    I appreciate how Ben didn't bat an eye around the patient. If we all acted like that when our patients do something they're ashamed of and it causes a medical issue, more people would be willing to get medical help.

      This is how I always was when I worked in the field. There was something very comforting knowing patients trusted me enough to share really personal info. It stinks we’re always overworked because I always enjoyed just chit chatting and listening to patients. There’s just never enough time

      @@5Fem5Fem excuse me for being human. I was a new nurse at the time and the situation was so outrageous and outside my life experience that it tickled me. There's no amount of training that can prepare you for all unexpected situations. Older nurses handle it better because they have seen it before and aren't phased by it. I was primarily a floor nurse. By the time they get to the floor usually situations like the one I got surprised with are resolved. But yeah there was another time I got severely embarrassed by a situation while covering the break of another nurse. It was a situation I shouldn't have been in because the doctor should have just come into the hospital to assess the patient instead of making me ask questions that on the surface sounded extremely inappropriate. Questions that in another setting would have HR rolling in their graves. All because a doctor didn't want to come in and see it for himself. I am chocolate brown, but that night my face turned red with embarrassment. The patient understood and we got through it the best we could. My mother who was an older RN would have told him to come in and assess the patient himself. It wasn't a situation that could be handled over the phone with orders.

      As a curiosity, if a priest commits a sexual sin with another person, he can't give that one person absolution for that sin even if he wants to: it's not valid and it's against Canon Law. Therefore, the only way the person can get absolution is telling another priest or a bishop. This is meant both to prevent people playing with Penance, and to prevent priests from further using this to abuse (for instance, making it a "penance" or a "requirement" that the person provides the priest with sex to get an absolution).

This guy came in and was abusive to one of my staff members for his own stuff up. My staff member passed it up to me as I had always told them if someone is abusive towards them, come to see me. I went out looked him square *between* the eyebrows, said "have a good night last night?" He replied "yeah, so what?". As I arranged his file on the table I said "you might want to ..." And scratched between my eyebrows. He followed suit and after a few attempts *dislodged the crab* and went bright red, and accepted that it was his stuff up, then apologised to me. I told him it wasn't me he should be apologising to and asked if I should send the person he'd been dealing with out so he could apologise to them. He blanched, but said yes. My staff member was amazed I resolved it so quickly and was able to get him to apologise. I told them that if he even gives them trouble again to just absentmindedly scratch between their eyebrows. I didn't tell my staff but in the report to the other managers and my immediate boss I did tell them about how an obnoxious client was silenced by a crab.

    STDs/STIs shouldn't be as stigmatised as they are. It happens, and sure, ones like syphilis or AIDS are *definitely* things you should get checked out for, *even if you're abstinent* (you can be a silent carrier _from birth),_ but use protection, get tested fairly often, and don't be a dick, and it's not your fault so don't worry about it.
    Sex workers' rights are workers' rights are human rights. Banning sex work enables abusers and rapists, harms sex workers, and gives power to organised crime. Only banning _buying_ from sex workers is a better, albeit not perfect, solution.

      They advise you to do so but they don’t force you to, and they don’t tell anyone behind your back (they legally aren’t allowed to). The ONLY places they can tell are your other doctors and the CDC. The CDC does not get your info other than a patient number, the hospital you were treated at, and what strain(s) of which STD(s) you have had. This is so they can track spread to pick out any particularly virulent strains, and see if anyone has been treated multiple times in quick succession for the same thing to find any treatment-resistant strains.

    • @staciecarrel4492
      @staciecarrel4492 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@actual_doge3221 No you don't go to jail for that. The only time i've ever seen reports of someone going to jail for not informing someone of their STD was with HIV/AIDS back in the 90's when AIDS was still a death sentence. The person (if I recall correctly) was going around having sex with anyone they could, requesting no protection be used, and claiming they were clean. Basically they were deliberately spreading it and because AIDS is a deadly disease they were brought up on charges for that. But I doubt charges would stick these days, even in that scenario because with the current medications you can live a normal life with a normal life expectancy. But for any lesser disease or a curable disease, there'd be no basis for such charges at all. And anyway that would only apply in cases of partners you had after you knew you were infected, not ones you had before you knew. As far as reporting to the CDC, the patient doesn't do that, the doctor/hospital does.

    • @studioyokai
      @studioyokai ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@staciecarrel4492 hmm. Depends actually. Some states take consent very seriously, and withholding something like that, which could put your partner at risk of health complications, could easily be construed as "rape by deception" I would think, similar to telling your partner you have a condom on and then doing it unprotected instead - they aren't being fully informed of the risks of the act that YOU would be privy to, thus they can't fully consent to the act.
      I believe the guy who was intentionally spreading HIV, was charged with a form of assault in California, but I'm not sure.
      If firing a weapon recklessly can be a charge even without hurting anybody, though, then so can deliberately knowingly exposing people to a disease, trust me.
      In fact, even before HIV, callously spreading a disease.... after being told you have it and how not to spread it, then continuing to do the exact things that spread it, this does have precedent to at least let the government in some places to restrict the activities of or even involuntarily confine a person, for public safety.
      That's exactly what they had to do with the infamous "Thypoid Mary", after all, who was an asymptomatic carrier of Typhus who had been working as a cook, and who did not wash her hands between going to the bathroom and handling food for clients, including ice cream (yuck). This kept making the families she cooked for sick with the disease; it was discovered because authorities traced the infections to the only common denominator, the cook. She was told she needed to wash her hands to avoid spreading disease, but refused apparently; at one point it became so ridiculously reckless on her part that local officials prohibited her from working as a cook to prevent her from spreading it, but she ignored that and just went by a slightly different name iirc to the next client, whose household naturally got sick with Typhoid Fever, again, of course.
      In the end, since she refused to do ANYTHING that would prevent spreading it, including changing her hygiene or her job, both of which put others at risk of contracting the disease... they confined her for the remaining years of her life. She stopped spreading it. Her body was tested after she finally died, still asymptomatic for Typhoid... but Typhus was still found in her body. She really was spreading it, exactly like they thought she had been.
      That was a while ago yes, but. There's always people who don't take a disease seriously or are just uncaring of others or vicious, and act in ways that recklessly expose people even after being told not to. I can't imagine there wouldn't be SOMETHING still in place, even if the disease is "manageable" (remember: there's no actual permanent CURE for HIV, and treatments to keep it in check in the US very much cost money, a lot in some cases, and that's costs you need to worry about for the rest of your life. Without treatment, it screws up your immune system so bad you can die from the tiniest of infections. So. It's still not trivial, just not the automatic death sentence it was in the past).
      Oh, and:
      Regardless, criminal liability is separate from civil - the bar for which is much lower. So even if were not against the law from them to knowingly and recklessly put people at risk of contracting a disease, you could always file a civil suit for endangerment, or pain and suffering, or damages for the medical bills + pain and suffering + legal costs, etc. And while a civil suit is a long, arduous, initially expensive process... that is still something one or more victims could do, possibly together even.
      So you know. Don't do that yall. Even if you don't care about other people, there CAN very much be consequences, ranging from costly civil suits, to involuntarily confinement/restrictions, or outright criminal penalties. Just don't fucking do it.
