This hack allows New Super Mario Bros. DS to be fully played with another player!
FAQ:
Q: How do I set this up?
A:
1). Download the patch here (v1.01): nsmbhd.net/file/b3k003gKTDxrz...
2). Apply the patch to a clean US ROM of New Super Mario Bros .DS.
3). Launch the game on 2 DS's (or 2 MelonDS emulators) and both select the same save file.
4). Connect with the other player.
5). Play!
Q: Does this work on Flashcart/Android/TWiLight/MelonDS etc.?
A: Any software/program that can load a .nds file is capable of loading the game but the system/emulator needs to be able to connect to another player.
This means the game can only be played on a real DS (through a Flashcart, TWiLightMenu etc.) or on an emulator that is capable of emulating wireless (MelonDS is the only DS emulator capable of this).
Q: Does this work on a US copy of NSMBDS?
A: This only works on a US copy.
Q: How do I get to World 4/7?
A: Beat the boss on World 2/5 while both players are mini. - เกม

Imagine Newer Super Mario Bros DS Co-Op
Possible but someone would need to ask Newer Team to import our code. Which they probably wouldn't do because it's a lot that would need changing.

@@PNats-fg4bw In my opinion it limits nothing at all with just 2 players. Specially when each one has a separated camera.
@@thegameratort There are limits which seem obvious in Mario Maker. Split screen does not make it any better.
omfg cant wait to play this with my sister, we have played NSMB since we first got our DS, we still use it nowdays multiplayer but we wished that it had Co-Op and now you make this after 7 years, thank you for making our dream come true

this year my little brother got a dsi xl and I had one and I found this game and we finished it together well I did most of the work and now we have 3 stars we really enjoy this game even if it has its mistakes it's good
I can't believe you did the impossible and accomplished it...I literally lost my mind when I saw this in my sub feed...
I've always dreamed of someone making a full co-op of the original New Super Mario Bros. DS since that was originally going to happen in the original game but got scrapped in favor of Mario vs. Luigi.
In fact, I like how you can go through each other and the power-ups and damage system doesn't freeze the entire game much like in Mario vs. Luigi, unlike the later New Super Mario Bros. games, that is so much better!
I strongly thank you for making this become a reality! You really need more subs for this amazing project!
I don't know if this can be possible, but my only feedback is that you should give Luigi a different colored shell for his form so it's multiplayer friendly when both players are sliding together and not getting the players mixed up who is who.
I would suggest making Luigi's shell dark green much like his Boomerang form's shell from Super Mario 3D World, have yellow like in Super Mario World (since Mario has blue, while red and green belongs to the enemy Koopas) or maybe perhaps purple as a nice nod to Luigi's appearance from Super Mario World. Examples.

The reason this is all possible was by heavily disassembling the game we found out how to completely remove the multiplayer overlay and add MvsL support on the singleplayer one. It was a very good team work and I am very happy with the result of it. Soon the source code should be released with the hope that more people can use the code we made. Updates to the code are still going, that's why it hasn't been released yet, but I'm happy that you like our work :)
@@thegameratort That is some major work right there. But I'm glad it went well for the entire team! With that code the possibilities could be endless, maybe even Newer Super Mario Bros. DS could support it one day! I look forward to future updates!

Maybe Mario can have a yellow (because his cat suit is yellow in 3D World) or orange/pink (they are colors similar to red) shell instead

This would have been a game mode for Mario vs Luigi where u choose normal levels but it was scraped it was a race btw
Basically the thing everybody wanted since the game came out but never got due to the developers making a VS. mode that is basically just play it once never come back ever again. Being able to play this game CO-OP is legendary.
VS Mode is super fun and I jump into it every time vs different people

no one touched nsmb2 coop because nsmb2 was a worst than 1 and I'm sure people predered the wii with New Super Mario Bros Wii.
i played this game all the time but i did wish that it had real multiplayer, i have 2 game cards of it so when i was younger i used to play it at the same time as my friend since it was the closest to multiplayer ignoring the minigames and versus mode

This is not a E3 2005 Beta remake, you can clearly see that it is just a co-op mod that allows to play the final game version in multiplayer.

i honestly am so happy right now, I've always loved the NSMB Multiplayer on DS, those other ones on Wii, 2 and WiiU are not my cup of tea.

Yes, it only works on a US copy of NSMB. Basically no one hacks the European version and I doubt a database exists at the moment.

Thank you for making this, it works great! However, I have an issue that when one player enters a cannon, like the World 1 cannon, the second player cannot enter and the game is just frozen. Are the cannons just unusable in this mod?

Just a quick question. Does the emulator for you and the person you play with have to be the same emulator?
The only emulator with WiFi capability I know of is melonDS and it is what was used to develop this. So, I would recommend you to just stick to melonDS.
Can you please make New Super Mario Bros DS have these normal levels but make it where you control Mario & Luigi at the same time or even make it where you half the DS controls all of those would work..
Well if you control them at the same time itd be weird because only one power up spawns from a block, and that also defeats the purpose of having a dedicated move and jump/run button

I know this question might be answered somewhere, but can another player join the co-op mode with their unpatched cartridge/rom of NSMB? Or both DSs must patch this into their cartridges/roms in order to work?
