Scott Bradlee is a genius… not only for the arrangements but also the musicians and singers he chooses and, finally, his perfect taste in the songs he adapts … ( oh… as well as a brilliant player!) 🏆
As always, Morgan is magnificent. Her voice is so amazing and soulful. The way she twists the sounds rivals Aretha. I'm not sad that she's not more well known, because that keeps her special to me. Her videos with Doug during the pandemic are a must-see.
So we've got a grand piano, a cello, a beautiful harp, drums and an upright bass. Then we have the ungodly instrument that is Morgan James' voice. Need any more evidence that PMJ is pure class?
@@MrTeff999 Her voice was created by God-yes, like everyone's voice, but that doesn't mean it is Godly, not by a long shot. If she was singing different types of songs, praising, honoring & adoring Him, THEN it would be more accurate to say her voice was 'Godly'.
So I finally listened to this carefully without focusing on the lovely Ms. James. The interplay between the harp and the piano is mind blowing. Fabulous arrangement.
Much as I love Robyn's voice, the Bradlee & James collaborations are pure magic. Without Scott, I would have never known about Morgan's incredible talent. I subscribed to her channel months ago and have listened to it all several times each. I've probably listened/watched this video a dozen times. Magic every time... Sometimes, I gotta listen to the video with my eyes closed. I just want to savor every note and not be distracted Morgan's beauty.
@@FCLaney The harp is as high end as you can get. A concert grand pedal harp and the stringing is for 6.5 octaves. With 47 strings it doesn't have the full range of a piano and the chords for a piano are written in 5 note chords. The harp, since the little finger is not used a written for 4 note chords. That's Brandee Younger on harp. One of the best Jazz harpists around today. If you liked this you should check out her solo stuff. She's a fantastic musician.
+Jack Xin I studied harp under one of the first jazz harpists, Ruth Berman. She was playing jazz back in the 40s. Then there was also Alice Coltrane, and later folks like Deborah Henson-Conant, Park Stickny, Edmar Castanada, and many more. The harp works well for jazz.
If you need any more proof of this, just take a look at Angelina Jordan, who's been singing (and recording) these classics since she was 6, including at least one cover of this very song. :-)
Holy Snaps! I wanna see more of Morgan James. No offense to the other artists who are amazing, great and wonderful in their own right....but Morgan James is the cream of the crop!
I saw and heard miss Morgan James last thursday 19febr 2015 in Amsterdam with the fantastic Postmodern Jubox . But she was from a different world .... I'm still in Awe , bless her
This girl brings you in, takes ownership, and can put a tear in a grown man's eye. The passion, the dedication she gives, the soul revels in this heartfelt transfer!
I listened to Mr. James Brown original version and I immediately liked it. Later, I listened to My love Joss Stone's version and I just fell in love with both her Beauty and her version. Seal'version is really awsome. What an instrumentation and magical performance. And now, this one... Wonderfull! Powerfull voice, beautifull arrangements, fawless performance. This tune really deserved something like this. Thanks and congratulations from Ecuador.
very interesting, I love this song, have heard it done by several others. But Morgan makes you listen and understand the words. This is power people, this is power. Cheers
I'm running out of adjectives to describe just how great this band is. I also have to mention how much I love the range of Morgan James' voice. Well done, as usual!
I have never really left a comment before on any video, but in this case, I just want to say that the singer's voice is amazing. It is beautiful and has a lot of soul. I hope to hear her live one day or on the radio. And while I am at it, I also have really enjoyed Postmodern Jukebox and all the talent that goes into it.
I can't get enough of PMJ. What a great concept and it has to be so much fun seeing these pop classic coming out in a Jazzy rendition!! I wish i could play good enough to be part of this group. It would be a very rewarding job.
Wow,what a voice she has!My favorite version of this song is actually by Dave Meniketti, who turned it into Power-Blues,with wailing guitarsolos, but this here is pretty impressive too.
Excellent cover, very glad to hear you teaming up with Morgan again for another excellent performance. To all you internet peps, check out Morgan James' newly released album "Hunter" . She is incredible!

Always a pleasure to hear Morgan sing! Morgan, you know you would be able to get any man to do what ever you wanted. So, its a "Wo"man's" world. 😉 Love your presentation of this song.
Wow! Morgan just blew me away. I love it! I gotta say the Chelo and harp brought a whole new element. Scott I honestly cant get enough of you and your Orchestra. Keep it up.
A white blond girl singing this James Brown song...I must admit that I was a bit sceptic at first, but WOW , she did a great job! You sure know how to pick your singers and band players, Scott. Keep it up

Morgans James voice is angelic, why this wonderful singer isnt a megastar is a crying shame
Maybe Satan couldn't purchase it. Jus' sayin.
She's a professional singer. Not all professional singers need to be mega super stars to make a great living and an amazing career
If I ever found a bar with these guys playing I honestly don't think I could ever leave :)
+Tim Weyman See you there!
+Tim Weyman Yes i agree, this modern world needs way more jazz/live band bars than currently available.
+Eqvaliser agreed!
Id tip my hat to such a bar!
you better believe it...

no...that´d be enough ;)
Also Haley Reinhart
I posit that Morgan's voice is more angelic that ungodly. That girl has some pipes!
sugoruyo, I don’t think ungodly was what you meant. Quite the opposite, actually.

MJ has the best voice I've ever heard. That's not hyperbole. No one is better.
I don't have word to say how great this is! Morgan is out of this world with her beautiful voice.
❤
Anyone else love what the harp brings to this song?
It’s a perfect blend of all the instruments and voice
Perfection!!!!
Nice to see there is 18 others that hear that also
MJ is absolutely spectacular. I have rarely ever heard a voice so breath taking.
This woman's voice is phenomenal...
This woman should be a big star with that talent and great voice, not to say beauty.
She is a big star, look her up on Wikipedia and buy tickets.
Today is my 16th birthday and it hasn't been the best day but seeing this put a smile on my face. Thank you guys so much. That was beautiful.

Diction is the art of singing words. Morgan has perfect diction. Every word is clear and clean. This is a masterclass in singing words. I love it.
Why the hell aren't harps used more often?

The harp works well for jazz.
There is a growing revival of old style standards type music in general. We will probably see this kind of night club pop up as well.
+iconaclastor We can hope! I'd love to lounge somewhere with live music from PMJ with a stiff drink and some good company.
hope so
If that's the case I will consider going "clubbing" :p

The lady was born to sing soul music. Damn this is good.
She is to me the New Queen of Soul.
I can't take my eyes off Morgan James, not only is she elegant and classy, but the way she expresses the music through her gestures is mesmerizing.
She went to Juilliard and has starred on Broadway. She's a pro.

I can't get my jaw off the floor now.
+Brandon Rudich This video is responsible for a lot of jaws requiring surgical reattachment.
+sugoruyo And tongue retractions.
+Brandon Rudich Happens all the time. That Morgan is a menace.
The harp and cello are brilliant additions to the PMJ ensemble.
She gives me goosebumps! Her and the lady on the harp....Amazing!
All I can say, in a word.....................is.......BEAUTIFUL! James Brown must be smiling up in heaven!
She puts a lot of soul into this song. Morgan James you got what it takes to be a great singer.
This girl brings you in, takes ownership, and can put a tear in a grown man's eye. The passion, the dedication she gives, the soul revels in this heartfelt transfer!
the piano in this song is one of the classiest things i've ever heard.
I can’t determine what’s more beautiful, Morgan’s voice or Morgan herself!
I'm fascinated by the harpist. She needs to be in more songs!
I have watched this many times and I am moved every single time. Bravo Scott. Brava Morgan.
Outstanding. As a man I am deeply touched by here message - the world would be nothing without you godesses!
Harp and Cello. Harp and Cello. Morgan to tie it all together. So clear. So pure. Just magic.
Holy absolute crap. That must be one of the best performances ever of this song. And by a woman. You owned it, Madam.
A good cover, but lacks the gravitas of the original.
I love you and your voice Morgan!! Great presence on stage!!

Morgan James like ever, full in expression and feeling what she does...Thanks for video.
Her voice sounds just like it falls out that way. She sounds very practiced and generally amazing! I love listening to her jam with this group.
Beautiful rendition. I have to say Morgan James voice is undeniably under rated, I should be hearing her voice on the radio and XM.
I'm running out of adjectives to describe just how great this band is. I also have to mention how much I love the range of Morgan James' voice. Well done, as usual!
Morgan James. I am obsessed with her voice !!!! Pure gold, silk, any other connotation for smooooooth !!!! And she’s very easy on the eyes.
I could listen to this a hundred times and not get tired of it. OMG.
I can't help but think about Phoebe when seeing her perform. Astonishing performance!

I second that

Harps make everything better. Just look at Florence! :D
It does have a nice sound.
I like how at 3:16 when Morgan says "without a woman" the harpist gives her that approving look that says "preach it girl".
I love Morgan James's voice, and everyone on instruments were great!
watch this quite a few times over the last few years. Its still utterly Brilliant. Stunning and Morgan has beautiful vocals!! Love it!
Goosebumps.
And as great as the performance is, you know James Brown is partly to blame.
Dang, that is just stunning. What a mix of instruments and Ms James incredible voice!
Wow,what a voice she has!My favorite version of this song is actually by Dave Meniketti, who turned it into Power-Blues,with wailing guitarsolos, but this here is pretty impressive too.

So hard to pick a PMJ favourite but this is probably it. So many contrasts with the original but both versions are amazing music.
Please, we need a video of you guys with Morgan James singing "Feelin' good" by Nina Simone. That would be so amazing.
Yes without a woman or girl there would be nothing in this world for a man...God placed us here for man🙏🙏💗
Beautiful both, Morgan James and Lauren Molina, i guess now Scott have to play some piano whit the Skivvies
This is what I hate about PMJ: Every time I think they’ve done the best possible cover yet, they destroy and exceed my expectations yet again!!
