Loved that one! Very helpful... I've been working on casseroles and just dealing with whatever sizes of openings came out... good idea to make them all the same-size openings, that never occurred to me! Thanks for the tips. Also like your method of attaching knobs, I've been just carving them out of the clay left at the bottom after forming the main part of the lid, so my lid 'handles' are quite flat and disc shaped, but your knobs are much more stylish... will try that tomorrow when I'm back in the studio! Thanks!
Yes you’ll definitely get a better shaped knob by adding some additional clay instead of carving out from the excess clay. I’m glad the video helped! Cheers

I was searching through the comments to find out why you have to cut the hole into the knob, and I can’t find the reason. Will it crack or something if you keep the air in it? Thanks for this amazing video! Just made my first lids last night and am excited to try these! Thank you! Following now too!!!!
Yes there’s a good chance they would crack from the trapped air inside if you don’t put the hole in them. I hope the video helped your lid making process!
What do you use to drill the hole and when in the drying process do you drill? it looks very clean and precise
Since the lids are hollow, do you need to poke holes to allow air to release during firing?

I have never worked with clay, however, I am thinking of ways to make clay lids for clay pots to keep food cold without electricity. We are moving to the mountains and will be living off grid. I am thinking of buying oblong clay pots to keep our food cold. My thoughts are towards trying
To mold lids for the planters, by making styrofoam frames and then molding the clay into shape. Do you think that is possible? These are just my idea's that I conger in my think tank. If you have a few minutes to make a comment I would certainly appreciate it. Thank you sincerely.

wow! up until recently I did make my lids upside down BUT was leaving enough clay underneath to trim a knob! however after watching this video Matt, I'll be changing/ trying THAT idea to yours. I'll do some practicing "off the hump" to make the pre-formed knobs as you did. Wish me luck. Thank you, as always, for your informative videos, they always inspire me. [cliff from london].

Teapots, lidded jars and skinny necked bottle are my fav to make in that order.

You mentioned that some times the lid might still be a little to soft to put the knob on!
I have a "hairdryer" close to my wheel and that can get you out of trouble for this kind of problem. Obviously it doesn't warrant using the blow torch, so the hairdryer is perfect with this problem [and other similar problems] :)
Excellent tip about throwing the "little cylinders though" in prep for the knobs, :)

Knobs that size definitely could be solid but the technique of making that way is much easier so i don’t mind them being hollow.

I have one Pacifica and one Brent. The Brent did make a lot of noise but I was able to fix that.
