The town that may or may not have been Chatham was Maidstone - I grew up near there. I recognised the Col de F…ing Steep from the description as Boxley Hill - an absolute leg breaker. After that, I’d just roll through Bredhurst and home, but going the long way round to Edenbridge via Eastbourne - I take my hat off to you.
Really impressed that your audaxing on your 1x gravel bike Julian. I thought that that stuff was only for serious road bikes - Only problem is now that you've just planted the seeds for me to look at one on my G bike 😬
Good job on the Audax! I'm enjoying your videos. I bought a "department store" bike last year thinking that if I liked road cycling I would buy a "proper" bike this year. Well the Covid put the kibosh to that plan so I'm still riding the Hybrid. Anyway, ! I turned 70 last week so went out on a 70 K ride to celebrate ! Felt good, looking forward to a new bike, hopefully before the snow flies here in Canada.
Surprised about not using a car rack!!! Watched bunch of ur videos today’s wish I usually dont spend tha much time on TH-cam at one but your attitude and way of narration really makes me 😃...
I always carried at least 2 tubes, a patch kit, a tire boot, and for the randonnees, a spare tire, or tyre as I think y’all spell it. In addition, I always carried a multi tool with chain breaker and spoke wrench, fiber-fix emergency spoke, some duct tape and zip ties for emergency repairs, and a very wee bottle of chain oil in case bad weather washed all my chain lube away. Plus, back in those days, we were mandated to carry 2 spare headlight bulbs (incandescent).
Can you tell me where and what was the name of the pouch you had on the stem for your snacks I'm doing a 200 audax soon and could do with one of those cheers Tav.

You're never too old to cycle or buy a new bike.
