Great review. I’ve tried about 17 different brands and weights of ammo through my XT-22 and mine groups Blazer 40gr lead round nose the best so far. It’s MOA accurate with that round. I agree, the trigger is outstanding for this price point. I freefloated the barrel down to that dovetail stud you mention. I would argue it can be a poor man’s target rifle with ammo it likes. At least I’d put mine up against a factory CZ.
I have 2 of these .22 new in the box. I also have the first one i got for my 13th b day. Im so pissed that marlin doesnt make this rifle anymore. Atleast not to my knowledge. Its hands down the most accurate and reliable hunting .22 bolt action rifle ever made. I have atleast 20,000 rounds or more through it and it still cuts holes at 50 yds all day. In the 25+ years ive had it ive never had a problem. The mags have always held up really well.
Marlins are damn well built. They hold their own with more expensive ones. I suggest doing a trigger job, and glass bed the action, and barrel like I did with my 25MN.
I took my XT-22 in 22 LR with a 3x9 scope to the range today shooting at 25 yards, Aguila Super Extra 40 grain lead round nose. All rounds hit inside a dime making a single hole.
This is the first gun I ever got for Christmas as a kid. I could easily plink a 2" steel target at 100 yards all day with a Simmons 4x scope and average ammo. It's all quite basic but one of the most enjoyable guns I've ever owned. I appreciate the review but never had any of these concerns myself.
@@ajroutdoors9806 I'm not sure of the history, but as far as a basic, wooden stock, rimfire rifle is concerned, Marlin has been doing it well for a while.
I like my xt22lr. I get good groups at 40yds over the iron sights with CCI stds. I only ever load 5 rounds in the mag anyway - and have few spares preloaded with more if needed.
Nice review. Thanks for noting the fact about barrel length and velocity. I really like these in 22 mag but just don't care for the full 22 inch barrel. I would love one with a 20 inch barrel or even 21 like my Savages. Beautiful rifle none the less and a nice shooter.
If you from Minnesota and you own a marlin xt lr and have a magazine that holds up to 7 in the magazine, that's our limit for small game like squirrels.
I got the 22wmr version from walmart ant it matches my cz 452 in 2lr up to 50 yrds and anything further beats the cz 452 22lr. Im assuming its cuz its a stronger cartrige but even close up theyre an even match and the cz 452 cost me 500, 2.5 times as much so im pleased with mine. Those 2 are actually my favorite rifles and my most accurate.
Mine is free floated with the stock plastic stock and is a tack driver with cci 36 grain mini mags have shot moa at 100 yrds off sandbags with bushnell super 17 scope with adjustable objective pretty awesome for under 300 bucks together !
Marlin had the highest quality bore machining with their patented micro bore rifling process, all of their rimfire especially 22lr guns are extremely accurate. Too bad Marlin as a company doesnt exist anymore.
I love my xt22, in the 5 years and few thousand rounds since I bought it, the only issue I’ve had is the screws on the action worked their way loose and it stopped firing. Pulled apart at tightened everything hey presto good to go. It shoots half inch groups at 50m on cheap ammo every time I pick it up. There are definitely aspects on it that feel a little cheap compared to premium rifles, but that’s because it’s a cheap rifle.. otherwise it is every bit as solid as my howa and friends more expensive guns. No doubt I’ll keep it forever.
You want insane, I've got an older marlin 25n bolt action with a 55rd drum, I can't find any 7 or 10rd mags, but 25 or 55rd for the 795 will fit that X22.
They probably used a 22 inch barrel so they could just make one set of barrels with the same twist for both the WMR and LR, 20 probably would've been a better option to suit both though.
Thank you for informative video. I have the same model and searched a lot about dry firing from this exact rifle, however I did not get precise answer, maybe you can give me an advice?
For most modern rimfires its fine, with old rimfires, from what ive been told there was a risk of the firring pin breaking. Although on certain rimfire like the savage 64f the firring pin will leave a mark right above the breach. Essentially if you have an old rifle dont do it and if it starts to leave a mark right above the breach dont either, if not its pretty harmless
Pick up some of your "empties" and single load them, you can reset the firing system simply by lifting the bolt handle up and down again. An empty case is good for a few dry fires, then eject and replace.
@@EpikArms The place I go to has both, the Marlin & Ruger rimfire, the Ruger is only like $60 more expensive. If the Ruger is that much better I'll get it instead of the Marlin.
Your buying a 200 dolar rifle you shouldnt expect 400 dolars worth of quality. My xt22 mag doesnt feel anywhere near the quality of my cz452 but it can match it in accuracy up to 60 yrds and does even better than the cz452 at longer than 60 yrds.
I will comment on the 7 round magazine. Any weapon containing over 7 rounds, including in the chamber is illegal in Canada. 7 is the number the federal government has deemed to be the limit.
Hi Dwayne, are you reffering to another country? I live in Canada, our limits are 5 round mags for semi auto centerfire, and there are no limits on rimfire bolt actions and semis (with the exeption of the 1022 as it takes pistol mags wich pistols are limited to 10 rounds) for example we have the savage a22 wich takes magazines that hold up to 25 rounds (i have 2) and the gsg 15, wich takes a drum mag that holds 110 rounds.
The tape was there as i used this optic in an infrared cam instalation video. The video was represented in a way so you could see its performance and what it actually is. Saying its decent really isnt informative, its decent enough but has a few points i think should be improved on. And i beleive people want to see that represented. Thanks for watching, and i appreciate the feedback
Yes it does look like the model 80, I own two of them the oldest is pre war and my newest one is an early micro groove barrel. that one I have tuned up with a bipod and a 4x6x40 scope it is the most accurate reliable rifle that I own! Btw the older model 80 mag holds 8 r0unds the newer one 7 rounds
Sorry, I am a stickler about dry firing a .22 rimfire. This comes from experience in my younger days and having to pay for a new firing pin. People who do that lose credibility with me. I have seen many used .22rimfire rifles on the used gun rack that have dents in the face of the barrel chamber because of that...

Love my Marlin XT-22 . Shoots CCI subsonic and Eley Contact the best.

Could you tell me where I could get a couple extra magazine's for my xt 22mag rifle?

I just ordered a Marlin XT-22 MAGNUM from Bass Pro Shops. It should be in next week and I will let you know how it does after I shoot it a while.
I like to know what you thought about it

Awesome video. Still cant decide between the Marlin XT-22 and the Savage Mark 2 F. Which rifle do you prefer?
I would go with the savage mark 2

This was just a cheap knock off hawke scope from ebay, found out later it was fake lol

There’s no plastic on my model 25 circa 1980, except for the trigger guard…
How would this compare to the Ruger American rimfire?
I only have experience with the ruger rpr rimfire, action and accracy wise the ruger was better after break in

What did you use to mount your scope on it
it has dovetail mounts, so i just needed dovetail rings
What’s a good target rifle?
I like the Savage Mark II there quite nice, and the CZ mtr 457 match is another of my favourites
Good stuff

The manual tells you to dry fire it
Constantly putting your finger over the barrel. That's a bad habbit
