4:39 Those consoles all had a multitude of reasons for not selling as much as their predecessors. Boiling it down to their names feels like a bit of a simplification.
My mom actively thought that the next DS would be the 4DS and many people thought the Wii U was just a gamepad for the Wii
I really don't see how calling it the 'Nintendo Switch 2' would cause it to underperform. In my eyes, 'Switch 2' conveys to customers that it's like the system they already own but essentially the next generation of it or a newer and more powerful version of it. Apple and Sony do the same thing with the iPhone and PlayStation; they're new versions of the same thing, plus each new version is a hardware upgrade of a previous version. They can really call it anything as long as they don't do a repeat of the Wii U and make things confusing for customers, but to me, a number can convey a lot more in a tech product than you think, and there's no reason it can't convey a hardware upgrade.
It doesn’t matter that’s a terrible name, and Nintendo would be the last company to ever slap a 2 on top of a console.

@@madnessarcade7447 You neglected to mention the fact that Sony also came up with the names PocketStation, PSP Go, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation Move and PlayStation Portal for some their handhelds and accessories. To say that Sony isn't creative is a little misleading despite their main home consoles only having numbers at the end of their names. Nintendo could very well add a synonym at the end of "Nintendo Switch" to differentiate it from the og system much like how Sony does it to differentiates their handhelds and accessories from their home consoles, but assuming the Switch 2 is the next mainline Switch console and not a one-off like a portable-only one, an all-digital one, one with an entirely unique gimmick, etc., I would be more than happy with the name "Nintendo Switch 2". I just hope they don't go with "Nintendo Switch Attach" lol

The Nintendo Switch 2 is called the “Nintendo Focus”.
What about Nintendo Attach Switch. The major selling point are extra accessories to attach into, like a screen, VR head-strap, a camera. These can also be wireless used when docked, which goes hand in hand with the hybrid concept to allow even more possibilities. Customer can choose one of the accessories with the console and buy more if they want.

Nintendo describes it as a next model, its gonna be called the Switch Pro Model.

I just wish people understood that the "switch 2" isn't coming out until sales dip below the competition, so long at they are the top sellers they have zero incentive to dust off the completed switch successor, it doesn't matter how much we moan about the graphics if our wallets say otherwise

Okay, so friend of mine, who I’ll call Kibble, said names don’t matter. He said the entire Wii U confusion came from lack of games. He said something along the lines of, “it could be named turdmaster and it would get all sorts of popularity if it has good games,” and “it could have the best name ever but that wouldn’t matter if it doesn’t have games…”
Now, look, I understand games are a major thing, but do realize if the moniker sticks, all hells gon break loose. But, at least people won’t think it’s an add-on if it has 2 at the end… but please, don’t let the moniker stick!
I once had an idea of a Nintendo successor console using magnets to connect controllers and screens together in many ways

I think it is most likely to be named the super nintendo switch (SNS sounds cool and nice callback to SNES )
but if it is super nintendo switch, the code name would probably be SNX, but it isn't.
it can also be called new nintendo switch but i just find that name kinda dumb (even tho they did that 3 times already).
also the name could be something completly different like a random cool name, and the code names often doesn't match the console (why tf is gamecube a dolphin).

I agree that the name is going to be very important. My concern is that I just read through all 121 comments on this video, and not a single name idea seems great. Nintendo will likely call it Switch 2 just because it's near-impossible to come up with a great name. A lot of catchy and powerful words are taken by other products already.

Nintendo Flipswitch.
An nintendo switch with 2 flippable screens on its back which magnetize to the Joy Cons, Turning them into an Device similar to an 3DS with data carried from your Switch. An Joy Flipper. It's Detachable (Together with the Con) and you can bring it with you in your pocket with less worrying that it would fall to the ground.
The docked screen would act like more of a Wi-fi Router than anything, you could use a passcode to temporarily cut the connection from your Dock, and start connection with another! Simplifying local multiplayer.
It could even magnetize to the screens of other Joy Flippers! Just gently Bump the screens into each other and BOOM! It's Connected.
Co-op has never been easier.

This line of thinking, about being clever or nostalgic with naming conventions, has killed Nintendo in the past. I suspect it also hurts Xbox sales as well.
Switch is as good a name as PlayStation, Galaxy or iPhone. In modern society, the easiest way to convey to EVERYBODY, not just those invested in gaming, tech or whatever, is the numeric name. PlayStation 6? Literally the whole planet knows it’s a next gen console. iPhone 16? Definitely the latest phone.
Wii U? Oh, is that a Wii with a new controller? Sure looks like the Wii on the box. I don’t need that. New 3DS? Looks like the same thing, I already have one. Super Switch? Looks like the Switch to me, I already have that, must be just like the OLED or something. Switch 2? Oh wow! A brand new console? I want that!
Just because you follow gaming, or have wet dreams about “Super Switch” tickling your nostalgia, doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. It won’t do anything except hurt sales, especially for parents and grandparents buying for kids who don’t understand the reference.
“Dad! Can I get a Super Switch?” What’s that? Like a Switch pro? You don’t need that, the Switch is good enough. “Dad, can I get a Switch 2?” Oh, a completely different console? Ok sure.

Because after 3DS Nintendo haven't used numbers on their consoles names like Wii, Wii U and Switch so that's why the Nintendo Switch 2 is a terrible name and more better names could be the New Nintendo Switch XL, the Nintendo Switch U or the Super Nintendo Switch, it's not gonna be the Nintendo Switch Pro because Nintendo don't want to imitade PS4 Pro so I believe the Super Nintendo Switch will be the Next Nintendo Switch's awesome name, can't wait i'm so excited for the New Nintendo Switch Console here we Go WAHOO! 🎉😮😊❤
