My dad introduced me to Doctor Who back in 2005. In 2010, he left. This episode has always resonated with me because while he didn't die, it felt like he did. I've always felt an immense connection to this series because of him and especially this one. It might not be the best of Doctor Who, but for me it sure is.
I love it how interconnected a lot of the characters and plots were in Series 1, especially Father's Day. I hope future series will be more like this. The music in this series was also some of the greatest music composed for DW ever in my opinion.

I love that you've finally gotten around to this episode. It's one of my favourites. Looking back, this episode is why Rose is one of my favourite modern companions. The first season has her facing an existential look on her homeworld and the human race, has her face the consequences of time travel whilst leaving people behind and, in this episode, she's allowed to screw up and face the consequences which are not easy to overcome. Seriously, one of the reasons I like the Davies era companions is that they all face repercussions to time travel that are personal to them. I would say the same with Amy and Rory but their consequences were either lightened up immensely or felt like they could have been easily resolved. I could say Clara and Bill died but Clara is gallivanting off in a Tardis with Ishildr and Bill is travelling the cosmos with the crush she thought had been permanently lost with the possibility of becoming solid again not to mention 12th got a sendoff with them and Nardal. Honestly, the only one that comes close is Graham because Ryan has been more written to complain about his daddy issues than process his grief. Whilst it may seem scheming to some, honestly, time travel is a gingerbread house. Get some platinum that the conquistadors discarded from their tyranny in pursuit of gold. Last week's lottery numbers, seeing and/or saving a relative from lifelong injury/death. Next companion I think should be someone down on their luck, maybe from a group like from New York's ballroom community who can't have financial stability because of who they are and have a story arc where they steal things that are lost to get money either as an artifact or melting it down. Then, unlike Adam where he had something to go back to, there's the parole officer/teacher dynamic. Also, they could be like Ace and, honestly, that's never a bad thing.
I never noticed this until now but the road where Pete originally dies is, in fact, the same place the Tardis is sent to when the Doctor activates Emergency Programme One. Simply a reused set? Possibly. But I like to think that the Doctor did it on purpose as a gesture to Rose, a sort of thank you for being there moment.

I must say I think the (somewhat cheesy) off-screen deaths are so haunting and terrifying mainly because there’s no fanfare to them and we don’t see the reapers. The dealers are beautiful as well. Annnndddd the TARDIS being an actual police box is amazing: a place of safety that you can always rely on just gone, again, without fanfare as well as the doctors death, is all just phenomenal.
I feel like the way that Rose causing the small butterfly effect to time leads to the next timeline rose not being there causing both realties to be able to exist. Some odd time stuff like in that one Futurama episode where they go to the future & eventually time repeats but its done in a way that the universe is forever repeating itself.
I bet if they had the budget back then they would do something similar to when the doctor didnt die. Because the phone call and the car radio changing from 80s to modern music tells me that time just collapsed in on itself and everything is happening all at once kust like what happend to doctor 11.
I think the bit about having the same eyes, is like the metaphor for eyes being the doorway to the soul; so instead of being the same colour, its more akin to having the same soul, or the same spark inside those eyes.

What really makes me fed up of series 6 and upwards is the stakes are so big they don’t matter , here the doctors tardis doesn’t work because rose saves a man who was supposed to die , whereas in the 50 th anniversary they reverse gallifrey being destroyed which has no consequences whatsoever . We need Paul Cornell for series 13 😣

When I first saw this episode, it was my least favorite one from season one. On my second and third rewatch of new who I skipped it twice. But a few months ago when I watched Who with my Girlfriend and this episode came up, I really enjoyed it... apart from the cheesy CGI

I actually like the outdated CGI. It's what gives the earlier seasons their charm.

This was actually the first Doctor Who episode I ever saw (it was over a decade ago) and for some reason I decided to look it up which brought me here
This is one of the very best episodes ever of Dr Who for so many reasons i cant list them all.
The episode that I remember the most out of all the episodes.
