- A game that people rarely talk about. A game considered to be childhood by many. It's also a game that has been greatly expanded from the predecessor, Driver You Are The Wheelman. The question is, how much expanded is the game especially in terms of police system? Let's find out!

If you also noticed about the AI rubberbanding. Is when they "catch up" to you, right behind you, the code they use to speedboost is turned off and that sometimes they break to prevent ramming you. Even when you aren't looking at them when they rubberband, you can tell by the noise they make. Just listen to their engines. It will be a higher tone that will come up multiple times and stop when within the Player's radius area. Not to mention in Survival they are absolutley lethal and brutal, no rules for them. Just stright savages. Constant use of the Catch-up code, evasion is impossible unless you manage to confusing thier driving paths, like in Havana, they seem confused in the underground tunnels.
Better police AI then CyberPunk 2077

Now in RE:DRIVER 2 (a fan made PC port of Driver 2), fans recovered unused on-foot Felony code within the game. Hence the cops can arrest Tanner on-foot if they get close enough to Tanner. Although it only can be seen on two Vegas missions, you can exploit it anytime by exiting out of a wanted car just before you enter a police roadblock. The car's felony will be transferred to Tanner.

Love the hubcap system in this game. You lose 2 hubscaps and exit the car then they suddenly re-appear. Enter a different car and the hubcaps you lost previously also disappear from the new car :P

Yeah I think that they "randomly" chase you because you are speeding, even if only a little bit and briefly. There doesn't seem to be a buffer period taking time for them to notice, they just detect it straight away and you have no time to slow down and avoid.
You should have talked about the "Survival" mode of this game. The cops in that mode have different properties like they are heavier/have more momentum, faster and cannot be destroyed. You can even compare by going on Take a Ride mode with a full felony bar and with the Survival mode. Using the Invincibility cheat is helpful because you don't have to worry about wrecking your car. In Survival mode even with the Invincibility cheat, the cops don't seem to have problems launching your car into the air (more momentum mentioned earlier).
I'm sure I already covered about the Survival mode in brief words. :)
That was covered in the video that the cops are faster and can't be destroyed. But they are not heavier. There is a propertie code to set cars as heavy but not in Survival. The reason cops can fling you about like a rag-doll is because they hit you at high speed that causes you to lose control and flings you about, especialy when multiple police units are doing it to you. If you notice in some missions were you have to destroy a car, if you attempt to PIT them or in front of them and slow them down, you can't, because they are either 1) following a recorded/scripted driving path that was actually driven by the devs themselves in pre-production of the mission, so nothing can interupt that driving path. Or 2) They give selected vehicles a Heavy property when that NPC is scripted to roam the city randomly.

Ah great, this is one of the games that I ever played from my past childhood! Back in the days when I used to have PS1
I have to say that the cops in this game were so aggressive in terms of driving and they would do anything to stop your vehicle like ramming your car off the road, PIT maneuver, etc. Its even hard to shake em' off thanks to that Rubberband AI where the cop cars could easily catch up with you regardless of what type of vehicle that you're driving into, even I myself can't shake off those cops in the Survival mode LOL
Funnily enough, the Las Vegas (LVMPD) cop cars looks like the ones that were used by the LAPD and I know that because the door seal on the car looks exactly like the LAPD ones. I know that they reused the cop car from the Driver 1 and that's fine, also the cop NPC model at 3:03 looks kinda weird too in this game

14:52 In my playthrough, the police will respond when you stole a vehicle in front of them. I forgot which version my Driver 2 was, unfortunately.
There is a 1.0 and 1 1.1 Version and also different SC aswell as country versions. Could be that in newer releases it got added

Very nice, was one of my childhood games! I must say, it's impressive for a ps1 game, that they managed to make the police to react to so much. And a little detail: If you drive an ambulance or firetruck with turned on siren, the police won't chase if you speed past them.But for some reason, this won't work if you start with a police car after completing the game

From what I have noticed, there are rare times when a third police car will give chase, but it will normally lose you for some reason. There was also one time when I got run over and I got a game over.

Actully in beta stages of driver 2 if you still a car near a cop they will chase you!
Another cool fact is the police radio would react if you hit walls buldings
Or you could have guns like in driver one (ppl found this when they were looking for police radio dialougs)

Please do test drive unlimited or asphalt urban gt 2 next also there are unused cop voices in the game references to freeways being blocked in addition to the suspect being armed and there are unused police officer quotes for the cops at roadblocks

3:44 is so funny. Literally ding a wall, and the cop car side swiped an innocent motorist to try to ram you to death.
you forgot one more fact about the police. if you constantly honk at the police, they will give you small bit of felony, this is a "warning" felony, which means the police are giving a warning to stop honking, the small felony dosent trigger then, it just makes the player worried because the next crime you comit, that felony adds up with the warning felony.

I've had the bug on the PS1 where you can press triangle as much as you want but you wont exit or enter a functioning car, or a wrecked vehicle even with not cops around. And I was able to jack police cars but not wrecked or moving ones or the ones in road blocks. And I have had the AI respond to me jacking another car in front of them.
Question for you, as a deaf gamer how do you communicate via discord and such? Teamspeak as well, Sergeant from SASP I believe? This question might sound stupid but why not ask.

It's funny to turn on the invincibility cheat just to see how many cops ram you at once.

I think there's a texture that follows you character while on foot

Another fact, if you can trigger two police cars at the same time in a roadblock when a police car is chasing you, you can get 3 police cars chasing you. But because the game is only allowing 2 cars to chase you, one of them will have to evade and slow down until it despawns. Another one, if you honk on the pedestrians you can get felony that will not trigger a chase, but you can only to it twice. The 3rd honk will result to a chase

FUN FACT: When you finish the game, you will be able to start with the police car in Take A Ride with no felony. *HOWEVER!* If you get out and then get back in, you will then have full felony.

Survival mode in driver 2 was unbelievable. In driver 3 it was tolerable because of the better vehicle handling.

I couldn't capture a better scene but you do get a felony automatically the moment you approach a police roadblock as shown in 4:54. :)
