    I agree whole heartedly. I've shot many of my favorite photos on my NEX-7. It's APS-C, 24.3mp, and a great compact size, and naturally can take all sorts of adapted lenses.

    can't agree more,I still use my old @5100, a Ricoh GXR and others, mostly with vintage lenses and they do the job 90% of the time

    I shot street on a 5Dc for at least 16 years, and I still do, with a 50mm 0.95 and a sigma art 24 1.4… the images look absolutely beautiful even by todays standards. I own a Hasselblad X1D and a H2D-39 and I don‘t have any plans to replace my 5Dc for street.

    The Nex 5R got me into photography. I got for 100 bucks in june 2022 for my trip to Croatia. I loved the process of it i bought an Olympus E-m10.iii right after i got home and although i had a small missteps with a Canon 80d,im back in M43 ecosystem woth the gx8 (which has a similar form factor to the Nex, albeit a bit larger and better balanced).

      I just bought a Pen E-P5... it's amazing what this camera packs for the price. IBIS, touch screen, solid wifi connection, huge array of rather in expensive lenses... I have an A7S that I shoot vintages lenses on, but I've been thoroughly impressed with what the M43 setup can do for a cheap and somewhat pocketable way.

    Bought an a5100 before summer as an EDC cam and the person who sold it to me said that they went on a holiday and thought that this camera would shoot better than an iPhone and in the end they had a very sad surprise. "Once you edit them and export jpegs" is the key here for many people who are interested in taking photos. Also, for people who are not interested in "changing the way they shoot", anything above a smartphone is a useless purchase. However, once you get to enjoy editing photos as much as you shoot them, any camera with an APS-C sensor is the best starting point, and anything above an average full-frame camera brings either quality-of-life improvements or just diminishing returns for hobbyists. Lastly, for street photography or general purpose EDC camera, I think Canon EF-M 22mm f/2 is a really really hard to beat lens. I wish Sony had the exact same lens, not just a close competitor. I would buy it instantly.

      True Sony is missing that lens, however a samyang 24mm gives a 36mm equivalent and remains small and affordable

    Not having any professional pressures, I'm still happy with my EM5 I. Just a super little camera, even at 11 years of age. And if I upgrade, it will just be to the EM1 II. I figure if any of my images need special help, the new apps and AI will get them where they need to go.

    • @yumenolala
      @yumenolala 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I bought an EM5ii when my EM5 started to go faulty. The reason was I could reuse the same battery, same remote shutter release, the HLD-6P (after buying the HLD-8G grip).
      I was happy with the EM5 but using the EM5ii with the Live composite, Focus stacking it was a nice slight upgrade.
      The EM1ii is great especially with the firmware which updated the AF and I would like to own that or the EM1iii but I don't have a need just yet.

    The Sony Nex-5 was my main "nice" camera for six years, from 2017 to 2022. It was fine (and I still have it) but I mainly bought another Nikon DX Format DSLR to replace the Sony Nex-5 as my main "nice" camera because I missed shooting with a viewfinder and also because I had some Nikon lenses that I wanted to be able to use again. (Also, the Nex-5 desperately needs a new battery, which I'll probably get soon, since the old one doesn't hold much of a charge anymore.)
    The downside of switching away from the Nex-5 to a Nikon D3300 was that the D3300 doesn't have a tiltable screen for high and low angle shots but generally I'm slightly more satisfied with the quality of the shots I'm getting from the Nikon. If I'm feeling up to carrying two cameras, I may actually bring both to one of the weekly classic car meetups this coming summer just to compare photos taken at the same time in the same conditions.

    Few weeks ago my a6000 were stolen, yep...so i took out of the closet my first ever camera - NEX5, while i'm looking for new a6... range camera. And you know what? Now i'm not quite sure that i need one😂 I do have very good garage of lenses that are left from a6000, only need to replace sony 35 1.8 that was stolen with camera, maybe with 27mm af 7artisan, and my photography skills are much better since nex5 was bought for the first time. So it gives a VERY good result that i'm very pleased with. And, damn, black nex'es were sexy))))

    my grandfather has always said, its between you and the lens to tell the camera what to do. All the camera is doing is taking notes.
    He uses a 10mp Nikon from 2008 with a 100-400mm lens and his bird photos blow my photos out of the water with a 24mp Canon camera, that's what 70 years does compared to 20.

    It's been said once. It has been said a hundred times. Doesn't make it less true: it's not the gear, it's how you use it and what you do with it. And that goes for pretty much anything not just cameras.
    Another one like that: the better YOU are the more you can do with gear of so called inferior quality. Knowledge (and by extension, experience) IS power.
    It takes so extremely niche situations and specific applications to fully exhaust the capabilities of camera's from even 10+ years ago that a "normal" shooter will hardly ever encounter real limitations in day to day use. There might be pecularities of one device over another that rub you the wrong way, but that's not to say the device is bad or useless.
    Another area where that is true: phones and computers. People keep chasing after the newest and latest and greatest when a more middle class or older device is doing almost 95 % (and often more) of the same things for a MUCH lower price.
    It boils down to the power of marketing. Giving you the feeling that you can achieve more with the new thing. Or that you don't count and are somehow inferior to others if you don't have the newest. Social Media like TH-cam also contributing in a huge part to this. So it's nice to see George calling it out like it is! Not that I am complaining i.e. everyone chasing after the latest Sony A7 means that there is some REALLY nice Nikon and Canon gear available for bargain prices.
    FYI: Look up the "Story of Stuff" here on TH-cam.

    My gf just sold her a6100 for a nex 5T. Also that new ttaetisan lens looks good but it looks slightly bigger than the already amazing Sony 1.8 35mm OSS… that lens has OSS and can be picked up used from 250-300$. If that TT lens is under 150$ it would be worth picking up. Otherwise nope

    Sony NEX-5N vs. Olympus OMD Em-5, I'm just getting into street photography and I'm not that great with camera settings. (my brain just won't let me) And prefer to use a micro 4/3 more than an iPhone. Any thoughts? I have the Olympus, thinking of getting a Sony NEX. Thank you!

    This video had really sharp images with great colors.
    Recently shot with an NEX-5 and it's kit lens and in continuous AF it seemed like it was trying to focus every second while single AF worked like a charm, is that normal?

    • @GeorgeHolden
      @GeorgeHolden  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I found that as well and have almost always used AF S, sometimes you miss a moment but you can get a few single AF shots in a row rather than wasting a moment if continuous is too busy hunting 😅

    50mm via APS-C (x1.52 cropfactor) doesn't make *that* much sense - because it behaves from FoV like a portrait, lens..like a ~76mm lens into 36x24mm Sensor ("FF") terms...FYI, i do own the new 35/1.8 AF TTA lens, and also NEX-5, NEX-6, A3000, A7, R1...and many more....my 1st Sony digital was some 3.5" floppy disc based (not kidding) Mavica Series....shooting 35mm since the 80's.

    Hold on a sec. The title says "these $100 cameras will change the way you shoot"; while your video is about how the camera is practically about as good as anything you can get at any price in key regards, which... fair. But... how will it "change the way you shoot" though?

    • @GeorgeHolden
      @GeorgeHolden  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      The idea was that you'll choose better lenses over new cameras and focus on the photos over the camera itself - will say I removed parts of the video that were a bit rambling that maybe would have made the title work better on the final video
