How can you forget Burt & Hal's second great collaboration? An ode to the Hollywood stuntman 1978's Hooper! It's a classic as far as Burt Reynolds movies go.
It was really awkward to mention amidst the rest of the movies when I was writing it, had to edit where I could, but yes, I'm aware it exists and people like it.
Yeah, when I was a kid, I liked that car that Jaws and Jackie Chan were driving around in this movie.
Mitsubishi Starion
So many actors from the original 1960 Oceans Eleven were in this movie. Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, Henry Silva, Angie Dickinson and Shirley MacLaine.
Jack Elam as the "Doc" was an utterly inspired choice of casting. He was hysterical, especially for a guy who mostly played "the bad guy" in Westerns. And then there was "The Aurora Encounter" where he played a gentle role and struck up a friendship with the young star, a progeria sufferer.
Burt Reynolds was/still is the king of the Action-Car genre, in my opinion.
White Lightning (1973), The Longest Yard (1974), Gator (1976), Smokey And The Bandit (1977), Hooper (1978), Smokey And The Bandit II (1980), Stroker Ace (1983), and Cannonball Run II (1984). All of them are fun and entertaining films. Burt Reynolds and Hal Needham made a great team.
@@azohundred1353 Sharky’s Machine, his best since White Lightning.?
Meh. By 1982 he was balls deep in Loni Anderson his Stroker Ace (1983) co star. Possible academy award... or... balls deep in Loni Anderson in her near prime? IMO he made the right choice.
That divorce was expensive to Burt.
@@titowrestling for sure... but those memories... priceless.
I bet she was an ace stroker.
I know right. I had to make do with closing my eyes and trying to picture her, sitting behind a desk and fully dressed unfortunately, from watching WKRP in Cincinnati.

Cannonball run II is a classic! What a cast. So many legends, all having a blast while filming. And Menudo’s “Cannonball” is a great theme song.
I remember that the orangutan won the race. That's why The Sheik said the next race was a lock.
Jamie Farr is of Lebanese descent.
Also, while Sammy did have an artificial eye, Jack Elam had his own, off-kilter eye, damaged in a childhood fight where the other kid stabbed him with a pencil. No sight, unsightly, but still the real deal.
Of course it's silly, but it's harmless silly. The problem with Fast and Furious is it takes itself seriously. Not only are the Cannonball pair comedies, they know not to take themselves seriously at all. It's all so cheesy it works.
Top work Jesse! congratz on 10 years of Joblo awesomeness. I remember getting hooked on the channel after seeing your AGM on Nothing but trouble and crying with laughter. There's a lot of movie takes out there but I always circle back to yours because humour wise it feels like home :) keep up the good work and look forward to another 10 years!
“RIGHT TURN, CLYDE!!!”
Whoops, wrong movie.
Amazing to see a cannonball run vid - thank you
Keep up the good work Jesse your AGM and GBNF videos are my favorite series on the channel and what got me into watching JoBlo, don't go anywhere!
I absolutely won't, man. This summer has been really hard taking care of my dad, but I'm editing the new AGM episode as we speak.
It's return of the Awfully Good King, Jesse Shade. Happy 10 Year Anniversary. I became a fan of the show (and channel) in 2017 with the Superman 4 review.
Thank you for doing this move. This was a childhood staple i would rent at the video store over and over again. back when our VCR cost $500 brand new and had a remote....that you pugged in to the front and had to stretch the cord to the couch. I miss the 80's!!!!
wish this could be done with the right group of people today. would be a fun movie. Maybe bring back those who are still alive and have some play off as the kids of those who passed. Plus Jackie Chan can come back too. LOL he never ages.
Notable Mention: Cheech Marin made a brief cameo as the tire guy. He's the guy the old lady flips off. He's unrecognizable without his trademark mustache at the time
I actually liked the sequel better than the first. I felt some of the jokes were better - and the entire cast is just a collection of the best.
Hal Needham is an absoulte legend! he paved the way for stunt men to get the respect and opportunity to direct Hollywood feature films such as Chad Stahelski and David Leitch. I'd love to see a well produced full length documentary about his life and career. While the original Cannonball Run and Smokey And The Bandit movies are a lot better I still enjoy this one in a nostalgic way when I watch it.
@joblooriginals just a point of order: Jamie Farr is Middle Eastern. He's a first-generation Lebanese American. He did lean into the stereotypes here, but he is actually Arab. And he was funny as hell in these movies.
Thanks for the correction, would have been helpful not to fuck that one up!
Happy 10 years! Keep them coming!
At least Cannonball Run 2 had J.J. McClure in the movie. Unlike the Burt Reynolds-less Smokey and the Bandit 3.
OMG!!! YOU NEED TO DO THE PRIVATE EYES!!!!! That was movie #99 at my old movie store growing up. I would never go get the box, and just walk up to the counter and ask for it.
Bobby Berosini's credit was misspelled. He got in big trouble a few years after doing this movie. For years, he had a successful primate act in Vegas but someone filmed him beating his apes backstage and his act was shut down and his animals taken away from him.
I don't know if he had anything to do with the Clint Eastwood monkey movies, but one of the orangutans that played Clyde was beaten to death with a lead pipe by his trainer as punishment for stealing doughnuts from the craft service table.
Yeah, it's a fascinating story that would've been another episode unto itself. I don't envy the poor animals that got themselves hurt in that system.
So , I was seven when this came out and I watched it a million times 😆😆.. Probably watched the first one ten times or so. Highly underrated fun romp with a star studded cast . Hal Needham was a badass , Rad Anyone????
I would LOVE to see the Cannonball Run rebooted today. Get some older stars who can improvise and have some fun on the set. I think it would be a hoot!
True but then it has to has practical effects and little to no CGI please! And it should not take itself too seriously :) Not sure Hollywood can do either of that these days..
Please no....
My dad had always did like these kind of movies with Burt Reynolds in it...especially the Cannonball Run.
No, no, thank YOU for the 10 years of Awfully Good Movies! You had me revisiting movies I really didn’t want to but your videos made them easier to revisit them. Thanks again!
Shirley MacLaine's legs😮
"Artists and Models."
I hope that joblo does a wtf happen to speed zone Cannonball Run: 3
My Dad and I watched this at a theater when I was 6, obviously the slapsticks and gags were funny at that time but upon rewatching as an adult I never realized there were a lot of adult humor 😂 ...still a favorite film of mine 😁👍 especially with the Jackie Chan parts and the music 😁
Happy 10th
Hal Needham destroyed Burt’s career and reputation as a serious actor, which he was.
They had the midas touch initially; even Hitchcock reportedly was a fan of "Smokey & The Bandit." But the formula eventually became stale- and Burt was just making too many unsuccessful movies to finance his lavish lifestyle. Was very sad to watch his career sputter out like that.
@@gallery7596 other than Mikey Roark, Burt Reynolds made some of the worse decisions in Hollywood history. While his contemporaries like Redford and Beaty made some seriously impactful cinema, Burt took the lazy way out by making one stinker after another. Although, I personally prefer his stinkers any time to Redford’s serious cinema.
@@KamillGran-ch5sb Listening to Lonnie Anderson, sounds like Burt's addiction to pills was definitely a factor in how he let things go so downhill for himself both professionally and personally.
Sure it's not as good as the 1st but Cannon Ball Run 2 is better than Smokey and the Bandit 2.
Cheers to 10 years !!🌟💥🍺 Jo Blo. Go get you some. 🎬🎥🎭📺📼📀
Happy 10 year anniversary! Love your videos.
Congrats to one of my favorite most excellent reviewers, Jesse Shade on 10 years!🎉🎉🎉
Looking forward to more hilarious reviews in the future.🤙🤙🤙
I'm not American, but when I watched this movie as a teenager I still got most of the references thanks to the pop culture education I recieved from The Simpsons.
Apart from that jump cut with the wrong car, stuck in the middle of the movie, I think the second movie is actually a lot of fun, especially if you watch them back to back. It's hard to find the original movie anymore, due to drug use and all of that stuff.
It's a shame there aren't many wild comedies like this. I remember the closest movie like this was Rat Race.
These movies were fantastic
It’s always fun to see an older movie get the piss taken out of it here. Sure, the newer ones get the views and are a lot of fun too, but sometimes….you sneak into the bag of those Ye Olde Siskel & Ebert Worst Ofs and have some fun with some more vintage stuff.
The line that always stuck with me from the first film was Mel's "I can't see sh*t, can you?". These were (besides Jackie Chan films) the first I ever saw with outtakes.
"These rossary bleeds????"
Love this movie when I was a kid
I absolutely love this movie!!
One of my absolutely favorite movies ever!
One of the best sequels without any doubt!
I remember as a kid, not liking Cannonball 2 as much as Cannonball 1 because I didn’t like the General transporting a nuke disguise as much as the ambulance drivers transporting a transplant patient bit. The whole Burt and Dom as ambulance drivers was just too iconic.
Loved that they brought them back for that Robot Chicken Fast and Furious skit
10:51 Market research says people like monkeys. 😂🤣🤣😂
-- Wes Craven, Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back.
Personally I like CBR2 over the first one. Don-Don 😂
Love this tribute!!!
I love when a Dodge Daytona went faster than a Lamborghini at the end
Oddly enough in the UK Cannonball Run 1 is hardly ever shown on TV but Cannonball Run 2 is.
I get this is no Oscar award winner. But I have watched both Cannonball Run's at least a dozen times each. I love them.
I’m from Alabama and Burt Reynolds is royalty to us. It goes Burt Reynolds, Dolly Parton, Billy Bob Thorton and Walton Goggins. They’re our people. Our greatest contributions to mankind.
Burt Reynolds's last movie was Mystery Alaska
I saw this in theaters. Still a great fun film.. now the third one is a whole another story. LOL
The only other bad movie I know with such a big cast is The Star Wars Holiday Special.
What I didn't know I needed until now... Schindler's List the extended Blue Ray with end credits bloopers!
I love these movies
"Our doctor has us on hormones."
😂😂😂😂
RIP To All that Have passed away since then in This Movie .

Happy 10 years to Awfully Good movies.
I can't believe everyone who stars in this movie! I feel like at some point in my childhood I seen this on TV and it got my attention. It looks like a great time. I plan to watch these movies sometime!
and imo Stroker Ace is better than both Cannon Ball Runs
Let's just get this out of the way. I am much more of a Cannonball Run fan than I am Smokey and the Bandit. Nothing wrong with those films. I just love the All-Star comedy calamity that each Cannonball Run offers. They are purely of their era, loaded with legends, and are an absolute ball! And now it's getting the Jesse Shade treatment. It kind of feels like Christmas a bit!
You know, you're the tallest short guy i ever seen. Love Dean and Sammy in these.
Since I was about 10 when I saw this movie in the 80s, I didn't know who Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. were either. My impression was the same, that it was just two dirty old men.
My grandparents took me and my 4 sisters to see this at the theater at the time 😂.
Awesome, Totally awesome.
Here to listen to that MENUDO song!
Cannonball run 2 is better than fast and furious sequels
Don Knotts and Tim Conway originally teamed up as THE APPLE DUMPLING GANG !!! ... How could you not know that ?!?!?!
I worked at a movie theatre during the release of both the first and second Cannonball film. At the time, Reynolds was still a fairly reliable draw, but many fans were beginning to tire of his show-off phase. Where Cannonball I generally pleased fans with low expectations, audiences were less friendly to II, which was just a re-tread of the original, and a very sloppy re-tread at that. Remember, Smokey 3 was only about 9 months earlier, and many fans were quite upset to have to wait 90 minutes to just see a 90 second cameo of Burt. (And the disappointing Stroker Ace was released just a month before that!) Reynolds fame had largely come from his fast-car-driving schtick, from White Lightning (the first of two "Gator" films) and W.W. & the Dixie Dance Kings to Smokey & the Bandit and Hooper. (Tip to filmmakers: After shooting the greatest "bar fight" captured on film featuring virtually every great stuntman working in Hollywood in scene about a bar fight featuring virtually every great stuntman, as was achieved in Hooper, it may be advisable to retire bar fights in your movies, unless you attempt to out-do Hooper.) By the time we got to Cannonball, though, Reynolds was the show-off fast car driver he had become so loved for. In the first film, he's a passenger in an emergency ambulance, and in the second film he's a uniformed general in the back seat of a military staff car. Jamie Pharr's scenes are tedious, as if just him acting loudly and with an Arab accent was funny enough all by itself so as to not require a script. Dom's Captain Chaos routine wasn't that good the first time around, and it didn't improve with age here. And dang it, it's just not a "Burt Reynold's move". He's not in the film that much, and when he is, he doesn't really do anything.
And that's the problem with this film as a whole. Almost any character - including Reynold's - could be removed from the movie, and it wouldn't change the outcome, and we'd hardly, if at all, notice. The characters fill a catalogue, but nothing more.
Ultimately, this film looks as if its cast and crew were just there to get paycheck for partying with old friends. It's sloppy filmmaking that insults its audience.
We see this film thru our childhood rose colored glasses but when you really look at it rationally it really was a bad sequel. That being said I still love it. Ooops guess I am still wearing those glasses.
the movie is great!!! but the bloopers at the end are the best!!!! I have the DVD and would just go to the end at times to watch them. LOL
Correction: Jamie Farr was of Lebanese Christian extraction, and although quite a few immigrants from (what is today) Lebanon were Jewish, Farr’s parents were not.
The first movie is such a classic. I watched this a lot as a kid, but man, it is a hack job. Needham needed a good writer next to him to cut down on the shlock.
Burt Reynolds makes brain dead crap like these films for years and ruins his image. When he gives the greatest performance of his life in "Boogie Nights", THAT he regrets as a "bad decision..." Go figure...
Yeah, he had it all for a few years there, but Burt seemed to be his own worst enemy. Will always wonder to what extent the narcotics he was reportedly addicted to were responsible for the downward turn in his career, and in his personal life.
I love Hal Needham movie with Bert Reynolds as a kid and to this day. I don’t think any actor was serious trying to make money from any of these films. I think they just wanted to have fun making a movie. I can’t wait to see everyone in these types of films in the afterlife.
Hollywood needs to understand it’s ok to poke fun at everyone and even themselves. Last best comedy to come from Hollywood is Tropic Thunder.
Hollywood just make some funny movies everyone can laugh at. Screw PC.
Happy 10 year mark! 🥳🎉🎈
I always thought they should do a soft reboot of "Cannonball Run" with JACKIE CHAN!
Take me back to this time
Work with the kidney doctor tomorrow and then you have a few days to take care of myself.
Jamie Farr is Lebanese
Two words: Marilu Henner. She's holding beer and not wearing a bra in one scene. 😊😊😊😊😊
Is cannonball run 1 streaming anywhere?
It wasn't a great movie, but is was so fun to watch, they don't make fun movies like it today! : (
It had the Puerto Rican boy band Menudo performing the theme song Like A Cannonball in Latin American Spanish
What the hell was the deal with that children's chorus song from the first film?
You do find the winner. Tony and Mel win.
You need to do what Ryan did with Pitch Meetings, ditch this place and go it alone with your own channel.
14:57 A Western Character Actor There as the Cop.
what sucks is, Like a Cannonball is on Apple music....but its in Spanish......:(
5:43 Artie Johnson.
C2 was great. Where else you gonna see Ricardo Montalban kiss an orangutan?

If Jamie Farr and Miranda Kerr got married, and they hyphenated their last names, and they had a daughter, and she became the matriarch of the family, they could call her ...
Wait for it ...
Ma Farr-Kerr
You're welcome.
