    Mere thank you is not enough. I have read so much text and seen many tutorials but never really understood what these distributions were all about. These 25 mins were the best in my learning. Taking those concepts one after the other in same context was the key I believe.

    i like the logical flow in explaining things. learning stats takes some bouncing around between topics until you start to understand that bernoulli is just 1 trial of a binomial experiment, and how to stitch all the concepts together.

    3:58 what is the average value or mean? Sorry I do not understand your explanation of why the mean is the probability of success, it seems especially counter intuitive with consideration given to a biased coin e.g. p(x=1) = 0.6. Thank you for the video.

  • @MinhVu-fo6hd
    @MinhVu-fo6hd 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    For the Poisson experiment, neither P(X=x) nor lambda depend on time interval, right?
    It is odd since the longer I wait, the higher probability that I observe x number of cars.

    • @postiveelectron8879
      @postiveelectron8879 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      actually he said at 21:43 that the number of cars depends on the time interval, hence lambda and the probability of witnessing black cars are both affected

    Thank you this awesome ,this video help my to understand binomial and poisson RV
    I have question i cannot understand how you solve it in Binomial Question sheet
    An oil prospector has $1000000 for prospection. Every well drilled for prospection costs$100000.
    Moreover ,wells yield oil independently and data shows that they do so with a 5% probability.What
    is the probability that:
    (c) the prospector finds oil just before going broke;
    (e) the prospector is successful for the third time on the eighth trial? i try to solve this with p(x=3)= 8C3 * (0.05)^3 * (0.95)^5 and the answer is wrong
    I try to get the answer and fail to get the write answer
    what the idea behind this questions
    and thank you for helping

    I don't understand why P (X=0) is 1/2?

    • @slcmathpc
      @slcmathpc  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Assuming the coin is fair, then P(X=0)=probability that the flipped coin lands on tails = 1/2, as there are two sides to the coin. This is assuming that you are referring to the first example

    In combinations order does matter. How come you say it does not matter? 10:35

    • @slcmathpc
      @slcmathpc  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Panagiotis Tsampas The order in which we choose the x successes out of the n trials does not matter, hence there are nCx ways of choosing x successes out of n trials.
