I have 3 old tractors, and a small beef herd, and I watch Pete to help me keep my motivation up. It helps to know there are other people out there who I will probably never meet that go through the same things I am and doing it with a good attitude and a love of what we do.
I just want you to know I truely appreciate all the time and effort you take to make these high quality videos you put out. I'm not a TH-cam creator, but having watched other videos, I understand it takes a lot of your time. I live in rural FL and I'm in your age range with a 1940 Farmall H and have resored old equipment for years. I truely appreciate the knoweledge, experiences and just every day living you take the time to present. I look forward to watching every one you put out! The relay expnation was simplist ever! I wish we were neighbors . . .
❤all of your tractor work. I go out to my husband and son and tell them I have learned a new part of an engine from you and the first question they ask is what you are working on. They always know it already but now I get to ask more questions❣ See you on your next video so I can soak up some more irritating information for the men in my house! Thanks Pete! Take care. ❇❇❇
Great video.....Pete. Good fix.....Your a great mechanic.....8-12 hour days though can be tough. Nice weather outside though for tinkering around....Have a great weekend.
for an Architect turned Farmer i can appreciate that. i listen to you because i know wisdom comes from with in you, even if not farm related. i also changed careers mid way in my 30s, and never looked back. turns out, that building houses and restoring broken dreams is what i am good at.
There's always something that us farmers have to do, to fix a breakdown or improve the running of the equipment. I currently have at least five million things I could be doing, but none I want to do. But we both know that for farmers it's not what we want to do, it's what needs to be done. Good job on the glow plug system change, I like that fix. Good video Pete, thanks and have a great day.
I like the idea of all that high amperage going thru the relay contacts rather than undr my thumb! ha ha good show Pete and a really logical move. thanks for sharing. ECF
In the mid 80’s i worked for a company that rebuilt injection pumps. I exclusively rebuilt Rosa Master / stanadyne and CAV. Most of the high pitched clatter comes from the pump. We had to use hearing protection in the test room when testing flow and high speed cutoff as it was well over the OSHA limits.
Pete, the single puff of smoke every so often tells me you have one injector that may not be “firing” at high enough pressure meaning the spring may be weak or it may be dirty. Try a good injector cleaner additive to your fuel for a while and see if that help clear it up. That can also cause the hard starting issues in cold weather. Love the videos!
My thoughts exactly, when our JD 730D started missing, we used a qt. of auto tranny fluid to half tank of fuel. Worked great. You could also use some Marvel Mystery Oil instead of the tranny fluid. Good catch on the glow plug switch to use the 150a relay!
🙂I'm glad to see that i'm not the only one who gets frustrated when heaving technical problems. Greetings from Belgium ! I always enjoy your video's. 👍
Hey there Mr Pete 😊. I am a city dweller but I so enjoy watching you perform your wizardry on your mechanics 💪 spring will soon be upon us 🦋 have a wonderful day 🔥
I'm just a city girl but enjoy watching you fix tractors. She may not be the pretty one but certainly has character. Like me, probably earned every scratch, wrinkle dent and twinge in it's life. Good job.
Awesome job. The older I get the less I enjoy working on things. But Pete I know that you know the drill, it must be fixed. Rest now, and get ready for another day. Blessings🙂
Pete , I love your attitude. I used to have a old Ford 9 N tractor that seemed like every time I went to use it I had to work on it to get it to run right. And I soon realized that I wasn't cut out to be a mechanic. I have overhauled engines and other things. But I wasn't enjoying it. I enjoy all of your videos, love you guys and have a blessed day. Larry
Pete it’s a absolute pleasure watching your videos . Your videos are so relaxing to watch. Your knowledge patience and kindness even to the animals is incredible. Nice to see these days . Keep up the amazing videos.
Way more info than I needed. Enjoyed every minute. 😊 When I drop things I say, I'll just put that down there for a minute. Regarding metric: the enemy of my enemy is my friend. As a carpenter fractions are not my friend. 😁
You're right. We had an international 634 here in the UK. Even in the middle of summer it needed the glow plugs. Thanks for the video. All the best 🇬🇧.
Pete be thankful I'm sure you are ,as for your dad passed his mechanical skills to you. One can not imagine the cost of relaying on a shop to perform general repairs as well as normal maintenance.
Pete, Thanks for the explanation of how to wire a relay. I understood why you would use one, but wiring the four posts was a mystery to me but no longer. When I look under the hood of a modern car I know there's an engine in there somewhere I'll be dammed if I can find it!
Once a time ago I was working on a building job. I came to work with my diesel Jetta. At the end of the day when we started our vehicles to get ready to go home. I started mine and one of the “all knowing” guys said to me “your car doesn’t sound too good, you ought to get a tune up”. I told him it’s a diesel. He didn’t say a word further, ha. That was a great car. What great mileage!
Hi I hope you are have great day. I live Kitchener Ont. Just to let you my Mom has passaway Mom like your U tube , Mom remember when Dad had the same unit it made her day good. I put your u tube in the service as told to. Thank you your time that Mom had. From the Glendenning family.
Great project with the relay! We've added some of these booster relays to old tractors at key points to improve reliability also. No more burned out switches!
Good to know you can get valve cover off with out loosening fuel tank. I have gas 656. Love it. Been in family since 1967. Guaranteed to start. Great vidio. I need to do valves as well.
When I was really young and worked with my dad on trucks and drilling equipment once in a while, he would tell me to tear down part of an engine in a truck so we could work on it. I always had trouble figuring out where to start on the engine, his advice was “just start at the rear tire and work your way forward”.
Great video! After watching today's video I'm convinced you have the patience of Job,,,,but then again, Job never adjusted the valves on a Farmall 656!
Good job on the maintenance, I especially liked how you wired her, I do wiring the same way, toss the plastic crap off of the wire connectors and heat shrink em! shes a good ol girl, lots of years left in her
Good job Pete. From my own experience I know that way too out of adjustment valves can become a issue with starting a cold engine. Pre-combustion diesel engine is not easy to start even with a pony motor. It takes time until the heat builds up in the engine. Also when the injectors start to fail or there is air in the system the starting process can be a stuff of nightmares.
I always enjoy watching your videos. Being the electrical engineer that I am, I always have suggestions. And before I could suggest a relay, you were already installing one. I smiled...
Thank Pete. I am hoping you would be willing to take the time to go through the power beyond function for the joystick loader valve. I have 656 hydro as well and would love to add the joystick functionality.
Great video Pete. I have a 706 with the d282 and it was rebuilt during 2020. Well during that time we couldn't get parts to rebuild the injectors or even get new ones so mine still starts wayyyyyy harder then yours. I'll be lucky if it doesn't take 5-10 mins to start on a °100 day.
I don't have a tractor, I don't even own a farm; but here I am watching Pete doing cool stuff!
I have 3 old tractors, and a small beef herd, and I watch Pete to help me keep my motivation up. It helps to know there are other people out there who I will probably never meet that go through the same things I am and doing it with a good attitude and a love of what we do.
Me too! Lol
Me too!! Lol
Lol I don't know anything about tractors either but It's fun
Your patience, persistence and calmness as you worked on that tractor is absolutely amazing! It impresses me every time!
Right!?
Pete at tracker could use one of your nice paint jobs
Not a single swear, that is patience. Either that or good editing.
You should have your own one hour TV show just on tractors. I would definitely watch it.
I just want you to know I truely appreciate all the time and effort you take to make these high quality videos you put out. Pete just takes life as it comes no matter what it throws at him, and I admire that. I wish I could be more like that, goofy sense of humor and all.
I'm so glad Pete explained solid state relays!
❤all of your tractor work. I go out to my husband and son and tell them I have learned a new part of an engine from you and the first question they ask is what you are working on. Great video.....Pete. Good fix.....Your a great mechanic.....8-12 hour days though can be tough. Nice weather outside though for tinkering around....Have a great weekend.
My dad and uncle used to say" if its not broken don't fix it". That's for that long wire. Good job Pete.
That is a great fix! No more melted glow plug switches!
for an Architect turned Farmer i can appreciate that. i listen to you because i know wisdom comes from with in you, even if not farm related. i also changed careers mid way in my 30s, and never looked back. turns out, that building houses and restoring broken dreams is what i am good at.
Knowing how to fix your equipment saves you thousands and thousands of dollars. Awesome video Pete.
I’m an old man Pete and I get inspiration from every one of your vlogs. Keep on trucking man. God Bless you and your family.

Pete, that's a lovely sound from my childhood. Thanks for sharing.🚜
Oh no....a quick fix! I had my Hope's up but amazed you know the tractor so well you can fix it. Great video Pete, missed the animals!

Nice to see and hear your love for old tractors and machines. With proper maintenance, these machines can last another century.
The old 656 just needed a little tinder, love and care now it's ready to roll again.
🙂I'm glad to see that i'm not the only one who gets frustrated when heaving technical problems. Greetings from Belgium ! I always enjoy your video's. 👍
Nice she runs great Pete!
Used to work with an old IH 656. Your video brought back many memories.
Always a good day when u get a notification for just a few acres has uploaded a new video
Coffee and Pete in the morning. What a treat.!!!!!
Good job there mechanic Pete no international too tough for Pete have a great day
Hey there Mr Pete 😊. I am a city dweller but I so enjoy watching you perform your wizardry on your mechanics 💪 spring will soon be upon us 🦋 have a wonderful day 🔥
She just wanted some love.
I'm just a city girl but enjoy watching you fix tractors. She may not be the pretty one but certainly has character. Like me, probably earned every scratch, wrinkle dent and twinge in it's life. Good job.
Man, we have been getting spoiled this week with new videos.
Awesome job. The older I get the less I enjoy working on things. But Pete I know that you know the drill, it must be fixed. Rest now, and get ready for another day. Blessings🙂
Thank you Professor Pete for another mechanical tractor lesson.
Larry
I'm not sure whether your extreme patience is a blessing or a curse. Yours exceeds mine.
Thanks for video, I'm glad you got all of the trackers working. Take care and God bless.
Always enjoy watching you work on the Clatter Bangers.
Pete it’s a absolute pleasure watching your videos . Your videos are so relaxing to watch.
Your knowledge patience and kindness even to the animals is incredible. Nice to see these days . Keep up the amazing videos.
Thank you Pete for your time and kindness.. I love your farm. It's Quaint but alot of love with family 👪 💕
Pete, I'm glad you mounted the relay that way up - the other way up is for positive earth!
Love the use of heat shrink 👍 only one step better would be to solder your connectors 🤣🇺🇸
Smooth move Pete, that was a definite improvement and very clever too.
Art from Ohio
I have the 560, same 282D. Ya gotta love glow plugs.
Pete be thankful I'm sure you are ,as for your dad passed his mechanical skills to you. One can not imagine the cost of relaying on a shop to perform general repairs as well as normal maintenance.
You were a step ahead of me Pete! That is exactly what i was going to tell you to do!! Love your videos down here in southern Mississippi.
Good morning Pete raining and snow today in Iowa 33 degrees
Pete, Thanks for the explanation of how to wire a relay. I understood why you would use one, but wiring the four posts was a mystery to me but no longer. When I look under the hood of a modern car I know there's an engine in there somewhere I'll be dammed if I can find it!

love these type of videos Pete. I use all older equipment as well and you have provided a wealth of helpful info. Thank You!
Someday I'll be able to put some of this knowledge to use.
4:26 😳😳🤣 Nice solution to stop melting your glow plug switch Pete. Great video. Thank you.
Nice job Pete👍🏻
Hi Pete and Hilary
There you go, Pete another job well done good video.😊
Thanks a bunch with the info on the new glow plug situation. I didn't know that there were major changes.
Pete you have patience. Good for you.
Another tractor problem solved grate job pete thanks for sharing
your tractor just wanted some attention.
It was jealous of all the time you had spent with the Super C.
Thats a really nice New Holland work bench. Where can I get one of those? LOL. Once again another magnificent video.
Thanks, Pete, for another example of calm perseverance.
I love the video Pete diveing into an old tractor
Another great equipment service video. Thanks Pete.
Love your tractors and your passion for them :)
Hi I hope you are have great day. I live Kitchener Ont. Just to let you my Mom has passaway Mom like your U tube , Mom remember when Dad had the same unit it made her day good. I put your u tube in the service as told to. Thank you your time that Mom had. From the Glendenning family.
Sorry for your loss, my deepest sympathy 🙏
Sounds good on this end Pete 👍👍
Great project with the relay! We've added some of these booster relays to old tractors at key points to improve reliability also. No more burned out switches!

Kept me out of his hair.
loved the hee hee hee when the part came out. I know noting at all about this stuff..I just love watching you do them.
Great video! After watching today's video I'm convinced you have the patience of Job,,,,but then again, Job never adjusted the valves on a Farmall 656!
Your knowledge is outstanding..and your patience , you just take everything in stride.. God bless..
Go in take break, spring coming fast!
Good job on the maintenance, I especially liked how you wired her, I do wiring the same way, toss the plastic crap off of the wire connectors and heat shrink em! shes a good ol girl, lots of years left in her
@@Failure_Is_An_Option Very true and i have, us old guys just have so much of the goods from yester years
Thanks Pete
I always wondered if solid state was a form of magic
I'm with you, working on a tractor outside in February in upstate NY is like having a tooth pulled without Novocain...
Waving a hand from texas love the tractor
Exactly what I was describing on the video, that you changed the button.
The buttons will handle the amps for awhile, but will eventually burn up.
Good job Pete. From my own experience I know that way too out of adjustment valves can become a issue with starting a cold engine. Love your videos Pete, keep up the great work!
I always enjoy watching your videos. Being the electrical engineer that I am, I always have suggestions. And before I could suggest a relay, you were already installing one. I smiled...
Hi Pete, Thanks again I learn something new from every video. :-)
Nice job on the relay Pete.
Well Howdy Howdy! How you doing Pete? Hope your doing well, I really appreciate the videos that you make. We farm like you by the way.
10:58 I get it your preventing the switch from burning out. I might call it preventative preventive maintenance. Love your videos
The boys with their toys. Give it some and it gives a lot back. TLC
One of the best purchase I ever made was a multimeter with a magnet on the back. Just stick somewhere and you only need two hands.
I love how you explain everything..great vid.
today is my birthday mister acre , i watching to it tommorow, good night
As always another great video thanks Pete.
Thanks Pete, it was a fun project, and it works well 😊😊
I remember my Dad using a cutting torch to heat up air intake filter housing with filter removed
Pete loves us.
Thank Pete. I am hoping you would be willing to take the time to go through the power beyond function for the joystick loader valve. I have 656 hydro as well and would love to add the joystick functionality.
That relay is a great fix for your switch issue- I wonder if that type fix would work for your MD starter
Good to see you pete sir
Great video as always and I learned something new today
Great video Pete. I have a 706 with the d282 and it was rebuilt during 2020. Well during that time we couldn't get parts to rebuild the injectors or even get new ones so mine still starts wayyyyyy harder then yours. I'll be lucky if it doesn't take 5-10 mins to start on a °100 day.
