My Dad was in the SAS he never ever told me and I didn’t find out until after he died and ex squadron people turned up to his funeral. He was in Malaya. In the garage in a box he had all of his stuff. Sand coloured beret and photographs of people he served with. There was a note for me. It said… Dear son guess you have found out there is a little bit more about me. But that’s ok. You are my hero and I saw how much you struggled for the first 18 months as a baby. I decided to focus everything on you.
That's amazing! Sorry for your loss, but what a thing to uncover, you must be so proud
I'm sorry for your loss. And that is an incredibly heartwarming story.
Reminds me of my dad. My dad was a navy seal. Tough guy nonetheless
What a true impact felt story for someone who has no idea who or what kind of a person you are.Just from hearing this gives me a clear picture of character your father and you both are.
Mad Respect to You and Your Pops, Bro...❤
Theres a story from the Afghanistan war where there was a bunch of navy seals stationed alongside the SAS. There was a plaque above the seals sleeping quaters saying "Second to none".
One SAS guy noticed this and stuck the word "None" above the SAS sleeping quarters 😂😂

They also came through the mess hall one day with American flag patches on , when the Americans said ' what's this ' they replied ' someones gotta get the blame ' .

Its probably true. But no other country do as much shady shit as the uk ~maybe usa. So they get enough practice and missions to get good. Other special forces just dont get to do as much

As a Canadian i agree one of the reasons JTF2 is so good is because of our close ties to the UK gave us access to advanced training straight from the SAS most special forces today have been influenced by the SAS in some way.

I dont agree. Most people here are liars. Notice how many "ex sf" people are here.... i dont care if your thai SF Canadian americam etc. They will all claim to be the best. Why? Because they are alpha males. 2nd. No one has made a logical argument. I personally wouldn't rank sas as #1. Just because they were the first "commando" unit in ww2, doesnt make them the absolute best today. Another point, sas/delta/ Sayeret Matkal/ seals/ green berets/etc all have different roles. When it comes to killing my vote is with seals/Sayeret Matkal. Training local units. Sas/green berets. Keel in mind sas has to rely heavily on american electronic warfare, as well as aircraft. The budget for american spec ops is by far larger than all other SF in the world combined. I mean u and I cant imagine what they have now. Back during operation enduring freedom footage was captured of invisible camo. When osama bin laden was killed, we learned about fully stealth helicopters. Turns out the stealth helos has been operational since mid 90s. Oh and when it comes to assinations and killing on other countries territory thats hands down the Israelis and their mossad/Sayeret Matkal.
I've seen enough vetted and legit US Tier 1 guys say in video interviews the SAS are the best.
As an American, I'm just happy those guys are on our side regardless of who thinks who are better.
The other important thing here is those lads are happy to fight alongside our lads and they all have mutual respect for each other when the shit goes down regardless of the chirping between teams.
@@FerretsnatcherSAS is only bested by the SBS. The naval version. 😂. But yes the SBS is seen around the world as the best… why? Cause they are everywhere. Literally. I worked with a retired SAS member for 3 months on a really quite complicated and dangerous job. He was a delight to work with, an absolute team player! Ive never met someone with such situational awareness and clear communications under pressure. I can only describe him as egoless. No bragging, no showing off and no war stories and incredibly competent. We only found out when he was even in the SAS when he suggested to one of the younger lads that he had the right temperament for the SAS.
I can imagine that a group of lads all like him would be like a well oiled machine! A harmonious hyper competent killing machine.
Yeah my family has a large military background including WW2 SAS, few that I’ve spoken to are essentially picked because they will never share a story even if you get them absolutely plastered with alcohol.
My own great grandads family thought he was a paratrooper until about 3 years after he died when they finally received his medals, which was well after the war ended. Reason they though paratrooper was because he was captured way behind enemy lines and was sent to a POW camp where he got an ear infection and had an improvised surgery to save his life, but meant he was deaf in one ear.
He died of cancer, years after the war, and never once did his family get even an inkling he was SAS. Which is some A tier secret keeping.

Um look, Seals say they are more professional but that’s about it. Also the SAS is better than Seals but not a Devgru team (ie. Seal team 6), also you don’t realize we also have Delta and
SAD/SOG, the United States has several teams separate teams. Each specializing in specific operations. And if you haven’t realized yet the United States make an insane effort to be the best in every category when it comes to military. Planes (f22) tanks, weapons, tech, intelligence, ect. The United States also has a more broad landscape and more diverse terrain to train on. So I think the US being that the budget for their teams is probably higher and the intelligence they get is better. The first and the best! The British SAS/SBS, have repeatedly been the instructors of most of the world’s elite special forces at least at the inception of most of the training/ selection process. They were and still are one of the only elite units that are welcomed on foreign military bases and many times have been asked for advice on special operations and direct support for ongoing operations.
I’ve never been in the military let alone special forces but I’ve always admired these people I think, now this is just my random opinion but I think that part of what makes the special forces so good at what they do is a healthy understanding of their counterparts i would have to imagine that once you reach a certain level of professionalism which these guys have, it comes with a fair amount of respect for each other any special forces vets I’ve ever come across are some of the most humble men I’ve ever met
And I think part of that is because to be on a special forces team you had to earn it it’s given to nobody and the fact of always knowing the guy next to you worked just as hard as you to get here demands a certain level of trust and respect I’ve always imagined what that might feel like. It must feel like nothing else in the world

I’m 43 and I served for 16 years. I had the privilege of working with the British soldiers and I can testify that soldier for soldier, they’re better than we are. In reality, our military size and our military budget are what make us the most powerful.
FACTS.. The thing about "micro armies" is it naturally becomes quality over quantity. Australia has a population of 26million, so we'll never be a massive Army.
So the focus is always quality.
British regular army are most definitely not better than the U.S. We got stuck with a couple British units, and I would argue that at least 30% had zero military bearing, and all you heard was bitching. Sorry if your unit was ate up, but the regular brit army is not all that. Never interacted with SAS, but no one is arguing that they are top tier.
This is true, but what also makes us even deadlier is the fact we are STRONG allies with UK. Together we make up one hell of a military force.

England, ruling out a lot of the SAS with that statement dude

The English need to get a grip, all that sacrifice to be in the state we are in due to fascists they keep voting for, that are "not that bad", but who said "let the bodies pile high" then made it happen in the thousands. @@daftgowk1Well there have been numerous situations in all wars where human sacrifice appears to have been the order of the day when deemed necessary by the the upper class Donkeys whom led the working class Lions. The Somme, The Dardinelles, Dieppe, to name but a few. The 51st Highland Division, the real heroes of Dunkirk, who stayed fighting off the Germans to facilitate the evacuation of the whole British army, and a huge number of the French army, were denied campaign medals because they were POW'S, a national disgrace in my opinion. You have to ask yourself, what kind of blithering idiotic chinless wonder would make such a decision? A Donkey without doubt.
However, I wouldn't wish to detract from the recognition and praise being afforded to our outstanding SF regiments on this thread, as it is thoroughly deserved and should not be tarnished by the ineptitude of others.
I was referring to the SAS as a unit/institution and not the nationality of its members.
My pride and respect refers to the standard of training and development and the fact that the unit is the best in the world and the fact that they always have been.
The SAS set the standard. They are excellent at what they do.
Um....that is only your opinion. They are in fact good at what they do, but so are the SEALS, the Green Berets, DELTA force, Israeli Mossad, and even the Korean Reconnaissance Unit. I would pit the Israeli Mossad and American DELTA against SAS. The issue is each of these organizations conduct vastly different missions, so there is no apples and oranges way to compare them, other than in combat. The issue is, outside of the US and Britain, most countries' special forces teams only operate within their own sphere of influence, or even within their own borders.
@@TheMustardSeedChurch
It's funny when you pick zionist mossad as top 2🤣 but it's also just your opinion ahhaa. My serious question is are you really that smart to think that they can survive jungle warfare? You cannot comparing those special forces from tropical countries to them, never bcus they are pro on their own places. They can do anything right? lol you should mention Spetsnaz too
@@szziywhile technically Mossad is not a military organization, their training was actually initialy developed and implemented by the US Special Forces in the early 1960s, which is what helped them win both the Six-Day war in 1967 and the Yom Kippur War in 1973. And while they don't train for jungle warfare, the vast majority of wars don't take place in jungles. My uncle was actually an "advisor" in the 60s to the Mossad before being killed in Vietnam. And to be truthful, when you talk about Special Forces from tropical countries, the vast majority of them can be overcome by any standard army...the few exceptions being the Thai Special Forces and the Indian Grand Commandos. So while you may think it is my opinion, it is based on fact both having interacted personally with them and also reviewing records.

I am American and will always look at our NAVY SEALS, Green Berets, Marines, Delta Force as our countries heros. The SAS are truly an APEX predator and, in my humble opinion, see them as a force for good.

Please don't start a war with Britain. I don't want to have to drink my tea from the harbor again and to be honest we didn't exactly win the last one; at best we got lucky (1812). 🇬🇧 🇺🇸
@@Donny_MiseIt became too expensive and time consuming getting their military over here. Plus, they realized that too many of us at that time would never accept their authority over us especially after all the taxation and demands in which we received very little in return.
@@bentfissionit was a bit different from that in 1812. The US attacked first and the british never really wanted more land (probably because they didnt even have time to think about getting more). Well that makes you a top tier expert sir!!
What I like about SAS is they’re generally dark, you don’t know so their business, they aren’t all over social media anywhere near like some American SF, particularly seals. The best SF are the ones you’ve never heard of or seen.
Tbf that same logic would apply to Delta Force, Marsoc, GIGN, KSK, SASR, etc
Most of them are lost boys, with intensity developed from dark upbringings. They bring this into their role in the sas, no ego no bravado just "do" and move on.
Indeed sir back here in Malaysia we never forget who come fight along, train and help us built our very own SF during Malaya Emergency .
Thank you SAS for your service. Hat off.!!
100% without a shadow of a doubt they are the absolute best of the best. I worked with a team for a little while and they are just absolutely amazing operators. They also are humble and are more than happy to help you and teach you alot of stuff that you would never get the opportunity to learn anywhere in the world

As an American who has served and fought i'm obviously a little biased 😉 what i will say is that they're definitely the most respected, even in the U.S. SF, the SAS has always been regarded as the gold standard. i tip my hat to those gentlemen!!!

@poor ned the us military in general takes WAY less casualties then literally any other military in the world, and that's doubly the case for SF, we VERY rarely ever lose a T1 operator. Again, think you should slow down on the crack it's clearly affecting even common sense.
@@Arrctv doubt he knows what's considered tier 1....
@poor ned - you send in mid tiers operators for mid tier operations, no point in sending in the A class guys if the aussies and canadians are there to clean up the mess. Mid tier ops are more numerable and less dangerous, your stats mean nothing.
@poor ned so your saying Australia and Canada's sf are superior to the SAS?
Yes they are without doubt the best , most efficient and highly trained people out there.

I was lucky enough to be selected for selection for special forces I failed but I am still proud to even be selected they a different level of experts at they job
Yes because this breed keeps on getting better always learning
Marine vet, there really isn't a "better" special forces. My personal opinion is that they all excel.. they all excel in specific fields and tactics but you can't really pin them in a category because they are all above and beyond. If you've ever worked or trained with these guys you'll see it in the way they work. The SAS are OGs and have set the standard since the beginning and Seals, GB, USF, DTA, COS, CSOR, KSK, FSK have all been learning from eachother and improving their own skills so it's a growing field with a plethora of skill sets. They all have my respect
I completely agree with you
Nailed it
Dead on. Hrs biased. And I understand. Are they in the conversation? For sure. But there's so many elite units. The British military is a fraction of the size of a lot of militaries. The US alone has multiple SF that are in that convo. Polish. South Korea. France. Germany. Norway. Sweden. Finland. Russia. Ukraine now. Which were trained by US and British Special Forces. And other western SOF units.
Whatever jarhead.
SAS are not the OGs of Special forces. It was the Devils Brigagd with US and Canadian soilders back in WW2. SAS just followed suit. I'll give it to SAS, I have seen them in action and they are Badass. Our Delta and Seals are the cream of the crop

The issue with the SAS is the fact that there is only so many of them, same with RM and Paras. There is an old saying in war, “He who gets there the fastest with the most, makes the difference”.
He can’t say “that is a fact” when it’s obviously subjective

Meh, unless you’ve served with your Raiders or other tier 1 outfits, you can’t really make that assessment. I always thought SEALs were bar none until I was invited to a Raider project TCCC/CQB veterans event. I’ve never in my life seen anything so fluid and smooth as watching a few of these boys conduct a building takedown.
I worked briefly alongside A and G squadron of 22 as ISAF in Helmand province and while they are indeed an overwhelmingly elite fighting force, the glaze of their donut isn’t quite as thick as some of the very men you call brother. Granted, this was 13 years ago, but I’ve never been able to size SAS up as the standard before or after.
