- Lately I've been receiving a surprisingly high number of questions about parsing PvP Builds in ESO Elder Scrolls Online like you would a PvE build, so it gave me the idea to make this video to show why you should NEVER do that.

Just something to add: There was a difference in attacks blocked in the PvP parses, but if you look total damage does still favor engulfing, and in a separate test I ran prior to recording for the video I got the same results with no block difference. Just wanted to clarify in case anyone thought that's why the results were the way they were.
Simply how much damage you deal to a target dummy over a period of time. Think of it as a "DPS test"
Also some sets only do DMG to players so they would do no dmg at all during a parse...

I guess I need to start with What is parsing?
Parsing a PvP build is taking bits and pieces of your build and putting it in another, different build.

@@serious.business Nooo, ur going the very wrong way here. Parsing means dealing damage to a target dummy with a so called skill rotation where you execute all ur damage dealing skills on a target dummy over and over

I played ESO very casually for about 4 years now, and i always felt like a complete noob to the game which was very demoralising and driving me to quit and come back few months later. Actually this was something I have been doing when I have first started, it lasted quite long because..I was playing casually for most of my time back then with no real build etc and using same builds in casual pvp and pve x) Nowadays though I like to think I am far ahead of this alas, this is quite helpful for new players! I will likely toss this to my newbie friends! Good video, liked and subscribed! ^^

Hi Dottz, can you maybe explain the difference between Impen and reinforced. On the stats Reinforced looks good and its also viable to use the build in PVE content. I would actually think the difference is small but maybe you can give some more insight on this topic =)
Impen has a greater reduction to burst dmg since it reduces the critical damage spikes you receive, which is more valuable than a small amount of armor that can be penetrated through
I'm new but am thinking of getting eso for pc when the new dlc hits. Which would be a better tank? Mag dk or stam dk?
And too add, it seems eso will be going strong for a few more years and am also wondering if the time to put in is worth or to plan on other mmos? Kind of figure this one would be best out of anything upcoming
There are not really a stam and mag tank since tank use both resources pool. But in general u will want more stamina pool than magic pool bec some skill provide a thing called synergy which upon active it u get resources back. And the common one healer provide, give rources of your higher resources pool.

can you loot other players when you kill them?
I use the Clockwork dummy for PvP testing. I just want to see a burst rotation... higher HP dummies don't work for that.
This is also why the more important mundus stones in PVP are weapon and spell damage as opposed to Shadow or Thief which are almost always reccommended for PVE dps (crit damage / chance).

Any PvP zone will give you battle spirit.
It's the Nerf/Buff that everyone gets when they're in a PvP zone.

Doing personal calculatiobs is also a good way to go. Tamriel foundery has some equations on damage dealing that I adaped for pvp. I have compared most mainstream stamina sets to for optimization including considerations for impen. Comment if you want to check out my work I'll email a link.

Agreed - but you can still work out combo parses that do not rely on Crit as a major factor (like Inner Light). Another point to support your video is a boss or dummy certainly doesn’t move like a player does. I learned the hard way working on a DW, Briarheart build for my Stam sorc - bottom line, Flurry is no Jabs when it comes to pvp! Lol Back to the drawing board!
Maybe start with telling us what parsing is? I know what it is now but had to look it up. Please try to remember the lockdown has brought a lot of new players to ESO myself included. At least for a few months please include a brief overview of basics in your vids. Many thanks.
I'm aware, I have a TON of beginner guides here on my TH-cam channel on literally everything INCLUDING Parsing, as well as an acronym dictionary on my website, that can be used for reference.
@@dottzgaming Yeah I get ya but just perhaps a simple sentence such as for those who don't know, parsing is assigning a number to to your damage per second by testing on a dummy. The rest of the video would've made a lot more sense to me then lol.

problem with this showcase is your character isn't a crit class/race if you play magplar khajiit you benefit a lot from crit dmg ,but if you are not have a enough crit dmg to push you should dremove crit dmg and chance complete from your set/skill IMO
ps.:crit dmg only hits hard on templar and NB what I tested so far with my friend, my dk not even has crit instead I focused on armor pen. raw dmg.

Bro kahjiit is like not even in top 3 for choices on magplar 🤦♂️ u can get good crit with out running kahjiit and still have benifits of a mag race rather than wasteing it on kajhiit passives lol
Passing pvp builds is a still I good thing to do. But u have to understand why your passing and understand the difference . but your right a pass on a dummy is a tinny part of the story

Norse info friend. I had no idea targets had no crit resist.(XIII)
I use my dummy on my pvp toon to practice the muscle memory of my kill combo, but that's about all you can do with that lol
So is the crit even worth it in PvP? If you don't build big crit dmg.
It's still worth it to have Crit yes, it helps with getting Crit heals and for nice dmg spikes, but it's definitely a less important stat compared to other things like dmg, resources, etc.
Depends on your build. If you're a kahjit Night blade or Templar run'n all divines with the shadow mundus & the Senches Bite set,you'll notice your crits.
If you're an orc stam sorc run'n n
New Moons set,focus on getting your wep damage & penetration HIGH as Woody Harrison in quarantine & just try to keep your crit rate above 30%.
Min max means min max'n some things over others.
Some sorc builds have high crit not for the damage,but for the heals.
Some Necro's have absalutely abysmal crit rate,but make up for it with their passives.
Ideally,your weapon(or spell) dmg , your penatration ,your cit dmg & crit rate are all high as Fawk,but you can't have it all,so it becomes a question of which will help your build the most.
Nightblades (& all archers) have an easy & cheap source of major fracture,but even major & minor fracture stacked ontop of eachother won't get through all nuts.
Same goes for crit dmg in an inpen meta.
I mean parsing is fine if ur not tweaking ur build around it... Nothing wrong with wondering what dmg ur pvp char would do in a dungeon or through quests :P

What is parse?
Checking your damage against a target dummy.
The phrase comes from “log parsing”. In other words you can get addons that record everything that happens in a combat (typically with a target dummy), then that data is analyzed. People who do trials especially live by these. They use it to tune their gear/skills. The point of this video was to say that PvP can’t be tuned the same way.

I think this video is confusing for veteran pvp players. Like I don't do pve so I had to go to the comments to even know what you're talking about. It's not a pvp term cause as you said, we don't do it. I still kinda sorta am not sure what you're even talking about cause I've never used a dummy and haven't touched pve in years (got what I needed for pvp and never touched it again). I hope it's helpful for I guess pve players looking to pvp but it's a wash for me.

For anyone wanting to join a guild. If they have a bunch of stipulations on your membership (like minimum damage on a non moving dummy), walk away from those jerkoffs. There are too many guilds to put up with their stupidity.
You'd think you're overstating the obvious here but, sadly, you're not. Apart from the key points, the whole DPS PvE in ESO is like watching a juggler on a unicycle. Yeah, it takes some skill but it's not something most of us would care to do 😂 🤣 Oh Dottz...you are relentlessly sane, brother.

Let's not forget pen doesn't play as huge a role in pve as it does in pvp.
Definitely, you can get pen from so many external sources / allies so you don't need to budget for a whole lot yourself

Actually it plays a huge role in pve if you are doing anything that requires a brain, that's why raid teams set up their builds to hit pen cap, for maximum dps.

Bruh, 25 seconds parses are worthless due to crit RNG... in one of your parses you have 75 crit rate on lash, in the other just 40, its massive difference...
Than in your inner light PVP parse, you have 0!!! crits on lash :D its riddiculous.
There is reason why parses are done on 6 million dummies, and even then RNG plays a big role sometimes
It does not matter because his opponent is running full impenetrable and his critical hits would do about the same damage as non-critical hits. That's why 10% flat damage increase is so much better than additional critical strike chance plus maximum magicka.
@@bodycounter9386 well thats not really true is it... Just look at 7:29, he did just 1 crit, but this crit did over 4k damage, while average hit was just over 2k... Crits DO matter, even if they are greatly reduced.
Also, people underestimate how much crits help with healing...
I ran this test multiple times and found the same results each time. I'm fully aware Crit is RNG which is why I ran this multiple times, I guess I should have shown all of my tests in case I got a comment like this . In addition, fights in PvP also do it last as long as a 6m dummy parse most of the time, so short burst tests are a good indicator of what a PvP scenario will be like. Also, I never said Crit is bad here, show me where I said that. Crit is, like u said, great for burst healing AND I even say that in a comment response to someone, it also does help increase your chances to have higher burst spikes, but it doesn't have the same value that it does in pve. This test/video was to indicate how and why what makes a build good for PvP does NOT translate into pve.
