    People forget that Bradbury only qualified for the semifinals because Gagnon was DQ’d for obstruction on the final turn in the QF’s. In the semi-finals 3 of the 5 competitors went down on the final turn and he finished 2nd. Then the same thing happened in the finals. What a legend!

      Not to mention he broke his neck in 2000, was told by doctors that he would never be able to race again, but not only returned but qualified for 2002, where the rest is history

    Steven Bradbury has had a massive cultural impact in Australia. "Doing a Bradbury" is a saying. At my weekly trivia team there is a team called "the Bradburys". It's just become a thing.

      Apollo Ono won that race. He was ahead and did not crash but was illegally taken out by South Korea. At least he got the silver.

      Alessia Eletta Coppi he won because he wasn’t fast enough to get caught in the tangle up. It’s not that he deftly maneuvered his way to the lead. He was literally last and got lucky. It wasn’t a game plan.

      I do inline speed skating (ice skating on the road) and I just loved it. Then one day I fall over someone else, and I didn't skate again for 6 weeks, because it was summer break (or however English people call it). When I got back to skating, I just didn't have the courage to get back into the pack, and also didn't dare to go on my full speed, because I was afraid. But then, after another break, somehow I got back into it and I still do it to this day.

      Lima Bean First ever winter gold. Australia finished bronze in the 5,000m short track relay in Lillehammer ‘94. Bradbury the legend was part of that team.

      @@faiththomas1749 Alissa Camplian won her gold a couple of days after Bradbury (becoming the second ever gold medal for Australia), and it was in the freestyle aerials (traditionally Australia's strongest Winter Olympic sport) NOT the moguls.

    Would like to suggest Aljona Savchenko as well. Kept winning bronze 2 or 3 times in pairs figure skating, then her partner retired but she wanted that gold. Found herself a new partner, everyone said she was crazy, she should just let it be and it would never work but she did it anyway. Her and Bruno Massot skated the short program and fell behind because he made a huge mistake. Then skated the free skate absolutely flawlessly and got that gold finally! I love this story so much!

    Ledecka man. I remember watching that live. I became an instant fan. So of course when it was time to watch her snowboard, I tuned in to watch her take gold there too.

    Steven Bradbury wasn't a fluke. It was years of experience, training, and heartbreak. He knew those guys could get aggressive with each other near the end. He kept his cool, held back and glided beautifully past the carnage and over the finish line.

    In 1980 there was no semi-final USA-USSR.... it was a final group stage with 4 teams between USA, USSR, Finland and Sweden..... images shown here are of the match USA-Finland it seems

    the Canada vs. USA women's olympic hockey game, shown here, is one of the finest games I've ever watched, point finale! both teams played with such passion...it was a pleasure to watch such a fantastic game where every single player on both teams were "in it to win it" 100%. My Dad and I were literally jumping up and down in front of the TV losing our collective Canadian minds watching that! It was just incredible.

    I have immense admiration for Stephen Bradbury, because he skated the best race he could and just look what happened; just too easy to forget that sports are games where the unlikeliest things are possible so you just don’t give up. Also interesting that he well-and-truly paid his “dues” to the sport, recovering from a massive skate cut in the years leading up - PLUS he actually hand-made skates for a number of his rivals, because he just made the best skates.

    To do full justice to Kalla's relay achievement, they should have noted the Finnish skier wasn't out on a Sunday cruise, and Kalla still closed a gap of 25 seconds all on her own.
    About the USA relay win, not sure all viewers realise how dominated the cross country skiing world is by European countries, and especially Norway.

    I think the final stretch of cross country skiing is the most epic. Sure, on the final stretch of every sport every athlete gives it 200%, but I feel like that is most visible in skiing, as the throw everything in their arms in massive downward shoves to give it everything they've got.

    I do love Stephen Bradbury's gold medal, but I can't help but feel bad for Ohno. Pulled down by the falling skater is a terrible way to lose a gold medal.

      Ohno was the one who told Bradbury to take the gold medal. "That's just speed skating" he said. The Korean skater definitely pulled a dirty tactic, though. Bradbury's victory was deserved. He employed the correct strategy for himself.
