I woke up for a doctors appointment today. I had this song stuck in my head when I woke up and thought, “well that’s kind of a good sign”. I got some semi scary news about some stuff I’ve never dealt with before. I’ve been alright today. I had no idea they played this last night with my grandpas favorite musician Billy Strings. I can’t make this up. Thank you all
I didn’t think I’d be able to see them for even just one day, and someone graciously gave me a 2 day pass (WITH INCREDIBLE SEATS!!). I’m so f-ing grateful to have this be my first show. And now I’m seeing them again tn, I’ve never been this happy in my life. Met amazing people last night and I can’t wait to see them again tn!!! 🎉🎉
I already loved and respected Billy but to jump into the deep end and go toe to toe with Phish, in a way that shows his talent but is patient and not egotistical, is incredible.
I’m always amazed when Trey plays with other guitarists how unique his phrasing is. It’s easy to take for granted when listening to hours of phish which I do on a weekly basis. This is amazing to see Billy on stage in the free flow improv bc he’s a badass in his own right but Trey is very unique in his style, phrasing, sound and composition. It shows in times like these. And to have someone his junior so good on stage with him makes him play like he did twenty years ago. Such a great moment and thank you for filming this truly.
I saw BBKing 09 and it was awesome and being in normally shitty seats you could not tell except I could see and everytime I thought it was Trey it would be Bb and vice versa. This really beats it cause they did all BB songs.. Billy Strings crushes and I'll be glad when it happens..
@@EndangeredSoulsTrey at his peak is the greatest to ever do it imo. I mean not like on some crazy stunt shit. He can literally play it all perfect better sounding than just about everyone. He pulls so much soul from his guitar it’s crazy. Derek trucks is probably the only one I can say is better than Trey.
Thanks for marking that. That moment gave me shivers. The beauty of a Phish jam rather than just some guys soloing over a band holding it down. (not that there is anything wrong with that! Just nice to hear those surprises opening things up into unpredictable territory).
@@guy14552 I do, too! Love geeking out with everyone about just how nuts it is that these guys can do this stuff in front of thousands of people every night
You and I share a similar appreciation for these moments. Billy said it well in his post thanking the band. He was up there long enough to go swimming with the band, and I think this is an example of what he was talking about. This wasn't just your standard "take a solo, sing a couple verses" guest spot.
Born & raised & live in Michigan. been seeing Phish since 96. This. was. THEE best I've seen them play since Big Cypress. Add hometown Billy ....this was fucking unreal. Just got home. Feels like a great & bazaar dream. Thank you thank you thank you.

“Two of the greatest musical savants”? Glad you are happy for this type of thing but leave the objective statements out of it. More like idiot savants.
It's rare that Billy isn't the best guitar player on stage, and it was cool to see how much Trey was supporting him. He was on the ragged edge of improvisation with what is essentially the best backing band in the world to morph into whatever he needs instantly. Great stuff.
I would love to see Marcus King and Trey together. Marcus King is so dang good. If anyone knows of a link, send it to your boy please. This was an INCREDIBLE JAM!!! 🤙
Thank you Phish, thank you Billy, thank you Grand Rapids! These were my 29th and 30th shows over 30 years of seeing the band and they just keep getting better. Priceless memories!

dude, Strings taking them out to 14 minutes of straight ethereal magic. Trey does such a good time of complimenting and elevating Billy. I also love how patient the band is to let the collab develop and surge. AWESOME!
Reminds me of Trey and Carlos Santana, only better; Billy's a great listener, can tear it up but never overplays and seems to have similar sensibilities in his DNA. Epic collaboration.
