no emulation images on the pi imageing software anymore ...
That's a bummer. Instead, download the Pi5 image from www.recalbox.com/download/stable/rpi/ , then you can use this method to write the image directly: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Write_Image_with_Raspberry_Pi_Imager
It's there. For some reason the option isn't available when you specifically select the Pi5, but if you view ALL available images, the Pi5 recalbox images is one of the choices.
Go into imager. Select No filtering. OS option has Emulations there and recalbox is available for Pi 5. Retropie is only available up to RPI 4/400
Great tutorial video on HowTo setup and configure Recalbox on a Raspberry Pi. Always appreciate the extra Tips and Tricks along the video. Thanks again for this helpful video.
BTW: i just started working on my first video about emulation on a raspberry pi. I‘m glad i decided to get one, they have a great community.
Thank you so much MashTec! Awesome to hear you picked up a Pi, did you get the Pi4 or 5? They are awesome little computers, not sure if I ever shared the robot I built using a Pi 3B+ from scratch (all custom programming + electronics). That was a fun project but a ton of work. One of these days I may revive it. It's just really time consuming. Pi's were born to emulate, looking forward to seeing what you come up with! I know it will be awesome 😎
Hi Jon, i got a Pi4b just two month before they released the Pi5. But i‘m still happy with this little guy. My first idea wasn‘t to use it for emulation, but then i got this ONE Christmas present and the idea for a new project was born (i don‘t want to spoiler).
I‘m pretty happy with the emulation power.
I‘d be interested in the emulation limits if the Pi5. You may consider making a video about that?
I plan on doing the same exact thing. I just bought this same exact Raspberry Pi 5 kit too. It gets here on Saturday!
Awesome, let me know how it goes for you!
I've got Retropie on a Pi 4B, works pretty good though there are some issues with some games. I'm hoping the new 5 I just got will do better and I'm going to try Recalbox on it. Thanks for the video.
Very welcome, if you have an extra microSD, may also want to try out Batocera after Recalbox. You can find a video about it here: th-cam.com/video/WTiEyFboUJQ/w-d-xo.html .
@@WagnersTechTalk Extra TF cards are never an issue, lol. For the 5, I cloned the original boot TF to an NVMe so I can keep my usual OS and apps on the NVME yet boot to card if one's installed, the NVMe if no tf is present.
I'm keeping that tf card just in case something happens to the NVME but I've got several 64g cards laying around so I'll watch the Batocera video. I still haven't finished setting up the Recalbox, haven't even played a game on it yet... I procrastinate a lot, it's the one thing I'm good at.
@@Allazander Sounds like me and making new videos lately lol. I'm finally working on my next one
@@WagnersTechTalk Well, I put a few games on the pi 5 with Recalbox this morning, that 'share' folder does make that much easier for Windows users vs Retropie. Every game I tried worked just fine, whether ones I added or preinstalled. I watched your video on Batocera as well and may try it later. Thanks again.
@@Allazander Very welcome, happy to hear things went smoothly!
great tutorial, thank you for your time and efforts. One question please, can I use RGB Pi cable with Raspberry pi 5 and this Recalbox OS?
Thank you, I'm not sure about RGB-Pi, I don't own one of those adapters.
Your video has been a great help thank you very much. I am running into a no start issue with my n64 games. How do I get started with the n64 and gamecube and playstation, I am not sure if I have a bios issue or a roms issue.
Very welcome! Please see 10:03 for BIOS check and 11:37 to try a different emulator. Let me know if that helps!
Great Tutorial! Thank you! Can this be used as OTG for AtGames ALU using the controls on the machine?
Absolutely! I may make a short video on how to set it up, but connecting over OTG on the ALU works well.
That would be Phenomenal! Thank you for all that you do.
@@WagnersTechTalk
Sorry, not meaning to spam you. But, I documented how the buttons were mapped between Recalbox and the ALU here: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi5/#Recalbox_with_Legends_Ultimate_Arcade . I may post a video in that same location at some point, but these were the steps I took.
I cant seem to be able to add Playstation 1 to recalbox on pi 5.. is it not supported? had to add the psx folder to bios, added bios' to that folder but still says theres no bios available when booting recalbox.. even after restarting..
Could this be used for modded arcade 1up cabinet ?
I don't see why not, as long as you have an HDMI input and map the controls should work fine. I only have the SW Arcade1UP, but others have likely used recalbox for that.
pretty cool but there needs to be an option to get rid of the boarders
What are boardes? New to emulation/ recalbox so im not familiar with lingo thanks in advance
There is. You just change the resolution
I want to add more emulators. How do I do that?
You may want to post your specific emulator question on their Discord or forums here: forum.recalbox.com
My recalbox network directories have 0 bytes free size :(
Are you using a microSD card, if so what size is it? Have you tried copying files and if so, what happens?
@@WagnersTechTalk just fixed it. It was SD card. Too small SD card (4 GB).
@@tiua2153 oh yeah, too small. Glad you got it running!
How do you get rid of the borders?
Turn off recall box overlays in game settings
So Recalbox is the old Emulatiostation? How you can add overlays or shaders or core options to run the game in 1080p and other options?
Most of the retro gaming distributions (recalbox, batocera & RetroPie) all use Emulation Station. There are several core options and you can change the resolution if needed.
gamecube and ps2 support?
All the supported systems can be found here: www.recalbox.com/database/
did you get gamecube working?
@@euckb No i dont try it.
@@butchcooldidgefair enough. i couldnt get it to work. i got playstation 1 and nintendo 64 working though. raspberry pi 5. just dont do the update. install from "pi imager" to SD card. dont do update. breaks everything.
wait is gigastone not a fake brand?
Nope, I've been using them for several years. Haven't had an issue with any of them.
Do not use Windows 10 to flash. It will not work.
I've used Win10 to flash as well as 11, interesting that you had an issue with Win10.
@@WagnersTechTalk I apologize. It was the 4 model b that i couldn't get to boot after 10 flash, so i used penguin. Were u able to get 4 b to flash and boot with 10, out of curiosity? Mine burnt up by putting it on a running dvd burner.
