The antenna on the hydrant is a snow flag. It allows plow drivers to see it and not hit it, or bury it. And it allows firefighters to locate the hydrant.

Worked in Chicago several years ago and I would often drive by the Disney home and envision Roy and Walt playing in the yard.....now I live 10 minutes from Disney World.....Amazing how much our lives have been impacted by the Disney family.....

I think the antenna is on the hydrant for when the snow piles up. Yes the snow gets that deep.

Thank you Adam. Family Matters was a great show from the 90’s. I met Rosetta LaNoire when I was teenager. Her car broke down and she was waiting inside the Video Store for her son to pick her up. Us neighborhood teenagers couldn’t believe that we were meeting “Mamma” from “Give me a break”! Such simpler times in 1985. One I cherish and will never forget. Thank you Rosetta. ♥️

A statue commemorating comedian Bob Newhart’s role as Dr. Robert Hartley on “The Bob Newhart Show” including a photo op psychologist couch is in downtown Chicago near the office building shown in the TV classic’s opening credits. I think it's located real close to Navy Pier.
“Hi Bob!” was a frequent greeting on the show, which was set in Chicago and ran on CBS from 1972 to 1978. Hartley was a successful psychologist living in a high-rise apartment with his wife, Emily, played by Suzanne Pleshette.
Bob Newhart was born and raised on the edge of Chicago in a suburb called Oak Park.

Fun Fact: " did I do that " was not in the original script, the guy playing urkel decided that the character needed a catchphrase, so when he went to the executive producers and director with the idea, they loved it so much that the famous phrase "did I do that " was born all thanks to jaleel white aka Steve urkel.

My friend Joe lived in the family matters house. We went to Prescott school right there on Ashland Ave. I lived in Lil street hostage house. If you Google it you get info on it. It is the next block over from Wrightwood! My wife grew up in a famous house right east of there on the 1220 w Wrightwood! There's a book about the house and the family. I lived in the area till 2014. My parent's still live right west of Ashland on Paulina street. It was cool we sat in the park as they were filming and then it was cool to hangout in the house afterwards! I'm 48 years old now.

Several years ago while the Disney Birthplace was just starting the restoration I interviewed one of the people who was overseeing a lot of the fundraising, he was also (and still is) the guy who runs Micechat (Dusty Sage). He gave me a nice framed illustration of the home. It has been used over the years as a children’s creative center, which is certainly appropriate!

If you have time, the house where the original Little Orphan Annie was written (the cartoon strip) is in downtown Lombard, about 20 miles west of Chicago. The town also has an original Dairy Queen sign in front of a small Dairy Queen (walk up only), that is land-marked in downtown as well.

I did not realize that Walt Disney grew up in Chicago, but it is definitely a city with a lot of creativity. L Frank Baum's hometown of Chittenango, New York, also has a "yellow brick road" throughout the town in Upstate NY, not too far from Binghamton, New York, where Twilight Zone creator Rod Sterling grew up.

Had to do a bit of googling during your vlog, as to why that Niles tower was a replica of Pisa, unless I've read wrong it was to conceal a water tower, i thought Walt and Roy's home in my head would have more security, to stop Disney nuts from trying to get in to his old home, wouldn't mind having a nosey around the house myself, let's be honest got to be one of the most famous people in the world, speaking for myself, have some fantastic memories from both parks, that i treasure, loving these guided tours Thankyou Adam

Although I have very strong family ties there, I just took my first trip to Chicago last year. A highlight was visiting the Disney home. Considering the connection with L. Frank Baum, there must be something in the air there. Several miles away, near the Biograph Theater, I visited the apartment house my grandfather built and where my mom grew up. It surprised me how whimsical it is, with a colorful inscription attached to the building that reads, "DAS HAUS IST MEIN UND DOCH NICHT MEIN DER NACH MIR KOMT IST AUCH NICHT SEIN." My mom recited that many times when I was a child. I did a little research on the gym nearby where my mom performed gymnastics. The gym was part of a 19th century philosophical movement that promoted the election of Abraham Lincoln. I noticed a very high number of references to Lincoln in that specific area. After I put all this together, it does not seem surprising that the creator of "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" was born nearby.

The original tower of piza was recently restored because the leaning tower would actually fall if left as it was !
    The restoration is now completed.

"It's a rare condition this day and age. When you read any good news on the newspaper page." We're losing as many houses as comedians. Dang it.

Very cool to see you are in Chicago! I'm in the city, not too far from Niles, and didn't know about the Disney house, Wizard of Oz spot, or the Family Matters home! 👍

Yes it’s so the plows know where the hydrants are so they don’t hit them with the plows. Also if there is a fire in the winter the firemen know where the hydrants are in deep snow. We also have those antennas on the hydrants in New Jersey. 👍

Do the Chicago suburb of Lincolnwood at Christmastime. It's a competition to see who can put up the most elaborate lights and decorations.

Did you ever see "The Dreamer of Oz" where our favorite comedic actor John Ritter played L. Frank Baum? I just remember the scene where he looked at the library card drawer and saw "O-Z" and supposedly that's how he came up with the name.

Very exciting to see the Disney home. Love it ! I am sure it is known and probably already been mentioned, but just in case...those paving bricks with the names on them are for those who have donated towards the preservation
