Received my Safari a week ago. Decided to go with the Safari over the XL for a little more durability. I don't backpack camp much. Mostly car and motorcycle, and the Safari was perfect for that. Finally got to test it out on my first overnight last night. The first time for anything can be a little bumpy, but it went pretty smoothly. I have always wanted to be a big hammock camper, but I'm mostly a side sleeper. Well, not mostly, fully a side sleeper lol. I'm also a large person. 6'3" @ 245lbs. Quickly laying diagonal in a normal hammock just doesn't work easily for me. Also, those middle of the night restroom tree visits don't work very smoothly in a normal hammock for me at all rofl. Something always gets out of whack and I end up struggling for 10 minutes or more in the dark trying to make it right again only to fail one way or another and just make do. I had to get up twice last night(few too many drinks before bed), and it was smooth and fast. Everything stayed in place, and getting in and out was quick and easy. I hate spending money on big purchases like this, but this was well worth it. No regrets. Thanks for making such a great product!

My haven xl showed up last week, got it setup as a bivy tent since I have no trees in the yard but excited to test this weekend before my kayak trip in July. Awesome tent and high quality product. Great work from Derek and the team at haven.

Anxiously waiting for my Haven Safari to arrive this June sometime. Have an ebike camping trip planned for July. Even bought
a nice new bicycle trailer to haul any extra weight. Still a few items to come as well to fill out my camping arsenal, like a cpl's corner camp grill

    This is a great idea!
You should also consider selling a separate replacement mattress, just in case the original fails while camping.

I LOVE these tents. I have the original and the safari.
I'm glad that you made the safari with tougher material. This is definitely a tent worth passing down.
Now, one simple request that can make your tents THE BEST system out there. You know how they have mini hammock that you can attach underneath hammocks and use them as storage space for gear?
Why not make one for the haven that attaches at the four grommets on the bottom of the tent that can double as a storage shelf and a footprint for the times when one intends to use it as a bivy.
I love thine safari but the ground cloth is a bit small. For the rainy days I could've used it as a gear cover when I used it as a bivy.

Any opinions or feedback as far as the difference between Safari and original goes? I tried the Safari due to it being "tougher" but I don't see anyone with experience post anything about the subject. I tried the Safari but got wet after a side wind, so I have opted to go for the original+ a bigger rainfly. It seems like the original and the Safari seem to be very much the same, with the only difference being the material. I had a hard time breathing in the Safari when I had the rainfly closed to compensate for the storm, and if only I had a bigger rainfly I could avoid getting wet regardless of which model I used. Would love to hear your experience in difference.

@@g-bone5354 the Safari and the xl are basically the same. I have the original, which is the kickstarter edition and has a smaller shoulder width compared to the xl and the Safari. The original is 27 inch wide and the xl and Safari are 29 inches. If you don't have the rubber mattress fully inflated, then it will droop and cause the middle to sag where water may seep in. I've never had that issue cause I use a pump (Haven sells one with a usb charger option). Honestly, I use a 10x12 tarp over the hammock that way I have a "porch area" for those all day rainy camps so that I can stretch my legs and make a nice camp fire at the tail edge of the tarp. I usually don't fully cover the hammock with the tarp because it has the one that comes with it so I just drape it just a bit over the hammock with another guy line over it and I'm set. I recently purchased a one wind zippable tarp that can be used as a footprint, or store the stuff in and staked the the ground to keep the pesky critters away and keep dry. If haven came up with a shelf system for the tent I'd use it so I didn't have to hang it on a tree or in a separate tarp to cover it cause the hammock would do a perfect job covering the stuff since it would be suspended right below the hammock. Other than that, I'd definitely recommend latching the center of the hammock to the tarp so that the rain wouldn't seep through, or just check the wind direction before you put up the hammock. Either way, I hope you are enjoying the hammock as much as I am both mine.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I am trying to understand the difference in practice between the Safari and the XL, so that I can choose the one that is fit for me. So far I am leaning on the XL cus it is lighter to pack and I would Imagen better possibility to breath in due to its lighter materials, where the Safari would be more for keeping the R value higher. What do you think personally of the differences and what have you noticed about the difference between Safari and XL?

I like that you can cover the hammock with the rain fly for storm protection. I got wet twice in a Hennessey hammock, I'm done with Hennessey.

I like the Safari but it is too heavy; ideal for car camping but at 6kg, too heavy to hike with. So I'm buying the Haven XL. I've lost 10kg and I'm only 15kg over your 129kg capacity but I watched the 1,000lb video. I am confident Derrick is a good bloke, genuine and honest ( like The Gambler I've made a living out of reading people's faces, hahaha). I realise until I lose the next 15kg I might void my warranty but I doubt I'll have to test that. This is simply an awesome product.

I know a guy that would be perfect to help promote your tents. He is Sterling Noren and his channel is “motorcycle travel channel”. Tons of viewers, an overall great guy, awesome cinematography on his channel. He’s currently releasing his second “riding solo” trip. He does a lot of camping from hammocks to tents in the desert and the trees. I’m sure he would be interested in the XL or the Safari. He would give an honest review and I know this product is right up his alley. You really should get in touch with him and if he won’t do a review on it, I will.
Great product and l like the versatility.

Hello, i just purchased the XL and am hoping its the correct one for me. I am 6'3 at 225 lbs without any gear. How much can the XL hold? I saw the stress test, but i wont be needing nearly as much, just hoping 250~ for the sleeping bag and other nick knacks. Should i be fine?? This is my first venture into the camping world and chose Haven Tent as my first choice. Hopefully buy once cry once 😂

First, I didn't expect a reply... at all... from my insignificant comment. Very impressive. But I do have a question, I can't seem to find an answer. Your site offers a sale with no pad reducing the weight. But does this structure require a pad? And is that offered as a replacement for damage. It has no explanation. And to a novice, who has never purchased this product, we are left with questions that may be obvious to the professionals. It does seem it wouldn't work without a pad. I could be wrong, and would love a 4 to 5 lb version as hiking is my goal.

    • @HavenTents
      @HavenTents  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

No problem, I’m happy to help. We have the option of buying our tent without a pad as some people already have a pad would work with the Haven Tent. But you are right, our system does require a pad. Ours will be a little heavier than your target weight, but a whole lot more comfortable! make it a great day. Derek

@@HavenTents That's what was said when the first one failed and I accepted that but when the replacement failed for the exact same cause I have to wonder just how rare this really is. I admit move a lot in my sleep being a side sleeper and maybe this is part of the problem. I know I'm well within the limits for the XL, weighing 216 at 6ft 1 inch, so I still insist it's the pocket design. I've got dumped twice so at 74 I'm not sure about dropping again.
