    Another option is the Passion Planner. It's pretty affordable and is available as a free PDF download. You can bind it in any way you want if you download it and it is a pretty blank canvas for those who don't want a planner that is already color-coded. Every week has a motivational quote and a challenge to reach your goals/passions. I added budget pages, monthly blog planning pages and a bunch of other stuff to mine.

    I love my Happy Planner and I used a regular hole punch and notched out the side a bit to put a book mark in it and it works great without the extra expense of the punch. :)

    I ditched my EC for 2016 and moved into a ring bound system like a Filofax with inserts from Sew Much Crafting. I wasn't a fan of how big EC was getting and how it effected their attention to detail on many of my orders. I have 100% found planner peace with the SMC and Filofax system! Just thought I'd throw that option to people in the comments. :)

    I have a small cheap weekly planner from target that I keep in my bag whenever I go to class for whenever an assignment or test is mentioned in class. Alone with that, I have ordered a Day Designer for 2016 because my life revolves around to do lists, and I have to keep track of my classes, so the schedule works great for me. For the month of December, I've been using the DD free printables to test the system and see what works for me, and I find that being able to see when I have free time makes it easier for me to work on my daily to dos and get things done. I love the daily gratitude section because it reminds me to stay thankful and not take things for granted. I hate how expensive the Day Designer was, but honestly, the structure it will put in my life is worth the cost.

    I use an EC vertical as a family planner. I have a filofax a5 planner as my persnal and health planner and a personal size planner for work and on the go planning. Im very happy with my system and Im keeping it the same for 2016. Happy planning!

    Hi Kayla! This is the first of your videos I've seen and Love how you've shown the different styles and types. I went a different route this year and going completely DIY to try it out and break away from my old systems and habits (I was a Franklin & DayTimer girl). I'll be checking out more on your channel! Thanks for what you share.

  • @joanie5278
    @joanie5278 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    As a student, I really loved my Day Timer. Very customizable! You can choose different layouts (I've used mostly 2 page per week), as well as different add ons and reference sheets.
    I've used pocket folders, a zip pouch, business card holders, maps and reference sheets, etc. PLUS, you can choose different binder styles. Mine is a padded hardcover denim with lots of pockets for notes, notepads, and a picture, two pen loops, and a Full Zip! It has lasted for AGES. Can't remember exactly when I got it, but it's coming up on a decade probably.
    As a bonus, planning stickers for the EC/MAMBI fit pretty well!
    Now that I have transitioned from student to someone with more in the way of errands and home stuff that has to be done as well, I find the personal sized pages a bit small for me, especially once I started decorating. That might be remedied by switching to 1 or 2 page per day layouts, but I'm not sure what I will try next.

    I have a Plumb Paper planner, horizontal, and I love it. I just can't do vertical. They also have meal planners and student and teacher planners. Great quality and the cover can be customized. I also have the staples arc system and love it too. I love being able to make my own layouts and really customize for what I need.

    I have the Erin Condren Vertical and I feel at peace already! I can't believe I got that lucky to find a planner I love with the first one I buy. (I most certainly do not include the cheap planner I bought at the beginning of the year because I never ever stick to a cheap one- I don't know what I was thinking!) I absolutely love it and never thought I'd find the planner I wanted to stick to.

      I'm not trying to speak for her at all, but maybe it's be said its already similar to Erin condren so she doesn't have one? I have the student PP and I really love it but I'm definitely switching it up for next year. It would have made a good addition for those who want something similar to EC But don't want to shell out the money.

    I will be using a Plum Paper Planner for school in 2016, right now I'm using an Erin Condren (was free because they sent me a 12month instead of a 18month like I ordered) I use an Erin Condren for all things in my life that remains at home, its also the only one I REALLY decorate. I have an Erin Condren Deluxe Notebook that I use for work, I make the schedule for all the pharm techs at my store as well as manage the expense order each week, its been great for keeping up with requested days off or when someone needs to work a particular shift on a certain day. I keep a running list of on hands and what I ordered on the expense order and have little reminders and "how to" emails or memos we have gotten for things we don't do often, like billing a flu shot to the VA! Then I have a medium sized Kikki-K that I carry with me at all times. It serves as a catch all for up coming appointments, my work schedule, church events, etc so I always have ONE place that I write down everything in. My Kikki-K is the first one I always reach for and I sometimes pretty up the pages when I have the time (which is very very rare) In 2016 my husband and I will also have a home planner where we keep appointments and such as well as our home cleaning schedule, meal planner and more. With both of us working and me studying all the time we needed something to keep us informed of each others schedules and what needs to be done around the house. I got this planner from Plum Paper, no weekly views, just the month view and note pages, checklists, cleaning list and the blog planner that we are going to repurpose for more of a business planner while we help my dad start up a new business that my husband will probably start doing full time since his disabilities keep him from being able to find a job that makes him happy. its a lot of planners I know, but the system has been working for me and I finally have control on my life, job, school, etc and not feeling so overwhelmed and depressed!!!

    I have a Bloom planner and an Erin Condren vertical. I keep/use the Bloom in my backpack because it's light and has a horizontal layout with plenty of space for me to write detailed info about assignments, etc. I don't use stickers in it at all. But at home I use the Erin Condren - I like visually decorating the vertical layout with stickers and washi tape, and I include non-school activities in it.

    Great video. My only problem is that the MAMBI/Happy Planner customer service is quite good if not much better than EC's. I was a little surprised when I heard that comment. I agree with the interchangeable cover issue, though. Both EC and MAMBI planners are horrible with this. That's why I ended ditching both. They are both impractical options for students since they'll be traveling in your backpack.

  • @wdbreezy
    @wdbreezy 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I had a horrible customer service experience with EC (hard to reach, planner arrived weeks late and with poor printing and scratched cover, insides not the correct ones to coordinate with cover, cover corners separating after less than a year and light use, cover continually coming off spiral binder not to mention needing a suitcase to haul it around!). I switched to Papertreyink's Moment Inked Planner with the binder, despite the crazy amount of money I'd invested in the EC planner. It's all a matter of preference and what fits into your planning style !

    If you want something almost exactly like the Erin Condren, but at a cheaper price point; I HIGHLY recommend the Plum Paper planners on Etsy! They are similar quality and just redesigned their covers to be more durable! If you like the Erin Condren vertical or horizontal layout, but not the price, you should check these out! They are $20+ less than the Erin Condren making them more accessible for college students like myself. I want an Erin Condren, but I'm holding off until I graduate and can afford it. I hope this helps someone!

    The hourly planners have always been funny to me because it's like they think people who work night shift don't exist. My work hours are 10pm - 5/6am depending on the day. It's one of the major reasons why I chose a vertical planner.

    • @MacMac548
      @MacMac548 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe you could just switch the hours, like 10am=10pm, 3pm=3am

    • @masenatfour
      @masenatfour 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It still wouldn't exactly work because I'd need both am and pm for some. Like I'm usually at work at 3am, but some days I get off early so I'd want the 3am to mark that. But I'm up at 3pm for errand running, appointments, ect. I'd have to have more spaces and a full 24 hours in each day because of that. Sometimes I sleep from 7-8am until 8pm, but others I'm up and running errands most of the day. Sadly, it's just not a planner style that would work for a third shifter.

    Enjoyed seeing the different points of some I haven't looked at before. I have the EC vertical, happy planner and 2 Filofax dominos with calendar sets from Happycard on etsy but I have been contemplating the EC horizontal for a while as that's the layout I use in my Filofax's. I use my EC as my household and Filofax as a fitness planner and Happy planner as a change for decorating but also have a couple Webster's, 2 Heidi Swapps and 2 Happy planner's (one I gave away to someone on facebook that her 3 yr old tore several pages in her new planner) so have not been able to justify getting another, YET, LOL. Also have been enjoying your vlogmas, you and your hubbie are really cute, remind me of me and mine , we've been married for 30 yrs this past August.

    I have the MAMBI Happy Planner and I'm not in love with it as a life planner. The one I have is styled a bit differently and my brain just isn't getting it. I always used a horizontal design through school and my first degree. But now I have so much more on my plate that my horizontal spreads feel crowded and overwhelming.

    When I started grad school and my campus assistantship I felt like I needed to leave behind the brightly colored planners because my office was a very professional setting.
    I'm in love with the Passion Planner - www.passionplanner.com/. It's a weekly layout which goes from 6am-10:30 pm by the half hour, similar to a Day Designer. It is all about the mind map and goal setting with monthly check - ins. Each week has personal and work to-do check lists separated into urgent and errands plus a section for notes/doodling, quotes, and a gratitude box. The beginning and mid-year also have a big section on goal setting. It comes in an 8x5 and an 8x11 size.
    The Spark Planner www.thesparknotebook.com/ is really similar in terms of clean design from a different make. It has the morning/noon/night three box daily layout like Erin Condren, though Saturday and Sunday are stacked half boxes. It is, interestingly, a week on FOUR pages. There's the weekly spread and then a second spread for goals and journaling. It feels like it's aimed a little more at creativity whereas the PP is all about productivity, if that makes sense?

      +Bailey Shaw check out the plum paper planners, I use one for school and an Erin Condren for everything else. I like the Plum Paper for school because they have a layout that is basically a to-do list on one page and then the second page is the week laid out horizontally. I go to school online, at my own pace so there are not very many due dates for me, just webinars to attend but I normally have a long list of things to complete during the week. Plum Paper has 4 different layouts for their regular planners, but they have a school planner as well that has each day divided into 7 (i think) different categories or classes, I used it last year and it was okay but didn't meet the needs of my specific situation. The planners are very customizable, which is another reason why I got one, I added a bunch of note pages to the back as well as at the beginning of each month and some checklist pages. There is a direct selling tab you can add as well and many other options. GOOD LUCK!!!

    I'm a young girl, and I don't have a lot of money. Do you know any ways to get cheap planners?

      Try sugar paper planners at target or wait until April and the EC life planner goes 40% off and with the coupon code you can get it around 25$
