The cost of electricity is the hidden cost. I don’t understand why more people haven’t really discussed this. Especially since electricity costs vary from area to area. Although maintenance might be easier, I have a Toyota Camry and I’ve really never had any maintenance in the last three years since owning it. My cost effectively is zero. But plugging in the battery every day, and leaving it charging only cost me more money.

I have solar now; but in Hawaii we have ridiculous rates (37 cent per kw/hr ) and even then it's much cheaper to operate., by far. Carbon based fuels create mostly heat, which an ice car has to waste copious amounts of energy to get rid of.

@@babyUFO. Solar panels create heat as well. I remember the ecological disaster in California where there were massive amounts of panels as you drive towards Vegas. Not only did they change the topography, but birds and other animals fried as they were either living there or approaching towards it.
Wayback in the day, they used to call it, global warming. Now they call it climate change. Instead of it being called a One Direction approach, it’s now a by directional approach. I guess they win no matter which direction it goes. But for tens of thousands of years, the climate has always changed. It’s an uncontrollable thing. Too bad the rest of the world, with countries like China and India, really don’t agree with getting on board with anything efficient. I doubt they ever will; at least not in our lifetime. And they have many more times the population that we ever will have. Bottom line, we really don’t create a significant impact in our environment as we are led to believe. And there’s really no comparison with a befores and afters with continual monitoring of progress of any change that is occurring that is measurable based on us signing up paying more money on electric cars

Love my 2019 hybrid camry! I do all my own maintenance and have over 92,000 on it. I've upgraded things that typical people wouldn't change to improve it but otherwise it would have been just fine stock. Example would be changing the brake pads at 10k with ceramic pads. It keeps the wheels cleaner. High capacity lithium 12v battery (60AH) to use the car as a portable generator. Installed a 2k watt inverter in the trunk. Full electric cars just offset emissions. Where does that power for that electric car come from? I bet its a coal fired power plant. If you've already got solar installed on your house then you've got the setup for it!

EV's chew up special pricey tires every 30,000+ or - miles. The extra weight requires heavier special tires to absorb the additional battery weight. Depending on your vehicle's make, model, and type, the cost can vary from $200 to $500 per wheel. The average tire replacement cost is $800 to $2000, depending on the make or model you drive.

@@hanshansen3885 BS, the vehicle is twice the cost of an ICE vehicle to begin with, and if you replace those more expensive tires more often, and if you have to replace a $10000 battery in seven or eight years of ownership (or your trade-in value is reduced because you didn't replace the battery before the trade-in), you were better off buying and driving the ICE vehicle. Turn on the A/C or heat in the winter and you won’t go far. Hook up a trailer and turn on the A/C and it gets worse!! MILES BETWEEN CHARGES ARE BASED ON FLAT ROADS NO HEAT OR A/C . Besides that if 10% of the vehicles on the road today were replaced with electric the power grid would crash.

Even California has to restrict charging hours because they can't support the usage on top of home usage and peak need time. Imagine having an EV and driving I-10 from San Antonio to El paso. 551 miles on a charge good for 350 miles. Electric may be fine for public transportation such as busses and rails but not for everyday commuters unless you want to spend every dollar you have on charging them because you know the power companies will increase costs to keep up with demand and pay for all the massive changes they will have to come up with for the infrastructure. Oh, and your 8-hour workday may end up being 12 hours while you sit and wait to get your vehicle charged if it is low and you just may not make it home on the charge you have left. And all of those mines take years to be permitted and into operation. No mention of the electric power plant capacity being way undersized if EVs would come online anytime soon, and all those power plants take years to be permitted and into operation. No mention that EVs generate far more CO2 during production than a gasoline car, so much that you have to drive an EV 100,000 miles or more before hitting the breakeven point of CO2 emissions of a gasoline car. I'm not opposed at all to EVs, but I am opposed to nonsensical govt mandates that are over the top unrealistic, unachieveable, and don't really do a great job toward reducing CO2 for all the money spent.
