank you for the compilation!

I know right?! I didn't even have an interest in antiques until I started watching this show many years ago. I love this show!❤
Agreed. I just texted a friend yesterday “I watch an absurd amount of antiques roadshow UK.”❤
Ya but like..fairly crap show for old bags is wat it is
Another great show from BBC is Time Team. I watch on youtube It is an awesome show .

Yes surprisingly most go down! Not a science it only casual observation!! 😅

I get the impression from you that you'd sell it for a bag of cans
I almost had a heart attack when he was talking those plates out of that newspaper 😮
Cold chills
😘🙏❤️👍 Lovely program
Beautiful Carlton ware vase….i think his investment is spot on!
If I could choose one thing, it would be the Roman glass bracelet. Exquisite!
We love you John & your pops, Henry 💙xo
I love antiques roadshow I like to see the different reactions between the UK version and the American version
That Roman glass Bracelet is cool to say the least

It would be wonderful if the date of the interviews were shown as most of these are from the 1980s
3,500 Pds for an original 1st Addition Hobbit ... boy that was a long time ago!
A complete steal at that price.
The avaitor's watch which belonged to Lawrence of Arabia sold 3 years ago for about £75,000

The Hobbit book is worth WAY more than that. Are you kidding me?
This show looks like it's from 1970s. So you are probably right. I wish this show would identify the year of the show??

This is way before the latest films and subsequent over excitement.

The expert valued the first edition of the Hobbit at GBP 3,500 - One just sold at Sotheby's for GBP 137,000!
When was this? Would Lawrence of Arabia's watch - with that clear provenance - really fetch only 30,000!? Another fascinating ARS.
I see this in real life the women in white hanging up clothes sometimes

Nothing
how to know the next show like that ?
That bracelet was made in 1890 it was stolen nice2see it though its one of a kind frm his archaelogical finds, its NOT her families
How much?
I am shocked by lack of diversity...
Cry
All quite diverse items though!
I wish this channel would post full old episodes like the American AR does 🫤
