      Takes after Magnus Carlson like that! (Who unironically identified his younger self as his favorite chess player.)

      Basically splitting Data into two characters with the same problems but from different viewpoints (Artificially created vs physically modified)

    Latent Image is an amazing episode. Definitely Bob Picardo's finest hour.

    Lmao😂😂

    Data had to overcome a lack of emotion, whereas the EMH had to overcome an entirely different problem - he had feelings, they were just ignored. Two totally different characters, just because they're both "artificial" and had some similarity in their quest for equality, the dynamic was totally different. No idea what you're on about.

    Ah, "Latent Image" is one of my favorite VOY episodes. Picardo's acting is amazing in that one. Well, it always is, but the depth that he added and how he expressed the anxiety in his mind over the Doctor's decision really developed the character. You could really feel his confusion. I love it.

    Latent Image always stood out as an amazing episode. The idea the Doctor has an emotional breakdown over an impossible choice. He had come so far along his evolution of growth but suddenly he has to deal with downside of having feelings and attachments.

    I always wondered after the Videan hologram and the Cardassian hologram had both been to Sick Bay, why the Doctor couldn’t split his program between two patients. That just sounds like a good programming idea.

    You could tell his character was going to play a bigger roll when he got his model emitter from the future.
    Its funny that most people that don't want certain rolls for what ever reason end up playing them the best. Some regret not taking them because for what ever reason could not see the writers intention until they see someone else that could.

      Fun Fact: Denise Crosby originally auditioned for the part of Dianna Troy, and Marina Sirtis read for Tasha Yar.

      Edymnion I always wonder what would have happened if/when Crosby had still asked to not play the part anymore. Deanna was so essential to TNG... how could they possibly have compensated for that loss?

      I believe certain actors turned down the role of Spock because they couldn't see past the apparent emotionless of the character who regretted not taking the part later before Mr. Nimoy

    "Life Line" reminds me so much of "Brothers". Picardo had a great run in conflicting with himself in a Father/Son context just as Spiner did in Brothers.

    Jennifer Lien's Kes was a key member of the Star Trek: Voyager crew but was written out in season 4. The actress "left" because she had become unmanageable on set, had substance issues, and production suffered. - Wow. Didnt expect that.

    Funny thing about Robert Picardo was I didn't particularly care for his character in the beginning but over time as he changed I really liked this guy more and more, and eventually couldn't imagine them doing this show without him.
    Picardo is really a super multi-talented individual and has done far more things than most people will ever know about, and even some small goofy things you'd never guess he would have ever done :)

    His favorite episode is one of my least favorite: I mod computer games, and its fairly easy for me to generate dozens of the same NPC, even major ones (although thats not recommended, because of the quests/scripting). The Doctor is a program, and the computer could have EASILY generated a second one to save the life of the other patient. I found that episode extremely DUMB. ST has even replicated entire REAL people using the transporter, and they can't run a second copy of a program? Its nonsensical.

    Calling on my fellow Star Trek Fans .. I read somewhere, that Kes was written off to bring Jeri Ryan "Seven Of Nine" on board, in order to boost ratings .. I always liked Kes, thought she was an asset to the crew of Voyager .. Apparently, the writers of the show thought that Jeri Ryan had better assets, pardon the pun ..

      That is the, ahem, polite and face saving way of putting it.
      From the stories I've heard from some of the cast members themselves (working conventions is a great thing), Jennifer Lien was just a bi...erm, "difficult to work with". Basically she complained about everything, loudly, and constantly. She complained about things like her makeup, so in the last season they let the character grow her hair out to cover her ears so she didn't have to wear the prosthetics.
      That she basically was so difficult to work with that they wrote her out.

    @TheMattvd1 because Gene Roddenberry was an optimist about humanity and our future. That upbeat and positive tenor ran through everything he put his hand to. He wanted to give his viewers a positive message about humanity and themselves. Just my two cents...

    I think, that's simply his humour. The Doctor is a bit self-centered, so that's what Bob Picardo is making his jokes about. I met him, and he's pretty far from coming over as egoistic.

    The Doctor is as great a character on Voyager as is Seven and Janeway. Top 3 characters. (Janeway gets a mention as she is one tough female captain played very well. Jeri Ryan as Seven proved she was not just a pretty woman but had great acting ability. The Doctor as mentioned in his interview, can make the audience laugh or cry, or feel something for him as a character when things did not go his way, such as his attractive to Seven in early days when she did not return this feeling. The actor is highly versatile to various character traits. Not bad, for the audience feeling something for a hologram character who had some character growth in the series.)

    3:52 They could have duplicated The Doctor's holographic program so that he could perform on both patients, and then merge them back together once he's done. But that would be too logical, lol. Sad choice, but good show.

    • @digital_gravity
      @digital_gravity 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Duplicating an advanced AI like the doctor is not trivial in the star trek universe.

    • @hiuto2
      @hiuto2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wasn't there an episode that stated the Doctor's matrix is ultra advanced and they had to overlay his core program with the diagnostic engineer matrix.
      But then again, there was the episode where the Doctor was activated with a 'backup,' and may need to stand trial for voyagers actions.
      Perhaps the holographic system in sickbay couldn't handle 2 Doctor's at the same time, I believe this episode was way before the mobile emitter.
      But who knows: plot.
