Pediatric doctors and nurses are something else.
When my son needed surgery they let him hold on to his stuffed animal in the OR. When he was done, they had given the animal an IV and dressed his arm just like my son, and the doctor even repaired a small tear in a seam with some stitches.

When I was little I had a lot of bladder issues and when I was 7 I had to have surgery. The doctor let me take my stuffed Minnie Mouse into to OR with me and when I came out they let me help put in a little IV for her. It made me less scared and I knew I wasn’t alone on my journey. Fast forward 7 more years, I had to have the same surgery again a couple of months ago, and they did the same thing with one of my squishmallows. It made my day, even at 14 years old!

I mean yes I agree it isn't easy, if you as a medical professional are in a mental state where you are taking the stress out on your patients then you need to take a step back and reevaluate why you did that and what you can do to help your mental health and help you treat your patients more kindly. My friend just had a baby and while some of the staff were amazing there were a few who were absolutely horrendous. My friend was high risk and she never dilated past 7cm and so she may have needed a c-section. A nurse gave her food (which she was only supposed to be on a liquid based diet) which was dangerous as it could have caused asphyxiation during the c-section, luckily she didn't need the c-section but she was in rough shape after and it was almost a c-section.

At our children's hospital, the staff were great. They let my daughter play with an iPad until the anesthesiologist came in to meet her. He let her choose the flavor of gas she got when she was put under.
They had her in a great mood when they took her back to the OR. They asked me if I wanted to be in the recovery room when she woke up and were fine when I said no, I needed the tube out of her throat before I got in there to prevent flashbacks of her late brother.
They offer a choice of her leaving in a wheelchair or a wagon and gave her stickers and a barf bowl for the ride home just in case.
The second time she had to do the same procedure they let her "drive" a remote control Mercedes into the OR. It was so cute. The nurse was actually driving it for her but my daughter didn't know that.
She had a more difficult time waking up the second time and she was upset so the nurse comforted her and gave her pain liquid. If your child has to suffer through these kinds of things it's such a comfort knowing there are caring people working hard to make sure your child isn't scared and in as little pain as possible.
