I don't know that much about British history with painting, but the woman who brought in the airplane painting and lived through ww2 , and knew the guy that painted it, who was the guy flying the plane, is absolutely gorgeous! I would predict that that pilot was more enamored with her then his airplane. She's probably in her 80s but you can tell that when she was her 20s she was the one that would walk through the room and turn everybody's heads.
That's a little creepy, but if Gilfs are your passion, pray continue.
😅❤ Awesome 17:32
yup, i agree, she was still very stylish, even though we could only see half of her, lol.
Yes I was thinking the same thing. If age was 20 in 42, then she would be around 90 plus?? Depending on when that show was shot!!
She's still lovely and so elegant
I’m grateful to see these older shows. More quality pieces.
I goosed up and teared up at the Lowry valuation for those people
The pocket watch is incredible!!
The pocket watch is stunning: anyone who has this should be thrilled.
@@debravanausdale1063it’s my great grandad!
Antiques Roadshow is probably the only setting in which saying something is "absolutely typical" is paying it the highest possible compliment. 😊
good point
People don't know what they have. The most luscious, glowing pottery and china. Startling artwork, drool worthy jewelry. Passed down or found.
That Carlton Ware vase is just stunning. And of course anything Royal Worcester is always sublime. The Baldwin swans against the beautiful aqua background are incredibly lovely. ❤
Such restrained and understated reactions - I love the BBC version of AR!
I dont think they are restrained, They're natural reactions, unlike the scripted/coached overly dramatic behaviour seen on the US version,
@@ludovica8221 natural british reactions!
as a teen i went with my family on a cruise ship in the 1970s and, especially in the dining room, you could easily hear who was american, lol
Antiques Road Show was much classier back then !
It is still classy today. The emphasis is just more on Fiona Bruce, which is deeply disappointing.
@@kingy002 I agree, bring back Michael Aspel, he was far more understated !
Society was much classier back then
People don't even bother to wear pants when they're on the show these days. It's usually a sea of fat arses in polyester shorts in the background. Like a Walmart check-out line.
"Is my China valuable? It's from Vietnam!”
@@phoenixrising011 What's wrong with being less formal? The only ones that wear suits these days are bankers, accountants, and lawyers, and they are all thieving pricks on a good day.
Beautiful swans!
You can pay a small fee and have no ads. It’s worth the money to have no interruptions to a program.
I LOVE the pocket watch!❤
4.000,00 is a bargain. I though it would be more. But then again, the show doesn't take place in 2024. The value is certainly higher now.
I have to remember that these prices are nearly 25 yrs old because I keep being disappointed in what they say !
Haha, Yea the lady with the bear at the start I was like, "no way it's her original bear and it is from 1909!!!" Then I realized these are older clips, lol.
I'm amazed. The people, and all the interesting objects in this auction! 21:33 the woman in this is beautiful! Why do beautiful people always seem to have all the money and own the most beautiful things all the time? I wish I was rich and beautiful.
Maybe you are gifted with a nice personality, or brains, or a great sense of humour, don't limit yourself there's plenty of rich people who don't have good looks, IMO for example, Woody Allen. You've only noticed the good looking ones. 😉😊🦘🇦🇺
I love Lowry’s paintings and he’s right about the melancholic aspect BBC Fake or Fortune now on TH-cam did a programme about possible Lowry paintings - worth watching
wonderful watch.
Я в часах не разбираюсь , но даже я вижу , что это что - то очень сложное и прекрасное ))). Ваза с птицей , на мой вкус - шедевр ))) ручная роспись )))
The toy horses are awesome
"Well done, Mickey!" 🥰
The pocket watch has to be worth so much more than that now 😮
It probably is but the money is inflated so it's probably worth the same now as it was then
I'd say at least £20k for the pocket watch now, depends on the maker which they didn't say.
@@davidboon5906I think you're right. The country dials on the back is what makes it very valuable.
That's the second watch I've seen with the dials on the back but I've seen several watches with all that is on the top. My uncle's fil had the 1 sided version when I waslittle.
@@davidboon5906 LOL
Absolutely. Positively.
That Lowry sold a few years ago for £657 250 pounds.
Dollars or pounds? (Terrance doesn't know that posts can be edited based on feedback)
That's terrific news especially for that woman. She didn't seem extremely well off. I'm thrilled for her.
@@judithsullivan9703Not really. She brought them in for a shy friend.
@@gileskathome awww .....well maybe she got a small fee for her effort. Hey maybe the other person needed the money?
Really, wow ., and she seems so gobsmacked at the £100k valuation. I hope they enjoyed the money and spoilt themselves a little
I love it if you could date the values THEN put the value now !!!!!!
These values date from 2000. A pound then is/was worth £1.78 today. But of course some things will have become more popular, so even more valuable, in the last 23 years.
At least the broadcast date would be great
@@lynnedelacy2841says between 1999-2000
I like the dark one greetings from Australia btw you are so talented Anna 😊
OPAL lady crackup!🤣👍🏼
1:40 I love the old british gent thumb nail
It's always confused me how these old giant clocks fetch an underwhelming valuation...they look stunning!
Beautiful!
The lady at @22:30 is stunning
The opal expert was E. L. Whisty.
Great viewing ❤
Yes , yes , yes .
Wow
JNO is an abbreviation for Jonathan or John or any other variant and is found in old population census records in Europe and the US.
nonsense
That abbreviation occurs so often in older documents. I’ve seen it hundreds of times on Ancestry records, eg census, death certificates when records of children were included.
@@jeanlaw6667they had three letters to arrange, yet failed miserably.
Gosh, that first expert needed a better bandaid.
British culture used to be so civilized and polite. What a shame it has completely changed in the 25 years since this was filmed.
Have you not watched Antiques Roadshow lately? Everyone is still civilised and polite.
British culture is being eroded by influx of migrants looking to usurp it....
Their on about society. Mainly immigrants and Americanisation.
Опалы - милейшие и похоже там сильная розовая иризация , камера не передает )))
Of course, I would never sell it. I just came here to see what I could sell it for.
gee series 22 that was 2000 - we are currently at 46 i think.
Really not a terribly long time ago. Hmmm well that's 23 years...I must be getting older.😅
@@judithsullivan9703 :grins: I am finding that happening to me more and more often :D
@@judithsullivan9703I say, you either get older or you don’t. I am for getting older. 😊
@@johnwilliamson2276the alternative isn’t very appealing!
Actually it aired on the 14th of November, 1999
I don’t know the value of a piece through pounds. When they say it’s worth 3 hundred or thousands pounds, what is that in the U.S.A. ?
3000 pounds would equal around 3766.52 US dollars, according to Google. Idk the exact exchange rate or how they figure it. It seems the higher the pounds, the more the exchange rate is. If that makes sense? 🤷🏾♀️
The exchange rate varies from day to day, month to month, year to year. Google it. In 2000, which is the date of this particular episode of the (original) Antiques Roadshow, one pound was worth about 1.4 US dollars. £3000 was worth US$4200. You also have to take into account that one pound in the year 2000 was worth £1.78 in 2023, so £3000 would be worth £5340 today. That’s US$6800 at 2023 exchange rates!
It was 1.6 dollars to the pound at the time (1999)
Yea it is about 30% more in dollars so 1000 British pounds would be around $1300. Essentially it is less in British pounds than it would be in US dollars and has been for a very long time so just assume an American based evaluation would be more. If is was some countries it would be different and their 1000 might only be $20-30 American, but not England.
You dont know how to convert £ to $ :) ?
Jesus Christ
£1 in 2000 = £1.75 in 2020
7:00 "colleague'
Never heard it called that before!
"Dur'in the Wor"
Eat n park restaurant in Highlands,Tridelphia W.V. Down for the count-closing Jan 15 th-multi year employees out of work- things are just great lol

Lame!
I’ve seen Jno used as an abbreviation for a John in records - it wasn’t an affectation by the artist.
9:55 if someone came to my house for a dinner party and then refused to eat what I had prepared, then they go hungry and are never invited again. 🤷🏼♀️
Rude!
Came here to rage about this. How awful. The poor lady!
I wonder what she cooked ?
If they were happy with a steak pie from the local pub then my guess is they're not the dinner party type 😂😂😂 probably came dressed in jeans and a tracksuit top
Years ago I was a guest at a young woman’s first dinner party. It was obvious she had spent hours and hours worrying, cooking and cleaning, and laying the table just right for us. When she brought the first course out, one of the guests stared at it then said loudly “I can’t possibly eat this! I’m a vegetarian.” He had accepted the invitation without any mention of it. The hostess was absolutely crushed. Fifty years later I still think that was one of the rudest incidents I have ever witnessed.
@@Bandomeme you shouldn't all got together and kicked him out.

Disappointing viewing because the subtitles completely cover the antiques under discussion.

Then don’t watch. No requirement to buy.
@@janiekcarney5482 I like to be more proactive in expressing my anti-capitalism 😁
The least you guys could do is give some price updates. Even if it's 2020 prices. Everything here under 1000 pounds, 2 or 3 thousand pounds, or maybe 5 or 6 for the "spectacular finds".
These people are dressed like it's 1988. Watching 35 year old prices is quite boring.
The greatest finds aren't always the most expensive
I hope you have recovered.
Oh really. It’s not the value I’m interested in, it’s the beautiful workmanship or unusual object.
Why do you allow such ridiculous adverts on you channel, they are obviously all lies and deceptions
The videos don’t pick the advertising. The uTube computer algorithm does by your viewing choices or the advertiser picks you with their their choices. Welcome to the new world. But if you go to the advertisement three dots, you are given the opportunity to block the ad or report it. Good luck.
Imagine living in the year of our lord, two thousand and twenty four, and not using an ad blocker. Pathetic.
The Lowery painting looks like a paint-by-number painting done by a child.
😳😁😂
Stick figures ! It has no colour and is boring .
That’s it’s charm ,it’s a snapshot of working class life .
Not all art has to be photo realism .
It’s about the artist’s own style . Otherwise just look at a photo .
@@7ofthem The style is called “ middle school “ art class
You’re absolutely right ,at some point painters / artists realized that it’s not worth to put so much work in it, it’s just easier to make up a new “art “ by calling it a new name ,promote it as something “ new “ and sell it to rich clients and this way their “art “ became obscenely expensive , it was actually a great gimmick to work less and make real money counting on the ignorance of some people. “If a wealthy person owns that piece of art then it must be good “ kind of idea .This is how modern art was born.
Love show but I don't know pounds, verses dollars! Have no interest in watching this.
Most if not all are stolen. If not now, by their ancestors.
yes they where better then the rest of the world. Thats normal
