My school nurse is literally hopeless. I broke my arm when I was climbing monkey bars at school. I told her my arm hurt and she just said it was fine and that I didn’t need any ice. Then my arm started bruising and getting swollen. I went back and she gave me ice.
The ice helped a bit, but my arm soon began to hurt like hell. I went back to her office and she called my parents saying I was complaining about a bruise.
My mom came down and saw that my arm did not look good at all! She took me to the hospital and turns out I broke my wrist & forearm.
I had to get a cast and stayed home for about a week because of how bad the pain was.
I went back on a Monday and my nurse asked if my bruise was all gone. She was literally mocking me & acting like a bitch. I told her it was broken and that I was suing the school. The look on her face was priceless!
she saw your cast/sling and still mocked you? do school nurses get in trouble for malpractice bc that's what that is. she didn't help you and you had to go to class while likely in shock. i hope you really do sue, you have a case.

That nurse had it coming, half of the nurses in my town act like ice will fix everything. The only times the nurse from the middle school I graduated from only gave ice packs WHEN there were literal students that came to the Nurse Office with either a broken ankle or a broken wrist, AND it was the most popular football player of the school's team!

I am a school nurse. Yep, we give out lots of ice packs and Tylenol, salt water gargles….I also had 3 fentanyl overdoses last year, hundreds of fights, dozens (maybe hundreds) of wellness checks for suspected drug use, screening kids for hearing and vision problems, keeping track of immunization records, hundreds of sports injuries (I work at a high school), injuries like burns (welding and culinary classes), mental health crises, getting resources for low-income students for health care, food, clothing, etc., among many other things (kids with seizures, diabetes, severe allergies/anaphylaxis), caring for kids with severe intellectual disabilities (CP, autism, Down syndrome, trachs, etc., so they are able to attend school. I worked at a hospital for many years and I would say the pace of a school nurse is maybe slower, but there isn’t much “sitting around”. Hope that helps. ✌🏻

Thanks. Having raised 3 kids, I have a healthy respect for school nurses. They seem to know when to sooth and when to call parents. I trusted their assessment and was right to do so.

The school nurse bit is accurate for my experiences. Kindergarten, fell from monkey bars, broken bone in lower leg pushing out on my skin, I was given a wet paper towel and my mom was called to pick me up. I am 64 now, but still vivid in my memory.

True story...my school nurse didnt want to "deal with me faking being sick to go home". She yelled at me and convinced me that I was "fine" and I refused to say I was sick again. 48 hours later I woke up in a hospital bed after having an emergency appendectomy to remove my ruptured appendix. Yeah
I heard of a girl who had the same thing, same exact situation, except they thought she was faking it to get out of a final exam and her appendix ruptured in class and she ended up dying. May she RIP.

That school nurse should at the least been suspended. As RN I was 95% sure my son has appendicitis just by phone communication. Hubby took him to Peds ER. Left without appendix next day .....
I'm a school nurse. There is so much more to it than handing out ice packs. Chasing medical care plans, care team meetings, education of staff and sometimes students, ensuring classroom information and medication information is up to date, and on and on.
All my nurse does is give us wet paper towels and calls it an ice pack

After a year, I am just now seeing this video. I understand what you were going through. A few years ago, Facebook went through a phase where they randomly banned people for posting non-offensive things. I was one of them. FB’s algorithms decided that my _engagement_ announcement deserved a three day ban. My now-husband did not have the same problem. I guess FB was jealous.
I got banned for commenting because my mention of killing a spider was deemed terrorism hahah

That’s insane. Especially since your husband wasn’t banned. My brother in law reported porn. He was told it didn’t go against community standards 🤦♀️ so he appealed. He then got yelled at and threatened because there’s not enough people to check content so he’d better not appeal again. I got warned because I shared a meme about men chatting at the BBQ. FB algorithms decided it was an ad so excuses it mentioned BBQs it was considered spam.
A friend posted on Facebook about their experience using a C-PAP machine that helps you to breathe overnight if you snore and have sleep apnoea. For some very stupid reason, Facebook decided that 'C-PAP' was a hate word and my friend got a warning. They appealed and won. Really Facebook?
Glad to know other people have had outrageous instances of FB's shitty reporting system. JFC...

I'm late to the game, but I had to say: my school nurse was the BEST! She had a sense of humor, but everyone also respected her. She knew some people had migraines, so she would let them lay down and tell others to keep it down. She would call parents when needed. She provided a safe space for mental health problems. She let the girls lay down when they needed to (iykyk). She gave me the materials to take care of my new tattoo...And then she would also let kids visit and BS for a minute then send you on your way so you weren't late for class. Absouletly perfect HS nurse. Shout out to Mrs. Adamovich at PVHS!

I’m 71 yrs old and I love your vids. Keep your projects going they are some of my favorite rabbit holes.
Did 4 clinicals with school nurses. Lot of what they did was the stereotypical seeing kid saying they were sick so they could go home, calling the parent saying if they had a temp etc...sending the kid back to class or home. They also made it a point of showing all the records they keep on students with medical conditions and care plans for emergencies as well as meds they have to come in and take during the day. Big example was all the students with diabetes. They come in after lunch and get their sugar checked and get their insulin. In one day I got to learn how an insulin pump works, how to check blood sugar (was my first semester and hadn't done this in class yet) and they had just received their new shipments of epi pens. So also learned how to use that, and the nurse even gave me the trainer epi pen that comes with their orders.
The baby being dropped in the pool - this is an instructor teaching the baby to roll over and float on his back after falling into water so the baby won't drown in a real life situation.
Like wouldnt they have reported the original video OH wAIT NO because the people watching the original probaby either knew, read the title, or went to the comments
Did this for my little. It took a load off my mind (I never left him unattended near the pool, however he was a houdini and could unlock doors/patio doors, even taught himself to get a chair for the secondary latch/handle 🤦🏼♀️) but survival swim classes, he wasn't allowed to 'graduate' until he could roll over, get to the edge, and all in full pajamas, which are restrictive, and full winter clothes and jacket, which are heavy. It truly is a lifesaver! My son's teacher had 3 kids in her career that had fallen into water and survived because of it! (Even 1 makes it all worth it. )
@@jenniferl1978 so it really works? In the video here he said that blowing on their faces makes them hold their breath. What happens if they fall in without that (like in a real life situation)? I’m going to look this up. It’s blowing my mind a bit! If it really works, ALL babies should be doing this!

The little child being “tossed/dropped” in the pool is ligit part of Red Cross swim lessons curriculum…my mother was an aquatics director at a Boys& Girls Club for 30ish years and didn’t agree with that (for hopefully obvious reasons), and developed her own method (that was NOT potentially trauma-inducing, and also extremely adaptable to fit a very wide variety of different disabilities, age groups/experience levels, & other needs) that led to her program being known as the best in the region. It’s been almost 15 years since she left that job, yet people still know about her program and comment on how much that BGC’s program has gone down hill since she she left 🙃

When I was at school, the school nurse sprayed my wrist with ice spray after I'd hurt it in PE, turned out I'd shredded my ligaments and was in plaster for 3 months! Later, years later I got an apology from said nurse, she said it was one thing she really felt bad about from her time in that school.
We used to get parents bringing their teenage daughters in with abdominal pain and when asked if there was any chance they might be pregnant, parents would be adamant that no way in hell that their daughter is having sex. Surprise, surprise (for them mostly) she is.
My mom was different cause she had some medical something something at college, when I tell her I feel something similar to that of pregnance she would always say "are you pregnant?" like😶 you know i've never gone out of my room you know shy i am to people you know i cant make decent talk with other people..
@@city1776 You saying you feel like you have issues akin to pregnancy, and your mother asking if you might be is essentially a no brainer. She doesn't keep tabs on you 24/7, at least I'm assuming she doesn't. Shy people get fucked too. Unsocial people get laid on the down low too.

For the record yes my school nurse gave me ice packs all the time but here's the thing when I was little I had deterioration of cartilage in my ankle joints which increased my chances of sprained or twisted ankles. I could be walking too fast to class and my ankle would give out, the school nurse would elevate it, wrap and put an ice pack on it. So in my case ice packs were often the solution. I do remember once a bully broke my arm and the school nurse splinted as best she could until my mom could get there for the squad to take me to the hospital. So not always ice packs but 98% of the time I was in her office required actual ice packs
My school’s nurse isn’t even allowed to give ice packs any more because some kids intentionally injured themselves with them so their parents could sue.
Bc I have joint issues and occasionally need ice packs at school, I had to get an administrator MODIFY MY 504 plan to allow the nurse to give me ice. Every time I asked for ice they would have to check my 504 and it took forever. Eventually I just started using the half melted ice pack in my lunchbox.
(504 is a medical accommodation plan)

As a minor who got pregnant and honestly went to the doc with stomach pain I approve that video. My parents were "overprotective" which is actually a code word for "abusive". I had no idea how it all worked but there was a very traumatic event involved which ought to have been reported. This was many years ago, and I will now fight to the death to protect other teens from that kind of thing. NEVER assume that a teen pregnancy results from a consensual activity, or even that a teen knows how pregnancy happens.
Due to lack of proper sexual education at school in some states, and lack of open discussion at home, more and more cases like this will become reality unfortunately...
@@gk-vl3kv If you look up states with the worst sex education, and also states which has highest teen pregnancies, they line up. People learn about the basic idea of what a private part is by 5th grade there's no point sheltering them from these topics past the age of 13. This is for their safety at this point.

@@gk-vl3kv I am saying that sex education should be taught properly, because a lot of these pregnancies can be prevented if the youth is just given proper sex education and a basic lesson on consent. It is for the safety of both the boys and the girls. Boy should learn to wear a condom, and really anyone should be taught that they do not owe sex to anyone and they have every right to say no.
I heard in some schools, they separate the boys and girls into different classrooms. The girls learn about periods while the boys just sit there and watch a random movie. This is obviously not the case for most schools, but it is concerning that this is even allowed.

@@ronaldoalberto3510 Yes, I understand, and that is exactly what I ment too in my first post- the proper instructions in the right age are crucial no doubt. You are absolutely right. I have two children girl, who is now 21 already, 3rd year in university, and a boy 15 years old, born and raised in Bay area (California), and I was very impressed by the curriculum for their sex education classes. It was a whole week of instructions, and we (the parents) were able to review in advance the materials used for the class. Students attendance was also optional, and if some parents felt uncomfortable, or for some other reason didn't want their children to attend, they could opt out of the classes. It was done twice like that, once in elementary school 5th grade, and second time in middle school in 7th grade. I also think, that in areas where instructions in school are not permitted, maybe the family GP or pediatricians during annual well checks may provide some information and guidance as well, although I am not sure if they are allowed here. In any case open, honest conversations at home are most important. Our children deserve accurate information and medically based facts, and not the word of the month, on the street. Sorry if my spelling and wording is a bit off, English is my second language, as i am a "transplant" from Europe.
I ran across your shorts totally by accident. I fell in love with them immediately. You where saying the quiet part out loud. I laughed to hard everyone in the break room was looking at me.
Also my daughter at fifteen was having some menstrual regulation problems. So I took her to the women’s clinic. Of course one of the first questions they asked was if she might be pregnant. She said no I’ve never had sex. They, of course, said we would like to be sure and do a pregnancy test. This obviously set her off into an angry rant. The nurse came out and said she was hitting the roof and insisting I be brought to the room. I went and she was mad as hell as she was insulted they didn’t believe her. I asked to be left alone with her and then explained that they were not calling her a liar but it was their job to always make sure the woman wasn’t pregnant. That they had many young girls say they were not having sex but ended up pregnant. Then I reminded her of a classmate of hers who had given birth at age 13 and how she denied having sex. That calmed her down and the appointment went forward with no problems. Can you tell my daughter hold honesty in the highest esteem.
I totally get that, but I will say: I get Ocrevus infusions every 6 months, and have since about 2015, and it becomes slightly annoying after about age 25 or so when they STILL don't believe you can't possibly be pregnant when you tell them, and they still need to test every time.
I’m not a school nurse, but I have a pretty crazy medical story ABOUT a school nurse I could share. It starts with the nurse telling me I was faking, and it ends with me in the OR getting a splenectomy and having a liver laceration, and finding out the nurse was a PTA mom and had no medical training.

That makes a lot of sense. I think my school nurse back in the day must have been some nonqualified spawn from hell. She also thought I was faking my complaints. I had serious stomach issues back then and still do.
As an Australian this is horrific. Nurse is what's called a "protected title" in Australia. If you AREN'T qualified you can't call yourself a nurse and in any documentation you have to disclose your level of qualification - RN (3-4 year university degree with 12 months on ward experience - as a minimum, usually they have specialisation qualifications) EN (12 months training and 6 weeks on ward - again that's the minimum) and NA (nurses aid - 6-12 weeks training - often what people do so they can earning money and experience prior to training as an EN or RN).
The idea that someone unqualified can call themselves a nurse is terrifying.
I'm senior first aid trained - a week long course every 3 years - I wouldn't even think of calling myself a nurse.

I worked as a middle school nurse that was 20 minutes from the nearest rescue squad. I had a direct line into the nurses lounge of a large medical center ER. They would obtain doctors orders for Benadryl etc. in some emergencies. I was given a nebulizer for acute asthma attacks.
I feel bad about all the comments describing uncaring school nurses! Because I cared, I identified circumstances of child abuse, and neglect as well referring young teens to the free clinic for acne and dental care. I have lots of stories I could tell. I loved school nursing!
I am an ex-Respiratory Therapist who rotated through all the departments. IMHO you are performing a true public service. You’ve obviously drawn attention because you have so many followers. People have no idea the things that happen once people leave the waiting room!

I was an RD in hospitals like ya know 50 yrs. Nurses put up up with and handle everything while having to worry about torts at every turn. You don’t get enough credit.

Youre right school nurses really don't do much. They are allowed to give ice pack, Tylenol, basic wound cleaning (antiseptic and bandaids), and let you lay down on a bed in the school nurse office. School nurses can also take your temperature, store prescription medications for children provided by parents, have feminine products handy, and check for head lice after an outbreak.
Anything else must have parents authorization. Hope this helps clear things up.

Oh wow! Sounds to me like school nurses are vastly overqualified. I’m a nursing student (close to graduation) and I am currently doing more things working as a medication aide in an assisted living facility.
@@RealPumpkinJay yeah they really can’t do much without parental consent bc they’re dealing with minors. but most of my ‘school nurses’ didn’t have much medical background and were just admin with basic first aid training.
@@sirenofamphitrite4612 no school would allow painkillers for pain but a Tylenol for a headache/migraine was acceptable at my primary, middle and high school. I grew up having migraines pretty commonly like a few times per month. When over the counter medication no longer worked for me I was allowed to have my prescription pills as long as they were in the nurses office locked cupboard.
Edit: I'm sure states and other countries have different laws so some school nurses won't be allowed to hand out Tylenol if needed. You could however have your parents bring a bottle of Tylenol and it would be locked in a cupboard in the nurses office should you need it. This will always work regardless of the state you live in for usa. Im unsure if other countries are different or have the same rule.

I don't see how your banned from showing a little clip of something, but doctor Anthony Youn literally shows him cutting human flesh and removing fat, also puting a metal stick under the skin and moving it about, and tik Tok doesn't do anything about it, I don't see anything wrong with it, it's just such a shame

I loved all of your videos. 😂 Especially the spider spray one. Tiktok can be totally ridiculous. I've had them say "No Violation Found" to people telling teens & others to "end it." For the record my school nurse was great. She even understood that I had depression as a little kid. She even went as far as to make sure her replacement (she ended up getting sick and having to quit) knew about all her kids and our quirks. Nurse Debbie, you were the only reason I made it through gradeschool.

Glad you had a good nurse in school I wound up breaking my growth plate in my wrist on the jungle gym thing during school they just wrapped it up with ace bandage and sent me on my way then two doctors later bc the first one missed it had a cast on that hand due to the broken growth plate
I only had 2 school nurses. The first one was pretty clueless-I have a rare type of insomnia and told her I stayed up at night and read, calling it ‘sneak reading’ . She asked if my parents knew. I was pretty speechless. But she let me have lunch in her office, which was nice.
The second nurse (I think also a Debbie!) left the school she actually worked for to come be our nurse when our school moved

It’s not really dark but maybe my view is skewed. I was a RN in the ED for 10 years I find them so accurate. The pregnancy one every time! I had a lady adamant she wasn’t who was in active labor checking in.

@@roeliethegoat if her daughter is 42 she is 59 and until very recently antibiotics were prescribed WAY too often because they were deemed effective. Doctors stopped prescribing them so much when we learned how too much antibiotics would lead to more "antibiotics-resistant" diseases.
@@greyant7069 interesting. Maybe that's a US-thing? I'm from The Netherlands and I don't recall that happening here. We're told to take a paracetamol and suck it up basically. You're right about the dangers of resistant bacteria. Plus, antibiotics only work for bacterial infections, not viruses. That can't be a recent discovery can it?
@@roeliethegoat my daughter was like that(very sensitive) from a common cold she will get pneumonia in 2 days if she didn't get antibiotics in time. Was hospitalized 3 times and made to take asthma treatment for 3 years cause an idiot doctor said she had asthma, which i never thought she had(i have an aunt and cousin with asthma and she will get asthma attacks especially in spring which my daughter never did) and tried to fight it, but hey they r doctors so i don't know whati am talking(basically is what they said) . So after 3 years i decided to stop giving her the treatment cause i felt it did more wrong(migjt have been a bad idea if she did have it so don't try it, just look for better doctor) and after a few months and some research i went to a different doctor and said she didn't had asthma and probably when she got sick will be a asthmatic bronchitis(sorry if it's not the right term English is not my first language) and some doctors confused it with asthma Luckily now at 16 she is a lot better and hasn't needed antibiotics in like 2 years.
But it's true in some countries or some doctors give to easy antibiotics, so if you have a life changing diagnosis and you feel strongly it's wrong might be a better idea to research what doctor is recommended in that field and ask a different opinion. Sorry for the long post

I once fell in the rain at school, I was injured pretty badly, my tailbone was pretty sore and my funny bone got hit pretty much directly, and the school receptionist/nurse walked me to the sick bay and called my mom who then picked me up.
Then the Monday after, I felt incredibly nauseous, and the same receptionist/nurse helped me exist until my mom once again picked me up.
Not a single ice pack came out. She’s a pretty cool person.

I have learned a lot from your videos. Most recently, my grandmother had to go to the ER. She wanted to wait until Monday. I saw your video saying Monday’s are the busiest. We took her (obviously immediately) on Sunday. There was one other person in the ER when we got there. THANK YOU!
Only two people in the ER? That's insane. I've never seen an emergency dept. with less than 10 in the waiting room and every bed full. Interestingly, here in the UK Sundays are our busiest for both minor illness/injuries and big emergency cases - I guess it's because people are out enjoying their weekends and fall or get in accidents, and I KNOW people come in Sunday so they can call in sick to work/school. As someone who works a lot of Sundays I wish our ED was as peaceful as yours was that day!

I once wheeled a patient into the ER at MD Anderson cancer Center, using the back entrance from the main hospital. As we entered it was completely quiet and there wasn't a soul in site! I called out "hello?" We then heard the staff giggling as they said "we're at the desk." They said they hadn't had a patient ALL MORNING! I remarked about how the place was absolutely SPOTLESS and everything was so neatly organized! The head nurse said "we have all done everything possible to "work" and when there was nothing left to do, we decided to play cards." I seriously thought that they had relocated the ER to a larger space and that I had just missed the memo! 😂

Hey Steve, I live in South Africa and believe me our hospitals here are run by really stressed out people. My son in law is a qualified doctor doing rotations in Johannesburg. He often tells me the weirdest stories.

My kids' school nurse is always accusing the kids of faking. They can be throwing up and she's like "You're doing that on purpose!" Then she refuses to let them call home. Thank God for cell phones! My daughter gets severe migraines that occasionally land her in the ER. She is on a 504 plan because of the severity of them. My daughter was in pure agony and throwing up and that witch wouldn't let her call home. She called me on her cell and I was furious! The office staff said she does this all the time but they refuse to fire her. She even refused to let a student use his inhaler that was left in her care to use at school.

Taught my son that technique when he was 4 months old. Saved his life in a public swimming pool, when he was 3 & 1/2, after he fell into a pool wearing denim & couldn't get out by himself and before we noticed him missing. He jyst floated there waiting for us! Best tip ever.

This was 33 years ago, before Google & TH-cam 😊 but I'm sure you can find something about it on one of these platforms. Sorry I can't be more specific, but it was just a matter of repetition of blow into his mouth, dunk him under water, let him come to the surface and roll him until he was facing up... good luck.

A few years ago, I had to perform a pelvic ultrasound for "? menopause, no menses for several months". Patient refused to believe that she was pregnant and NOT in menopause, even though you could clearly see an early second trimester fetus moving and kicking around in there, you know huge flat screen monitor on the wall for her to see. She told me that I was stupid and did not know how to perform ultrasound. ( i have worked in medical imaging- in x2 countries- for well over 30 years.) The good news is the couple had been unable to conceive for their entire 25 year marriage. Bam at 49 years old, a bud in the oven.
She lodged a complaint to my superior about "hiring a foreigner that has no clue how to do ultrasound and should not be allowed to do ultrasounds in Australia"..... IDK...what my superior said to her but he did look at the images and strongly suggested that she see her GP with any other concerns. Evidently, people and Tik Tok are silly.
I didn't insult the tech... she actually was the one who convinced me I was pregnant ("that's a baby with a heartbeat right there") but also thought my missed cycles was perimenopause & that the home tests were false positives. Made the doc appt to confirm perimenopause... walked out with confirmation of a viable pregnancy... at 45... after 4 miscarriages. Still couldn't believe it... but had literally just seen it so also couldn't doubt it.
I'm sorry she did that to you. In my current job I work for the state board. The number of (sounding) yt people calling in to "make sure" someone with an ethnic name is *really* a doc/ tech/ legally licensed to practice is both offensive & sad. Even had people question if we (the state board) had really verified their credentials. No mfker we just have a vending machine in the back... pay is the fee we'll print up a license for anybody. As if!

😂. School nurse here. Laughed my butt off on the ice pack vid! I must assure you that my role is WAY more complex than sitting and handing out ice packs. Won’t list EVERYTHING I do but I triage all day long, know all the medication I dispense better than most pharmacists, know asthma and diabetes better than anyone AND give hugs and cuddles to extremely stressed children due to life stresses.

The reason why school Nurses give us ice packs is because they literally can’t give you anything else. Even like Tylenol they’re not allowed to give. They’re mostly there for kids who have medication they need to take during the day.
All they can do to a regular kid is call the parent or give you ice…
I used to get Tylenol from school nurses all the time.
Maybe it’s a newer or Florida thing but yes nurses were never allowed to give any kind of medication unless your parent filed a ton of paperwork just to have a bottle in there only for you. (Even then you might need a doctors permission)
In high school I needed to bring pain meds for cramps myself in my backpack, and I don’t think that was even allowed so we usually tried to take them discretely.
@Rachel Hill where I live it is against the rules for school nurses give out pain meds if we hadn’t already brought it in with a doctors note saying we could have it.
We as students are allowed to bring in our own pain meds as long as its enough for a single dose. Not bottles ect.
Parents where also allowed to bring you something if you called.

We could bring bottles of medicine with our name written on it and a note from our parents that could be kept in the nurses office and picked up the last day of school.
Occasionally as older students they weren’t as strict. My color guard coach in high school gave us medicine if she had it and would let us leave stuff with her. As long as no one told she didn’t care. We were like her kids because she saw us everyday, including most weekends. None of our parents cared either, so that had a lot to do with it.

Hello! I was a school nurse for over 9 years and I can say that the stereotype you did is sadly true. Like all nurses in USA, we are not allowed to give children any medication unless there are doctors' orders including OC meds. So if your child showed up with a headache or an injured knee we can only give them an ice pack (sounds stupid, I know). But I did administer insulin injections, breathing treating, and Rx meds as well. As long as I had a the proper paper work.
No doubt you are also on hand in case of a true emergency. You would be able to identify it and call for help.
Thankfully a majority of the things that come into your office are just needing an ice pack.
Don't you find some of the restrictions absolutely ridiculous? I recently spoke with the counselor assigned to my ms kid. She has horrific menstrual cycles, like I want to curl up on a cold floor and die type pain. I was told she may not carry her own Midol.
Yes for Midol I would need a DOCTOR to write a note for the school, and my child would need to ask to be excused missing class, to go get a dang midol pill for her symptoms. 🙄
I had exercise induced asthma, juvenile fibromylgia, and CRPS, they wanted me to walk across the other half of the school for one puff of my inhaler go back to gym class and if I needed "later come back for the second puff?" Yeah no, walking already hurts, I just hid my extra inhaler in my gym locker, F that. I was a good kid too, very obedient in every other case, and most school nurses were wonderful, especially after changing schools, but this case was dumb and illogical to me, especially since the school was so big, I had struggled enough trying to traverse it, not recommending this, but some children can be very independent and responsible when taking care of their health, but then again I could be an anomaly case since I was always a sick person
@@df-nk6gd I’m sorry that this happened to your child, but these rules are in place because for the safety of all children. Here are the reasons: 1) the midol can be mistaken for other illegal drugs then the police would have to be notified, parents called and other consequences blah blah blah. 2) they can give it to another child (with good tensions) who may be taking other medications in which they can interact with the caffeine or acetaminophen in Midol. That child’s parents can sue the school and/or you.
With that said, I hope that your kid was able to get the proper medical attention. Painful periods are a problem and should be looked into. If a doctor says its “normal”, seek another opinion. Painful periods can be a sign of endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, or fibroids. As a parent, you are the best Advocate they got. Good luck.
@@andreas_aesthetic I too have asthma, but not exercise induced. I’m not sure what medications you where taking to control your symptoms but I was given albuterol. The reason that the inhaler had to stay at the nurses office was because I only took it during lunch time. Since albuterol needs to be taken carefully ( it can cause bronchospasm if taken too frequently) and I was just a dumb teenager that didn’t pay attention to the times I was using it, this was the best choice.
As someone who works in health services, I find your videos soothing after having to put up with shenanigans all day. They give me humour to move pass the parts that weigh me down, and give me an additional resilience to go on with my job. Those bans affirm that I want to see more of your videos. Just how easily people get offended?

Always being prepared for emergencies such as low BS and (lucky me… athletic injuries including fractures of all kinds) In addition to being there for students, we’re there for staff and sometimes parents. Any sign of blood or health related emergencies… they call for the nurse.
My grandson fell off some equipment in the schoolyard, straight onto his face and broke his nose 👃
No school nurse (he was 8) so it was the headteacher, his class teacher and the school counsellor who looked after him until he was picked up. Not even any ice packs, so he literally sat with wet paper towels til he was taken to hospital

@Matthew LEACH I can tell you are not American. In the U.S., school nursing is a specialty, like critical care, med-surg, public health, etc. They are very well educated and trained. They may be restricted in their scope of practice due to various liability clauses in specific districts. What you’re describing cannot be called a school nurse, since “nurse” assumes a specific set of skills and education and testing.
I am a retired physician and I love your videos. So many fascinating stories start like so many of your posts. I remember taking care of a young Navajo woman who sat in the ER having periodic severe abdominal pain for several hours ( ... wait for it ....) and was found to be in labor with a (about) 35 week baby. Her mother would not speak to her until we got in her face and said, "she needs you right now". Also, (unrelated) I have seen longer videos about classes for women and their babies where they gradually introduce the babies to deep water and teach them to hold their breath, get to the surface, and turn over (they are very bouyant). It is supposed to be a great skill for preventing drowning in little ones.
I used to teach those classes. You blow into their faces to elicit an automatic response to draw in and hold their breath, then you put them (gently) under water and let go. They won't breathe the water in. They turn themselves onto their backs naturally, but by doing this you train them NOT to breathe if they fall into the water, and to turn themselves onto their backs. Later lessons they learn how to maneuver to the pool edge and grab on and take their heads out of the water. It's amazing what a six-month-old can do.

When he started kindergarten I had a meeting with the staff as his BG needed to be checked before he ate lunch. The school nurse said, "I've never had a student who couldn't test their own blood glucose." I loudly told her, "He's 5 years old! He can't test, log the number, calculate the carbs he eats and figure out the amount of insulin he needs!"

I'm a nurse and would be happy to see that we are scheduled for the same shift. TikTok needs to see what medical workers are like. I've also been a school nurse. Granted there are many ice packs given out, but I did a lot of other things. You are strictly limited as to what you can do and admin wants those kids back in class. The little ones love their blue gel ice packs.. a lot of them are returned chewed.

In many school districts they only have one nurse for the whole district. I worked with a former school nurse left due to burnout. She also grew weary of rules which jeopardized students who needed epi pens that they couldn’t access without a nurse to release to the student. A student actually died because he couldn’t access his epi pen.

The school nurse at my school saved my life. She recognized I had blood poisoning from a wasp sting I had gotten the day before at home. The second she saw the red line going up my arm and the nasty swelling on my hand, she took my vitals and called my parents who immediately took me to the hospital. That could've been so much worse since the line had traveled fast in the time I was at school and started feeling bad around lunch time.
The Er said that often times the wasps land on trash and nasty stuff during the warm months. That's what they thought led to this

@@mentalpopcorn2304 not saying non medical can’t get the joke at all, just meant that there is a certain type of humour that is quite prevalent amongst medical people (though clearly not exclusive) and sometimes non medical people think it’s being flippant or disrespectful because it’s often a dark humour. Not meant in a condescending way at all, apologies if it came across that way

The "shocked pregnancy" thing happened to me and the reason I was so surprised is because I'd been married for a decade and NEVER used birth control so I thought I couldn't have children. I was wrong...thankfully!

Haha! That sorta happened to me. We had been trying and it wasn't happening and I had the paperwork in my purse to schedule a test that needed to be done precisely 8 days after starting your period, so I was supposed to call on Day 1 and schedule the test. I was feeling sick, went to the doctor, when is your last period, late, but it is always late and I've been trying for 2 years and every time I think I am late enough to be pregnant the test was negative......Pee in a cup, of course, they have to rule it out.....doctor comes back in, well, you are pregnant....I actually said, "No I'm not." Then my second child was a big surprise because I was on birth control, my daughter was only 18 months when I found out I was 4 1/2 months pregnant!!!

I got banned from posting months ago. As far as I can tell, most of my very benign videos are still there, but I can't do anything with my account. It happened when I was taking a break and there didn't seem to be anything I could do at that point to appeal or find out why. So, instead of bothering to try making a new account I just deleted TikTok. I was so happy to see creators like you, whose content I really enjoy, showing up on other platforms. For all the good and enjoyable things, there seem to be more abuses, toxic crap, and ridiculous bans on the platform. What a pain this must be for you.
