This was the first Supercross I ever went to. I still have the grainy, blurry pics I took that night. The day before this, all of Team Kawasaki was at Sammy White's in Irving for an autograph session. I remember sitting on a Ninja, looking out the window, pretending like I was riding it, when someone sat down on the bike next to me. I looked over, and there sat The Flying Freckle himself, Jeff Ward. He asked me what I was doing and talked about his love for riding. He told me that whatever I did in life, not to give up, no matter how bad it may seem. After seeing his performance the next night, I thought he may have been speaking about his feelings for how his season had been going at that time. He never quit that night, and while he didn't win, he really showed a lot of determination and fight. I'll always remember that experience, and I still have the hat he autographed for me. Jeff Ward is a total class act, and a great ambassador for the sport. I have nothing but respect for him.
This night i locked my keys in the car. I dont remember how me and my friend got home or if family brought the spare keys. The cool thing about it was we were at cowboy statium late into the night. The whole stadium was vacant but all the lights on. Not a soul in sight not a car in the parling lot. Me and my friend Jason walked the track for an hour and threw dirt clods at each other. Many of the jumps were so steep and hard that we had the crawl up and slide down. Track was like lumps of dirt compacted into concrete. At one point standing on finishline jump and screamed at the top of my ability and nothing but silence. So much fun walking the track sharing stories and replaying the major races in our heads as we walked those sections. Best time ever!
Ward and Johnson, fantastic. Get this….. I used to frequently see Jeff at Indian Dunes on the Mini Cycle track. He had one loud XR75. I would try and follow his lines, from my Suzuki TS 75, converted to a TM replica. Great times! Many of them !
@@BigEightiesNewWave Both were screamers.! I just finished. Putting a 2001 bandit 1200 in a 94 GSXR 750. Get the tabs this week. Find out how I did. Put on here under 94 GSXR 750 with 1200 bandit motor. On u tube. Still need to get tank fork seals bushings. I got something to ride.
I know I'll be hated for this but it's crazy how those low, wide spread bars make everyone look like a goon. I see people at my local track with less than a year riding skill with better style.

Cool story! Crazy enough that was my first SX as well. What a great intro to the sport ... I still go every year, including the one this year.
That is a great story! I had a KX80 and he was my hero!

He was always overrated.
Nobody, even to this day, could ever announce races like Larry Huffman! He was the best period!
Mike Williams true fact
What an obnoxious loud mouth.
Ha ha! Yes…his descriptions of the riders cracks me up!🤣Too 2 Strokes and the 80s!! 🍻
Not just a great ride on a horrible track but also some great sportsmanship at the end in the interviews.
What a race....I went to first six race at Coliseum when I was like 5-7yrs old....I remember the smell of race gas mistly....gawd I loved that smell!
3:00 Ha Ha Jeff Leisk the "Crocodile Dundee " of Supercross. Larry Huffman always had crazy one liners.
I bought the Moto-Video VHS of this race.
What a great race. So fun to watch
That bike looked so big for Ward. He was perfect Baker/Red Bull KTM material if his time was now.
RJ,
man if he only didn't get injured .
Exactly right, RJ would've had a much bigger win record if he hadn't gotten injured!
@@21nixonme6 He was a dick.

What, no Coors cans with water in them on the podium for the riders? Talk about low-tech....lol
Great race.
The trophy girls...too funny look like they came from a 80's " hair" band
31 years ago in 1988 these dudes were getting laid for this and I was just deployed from the wet comforts of mooms womb.

Can privateers afford $20,000.00 forks and shocks? Outlaw them as well.
Трасса слабенькая.....
I never ever liked Jeff Ward. He was so overrated. I could say more, but I will leave it at that. Overrated.
