  • Once again the crew of No.99 1747-7 were kind enough to allow me to place a Camera on their Locomotive.
    In this video we return towards Radebeul as far as Weißes Roß, where our trip was cut short by a road traffic accident just one stop short of our destination.
    The Radebeul-Radeburg railway, one of Germany’s oldest narrow gauge railways is a 750 mm (2 ft 5+1⁄2 in) narrow gauge, steam operated railway on the outskirts of Dresden, Germany, also known as the Lößnitzgrundbahn (Lössnitz Valley Railway) and locally nicknamed the Lößnitzdackel (Lößnitz Dachshund),.
    Primarily a tourist attraction, the line maintains a year-round timetable between its main base at Radebeul East station adjacent to the Deutsche Bahn station on the main line between Dresden and Meissen. Scheduled traffic on the Radebeul to Radeburg line is maintained by Sächsische Dampfeisenbahngesellschaft mbH using steam locomotives built in the 1950s.
    Older trains, using engines and carriages built in the late 19th and early 20th century, are maintained and operated by the non-profit Traditionsbahn Radebeul. Heritage trains can be seen in action on special event days.
    Our train steams on towards Radeburg, crossing Dippelsdorf Lake on a causeway to reach Moritzburg, famous for its Baroque castle, Schloss Moritzburg. After a short stop at Moritzburg, we set off again passing next to Bärnsdorf Lake divided by a dam into the Upper and Lower ponds complete with a Lighthouse. After a brief stop at Bärnsdorf our train picks up speed, passing a series of picturesque villages as it traverses relatively flat farm land to reach the end of the line at Radeburg.

    Must be 15 years ago when i last travelled the line, the big shed at the end used to contain the Bavarian Mallets as they were still erecting the museum building at Radebeul. The funniest thing i ever sore was on arrival at Radebeul was an old boy in his motorised buggy chasing the train along that bit of road next to the track! Thanks for sharing.

      Having visited some of the narrow gauge lines around Dresden, I now realize I've only just scratched the surface, there is clearly a lot more to be seen, making a second visit very likely. Thanks for sharing your memories. Cheers. Tim.

      Hello Robert, I still have five more awesome railways to share from this tour of East Germany. My next tour is in May to Hungary, the Czech Republic and Austria, after that I'm not sure, could be Switzerland again for a unique tour with steam out of Interlaken or maybe a one off tour to the Czech Republic and Poland. It's nice to have Covid out of the way, to get travelling again 🙂.

      "Begeistert" does not fit as it means "highly impressed" in German. You rather mean "verhext" (bedevilled) or the ghosty phrase "An diesem Bahnhof spukt es." (This station is haunted.). ;-)

      @neilforbes416 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@coswiger I took the word *"Geist"* which is German for "Ghost" and figured the word "Begeistert" would mean "haunted".

      @@neilforbes416 Yeah, I imagined that. But "begeistern" comes from the meaning "sprit" of "Geist", not "ghost". So it's kinda the opposite. ;-)

In most of the "Driver's Eye" steam videos the camera and microphone are placed at either the front or the back of the loco, depending on which way it is facing.
